Exciting to be a Phillies Fan

When it comes to football, y'all certainly know I'm a Redskins fan - and I hate the Eagles, and Eagles fans.

As for other Philadelphia sports (Flyers, Phillies), I'm a fan of those teams and I root for them. The only down side is when I want to attend one of their home games, I dare not take my truck. I have a friend drive me!

Now is an exciting time to be a Phillies fan. 7 games back with 17 to play and now look at them. On the brink of the playoffs. The Mets have been stinking up the joint and, thanks to the nail in the coffin given to them by the Nationals, they are on the verge of playoff elimination.

I like the Phillies and a lot of their young players. I don't know how far they'll go into the playoffs; however, with their recent play, they certainly deserve a shot!

JH, my wife is also a Phillies fan. I suppose being born and raised right across the river has something to do with that. I'm not quite convinced my wife can tell a hockey puck from a donut so I can't state with certainty if she follows or supports the Flyers.

At least the Mets got far enough to have to be nailed into their coffin. The Orioles haven't come out of their coffin for air since the 1980's. That might explain the collective brain damage from ownership down.

As far as taking your truck to Phillies games, I've seen the pictures. You'd probably end up walking or taking public tranportation home.

Well, one more regular day. I'm hoping that both the Nats and Florida win, and that the Phillies beat the Mets in a one-game playoff...assuming that's how it still works.

(Although I wanted another "curly W"), it is amusing to see the Mets collapse, and know tha the Nats beat them in five of the last six games of the season.)

I guess it's time to face the Redskins...although I still refuse to talk about the second half of the Giants game.

Wow. What a finish for the Phillies. This team is really playing like a team of destiny right now. I think they're gonna be pretty hard to beat in the playoffs.

Then again, their pitching is somewhat suspect.

I guess we'll see.

For Mets, a Question of Talent or of Character?

While the best major league teams head for the playoffs, the Mets and their crestfallen fans are home, licking their wounds and preparing to play the favorite New York pastime: the blame game. Who did it? What for? And how is the guilty party going to pay?

Yesterday, the Mets completed one of the most stunning collapses in baseball history with an embarrassing 8-1 loss to Florida. The season-ending nightmare began almost immediately, as sugarplum dreams of a weekend revival quickly dissolved. The “Let’s Go Mets” chants that rocked the stadium 15 minutes before the game quickly gave way to cries of despair.

On Sept. 12, the Mets had a seven-game lead over Philadelphia with 17 games to play. A confident David Wright said: “You couldn’t have picked a better time to peak. This is the best baseball we’ve played all season.”

But then came the tailspin, and no amount of huffing and puffing, no amount of bravado, could pull the Mets out of it. On Saturday, they appeared to keep hope alive with a 13-0 victory. As it turned out, that victory was simply a last-gasp thank you to Mets fans for hanging in. Yesterday, there was nothing left from a team that has now humiliated itself and its fans.

Gillick said that for many years he felt that talent was everything. But he said after watching Philadelphia overcome injuries and other adversity this season and overtake the Mets, he had concluded that talent was overrated.

Talent is important, he said, but what is more important is mental toughness, character, passion and the desire to win.

“These are things that cannot be measured,” he said.

Philles vs. Rockies... thats gonna be a fun one to watch.. both teams are hott right now

Man! After going 0-2 at home, I don't think there is chance in hell the Phillies will advance now! Those Rockies are just too tough! If, by some miracle, the Phillies bring the series back home....that game #5 is gonna be a fun one to watch.

Not counting on that, however.

The worst part is the Rockies are likely to crash and burn in the next series. It's very unlikely they will continue to win at this pace.
