Joe's "Swinging Soul" bomb

Post by rick301 »

Coach Joe Is On The Warpath/Moss Doubtful

Wow, Coach Joe wanted no part of the media today (can't blame him for that) and engaged in some of testy exchanges. Made for good theatre.

Okay, Ill get back to that in a minute. First the news.

Santana did not practice and is listed as doubtful. He didn't rule himself out, but after not practicing all week and just running a few routes Gibbs did not sound like he would play. Said there is a chance Santana could take warmups Sunday and maybe sneak into the active roster, but it sounded remote.

Also, Lloyd was back to practice and Mike Sellers missed most of practice with his heel injury, largely as a precaution.

As for Coach Gibbs, he certainly had his game face on. Any reporter who has been around here more than 30 seconds learned long ago that coach Joe is never going to say much the later you get in the week and people looking for flowery quotes on Friday in particular are barking up the wrong tree.

Today he was downright ornery - and if I'm a Skins fan I'm all in favor of that. He looked like he was ready to crack a head or two if need be. It started off well enough but after 90 seconds he got worked up, his arms started pumping. The man was animated

It started when one of the guys from the Times (DLD) mentioned the 0-20 record the Lions have here in DC - something Gibbs already talked about earlier in the week - and the man started getting a lather. "It's ridiculous," Gibbs started, and then went on a rant. Segued into: "We won Super Bowls here before, right now we can't win anything." He then dropped a "swinging soul" bomb - about as close as this man will ever get to cursing. "We need to get A win someWAY, and it's going to take every swinging soul we've got." (Am I the only one who smells a Swinging Soul T-shirt here?).

Seemed like this would be a good time to let the man walk, and Coach Joe was already heading towards the locker room as he concluded this response, then my fellow Baltimoron, Jerry Coleman from Sportstalk 980 alluded to some comments that Gibbs allegedly made to George Michael during an interview about wanting to run the ball 70 percent of the time, and I turned the recorder off and just took it all in.

Coach Joe must have grunted the word balance six times in the exchange. "I have never said that my entire life! It's balance." (This reminded me of two things - a geology professor I has in Syracuse who would randomly yell out "Balance!" during his lectures to wake people up who fell asleep, and also the dude in Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me With Science" video, whose yelling "Science!" in the background.)

So, now we're ready to play some football! That's what I'm talking about. Bring on the Lions.

That's good news - Joe's getting fired up. I hope he lights a fire under the team to play a complete game - not just 2 quarters. I'm feeling better about our chances with the Lions.

... now if Joe could only get through to B. Lloyd and light a big flaming fire under his butt ...

If Portis isn't 100% and Santana isn't playing, that's bad news for the Skins. I think Gibbs is frustrated and worried. The game against the Lions should be a win but nothing's easy for the Skins these days.

Oh please stop it and take a fresh gasp of air! Come on! If this team is no more than Moss and Portis we are done. It is not only that of course. We should be able to fight a good darn battle without those two players.

Sheeesh, as angry as some have ,mede me today with so many stupid posts, I am ready to slap that reporter MYSELF. (maybe not sap but certainly throw him to the floor and break an arm with a Judo arm lock). I could eally dance with somebody right now.

Come on Joe! SHOW THEM SWINGING SOULS !!!

I haven't seen the video from today yet, but I did watch the Joe Gibbs show last sunday and he did in fact say the Redskins were a 70% run team. Not sure why it set him off today, but I'm glad to hear some emotion.

I'm glas Joe finaly let loose on these idiot reporters. I had a similar meltdown when watching Inside the NFL last weekend. Costas & King were discussing the Chargers & the Bears slow starts. I swear if I hear another person start off some half witted "analysis" with "Last year this team............" I'm am gonna flip out. I think Joe has had enough of that crap as well.

It isn't just Portis and Moss; it's also the two injuries already sustained by the offensive line. I think Gibbs is worried and has good reason to be that way. And I don't need to take a deep breath - thank you anyway.

Great to hear that "reportedly" Gibbs is getting a little testy with everyone!

On another note, did anyone else count how many grammatical errors there were in this "report" by this low life, bottom feeder.

I mean if this paper ever had any credibility you would think they could at least find someone to proof read or edit these articles before they display how stupid they are in hiring guys whose job first should be at least to get their "words" right even if they can never get their "facts" straight.

I cannot wait for Jake and the rest of the young aspiring sportswriters to be able to show these current "writers" and editors how bad they are

And after stirring the Lloyd debate he gives a few words ONLY to the fact that Lloyd was on the practice field - JLC is a waste of the air he breathes and should not be allowed to waste our time :puke:
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

it's not an "article", it's a "blog". so, it's deliberately casual.

anyways, i couldn't've been happier to see gibbs PO'd. i think that could be the best thing that has happened for this team in a long time.

Well said.

You should hear other reporters talk about him and his blog, and the complete lack of journalistic integrity involved.

If he can't 'source' a comment for an article, he blogs it and hopes that nobody will hold it against him that he is CONSTANTLY way off the mark.

While the blog may allow him a more 'casual writing style', I think his blog continually proves that without editors, JLC couldn't write his way out of a wet, paper bag... I proof my board posts more than JLC proofs his own blogs.

Not to mention that his complete lack of professionalism as it pertains to B.Lloyd is just laughable. As someone with intimate knowledge as to where it all comes from, I'll just tell you that there is no room in journalism for such petty antics - at least there shouldn't be in my opinion. His juvenile quips just make him look like an ignorant frat boy as far as I'm concerned.

I listen to people tell me constantly about how IMPARTIALITY is paramount for good journalism. I've seen nothing from JLC since he took over for Nunyo that indicates that he is capable of such.

Didn't see it from Nunyo once he was the beat writer either... so I guess JLC couldn't be towing the corporate line that the Washington Post wants him to any more than he is...

I'll also say this... before JLC took over for Nunyo, I actually liked his stuff. I guess that was because there wasn't an agenda like there is in EVERY single thing that he writes now.

But what do I know? I'm not a journalist because I prefer to stick to facts and not conjecture, hearsay and biases.

That's a lame excuse, he's a professional writer, taking a casual approach is one thing, lazy and slopping writing is inexcusable, there are hundreds of blogs that feature concise and well-structured writing.
