Hello Redskins....

Post by truelion »

Just wanted to wish you guys luck on Sunday, though I'm not sure you'll need it....The Lions don't fair to well on the road and have never won on your turf....But then again, it's been a long time since we started 3-1, and we've never scored 34 points in the fourth quarter before either...and it's been something like 3 or 4 years since we beat the Bears...So this is a new team with a new attitude and most of us fans have seen a big difference from years past....

I can honestly admit that I know nothing about your team, but here's some insight to the Lions...

They are definitly turning some heads, at least raising a few eyebrows. Our receiving corp is loaded to the hilt...but I guess you'll have that when they pick a receiver 5 times out of 6 with your first pick....Kitna seems to be getting more focused as the season progresses...Not throwing as many int's and seems to have total control of the offense. He also doesn't seem to get rattled with numerous sacks either.....Our running game is just starting to emerge, we were without Kevin Jones until last week and even then he was limited...Duckett has been rehabbing an ankle injury, and then there's butterfingers Bell...Bell has trouble holding onto the ball, and just can't seem to break free for any big gains....Not sure if Jones will see more action this week or not, but I would have to believe that we will...

We seem to have trouble with picking up screen plays....
We are pretty good at stopping the run...
If you dink and dunk 5-10 yarders you'll walk all over us....
Our Special teams have done a very good job this year as well...

Shaun Rogers on D is a beast so if you run, don't go up the middle...you'll get nowhere...

I'm not real sure how to call this game...as the 91 season keeps popping into my head....I think it will be close, I don't expect a blowout by either team....I'm going to take a stab and say...Lions 31 Skins 28

Again, good luck and let's hope for no injuries....cheers

It will be an interesting match up no matter what. While I would love a win, I want a good, close game either way!
...any given Sunday....

Hey, what's happening, truelion? Welcome.

I agree the Lions are a much improved team. That passing game has been impressive. It should be a good game and I look forward to Martz and Williams matching wits. Good luck!

WHY IN THE HELL DO YOU WANT A CLOSE GAME??? IF ANYTHING WE SHOULD ALL WANT BLOW OUTS EVERYWEEK....WE HAVEN'T HAD A BLOW OUT WIN SINCE THE 49ER'S WERE IN TOWN BACK IN 05..... PERSONALLY I DON'T EVEN THINK THE PLAYERS WANT CLOSE GAMES, AS A COMPETITOR YOU WANT TO SEND THE OPPONENT HOME CRYING AND WISHING TO NEVER PLAY YOU AGAIN....WHO AGREES?? WHO'S TIRED OF BARELY WINNING GAMES??? YEAH, A WINS A WIN NO MATTER HOW CLOSE BUT I FOR ONE AM TIRED OF HANGING ON TO THREADS EACH WEEK...I WANT THIS OFFENSE TO START SCORING AND PUTTING PRESSURE ON THE OPOSSING TEAMS OFFENSE TO KEEP UP. HOPEFULLY THAT WILL START THIS WEEK

Welcome to the site, truelion, and thanks for the inside information on the Lions. I like your analysis:

truelion wrote:They are definitly turning some heads, at least raising a few eyebrows. Your passing offense is on fire; no doubt about it. The Redskins haven't been giving up big passing plays, with Taylor roaming on those deep looks, but the Dolphins and Giants both picked us apart with mid-range passes just over our LBs. Like many of our other members here at THN, I am worried about how our one-on-one matchups between our CBs and your WRs will go — it's hard to imagine that not going in Detroit's favor.

Our running game is just starting to emerge, we were without Kevin Jones until last week and even then he was limited...

I can say that I have a great deal of confidence in our rushing defense. Our LB corps have improved greatly from last year. I think that the Lions will have to beat us through the air.

We seem to have trouble with picking up screen plays....
We are pretty good at stopping the run...
If you dink and dunk 5-10 yarders you'll walk all over us....

Well, lucky for you we have never run a consistently good screen. Campbell does like swing passes out of the backfield. Portis has yet to have a true 'breakout' game, but it wouldn't surprise me if we end up waiting another week for that.

Campbell has issues with ball placement, accuracy, and the speed of his release. He has looked good when he gets time, though. I have a feeling that we will need him to complete those 5-10+ yard passes to keep the offense moving down the field. It'll be a tough game for us.

Our Special teams have done a very good job this year as well...

Our teams have looked good as well. I am interested in this matchup because special teams often dictate field position.

Again, thanks for stopping by. I'm predicting a Redskins win, but I do that every week. . .so pay me no mind. :)

Welcome to our home truelion. Your team has turned around and it will perform well this season. I have to say that I did not expect it to do so. The handicap of having Matt Millen as your GM still weighs heavily in our minds (notwithstanding that he played a bit with us during the first tenure of Joe Gibbs and even won a Super Bowl with us).

You have some great receivers down there, some of the best. Kitna is throwing well and he plays with conviction. He is a leader. I saw him bend the Vikings (while at a lengthy stop in an airport in Ottawa) and that is a swarming defense. You can hold your chin high after so many difficult seasons and staying loyal to your team, only to be finally rewarded this year.

I am predicting a win for us because I always do. But the truth to me is that this game may very well decide for us whether the team is going to lift its game and have a decent season or ... else

Welcome to the posting. I think you guys are going to have a hard time with the noise level at FedEx. Kitna is going to have to audible during pressure schemes and it's hard to hear in a 4 wide reciever set. I predict quite a few false starts for the Lions. I think you're recievers are Dangerous with a capital D. I do expect to give up some yards and maybe a couple big plays but I doubt you'll be able to run much on the Skins defense. I think the Lions are going to have a hard time stopping Cooley and with Moss questionable for Sunday, look for the new recievers to get some time in the game. Jason Campbell has a big arm and we are going to push the ball down the field on you.

Here's the rub. If you guys can't stop Portis and Betts the Lions are in for a long day. Say what you will about Gibbs second time around he still knows how to eat up the clock.

Good luck on Sunday! You're going to need it with Landry and Taylor hawking your recievers.

Thanks for the welcome....

Before the season started, I had us at 3-2 going into our bye week, which is after we play you....with losses to Philly, and what a loss it was...good grief, and a loss to Washington....as much as I'd like to hold onto my perfect prediction so far...I wouldn't mind being 4-1 at all....I just hope someone can beat the Packers soon so we can be tied for the lead in our division....

I predicted a win in my first post, but I honestly believe that you guys are going to take it....Just a gut feeling....

We are getting better, but we still have a ways to go to be true playoff contenders...at best I see us being a wild card team, with a quick loss....

So far, most fans of the teams we've played have been clueless about the Lions offense...They kept saying that they needed to stop our running game and make us one dimensional....I told them to go ahead and stop the run, because we don't have a running game....and while you're trying to stop what doesn't exist, the ball will be sailing deep over your heads....We pass to open the run, not the other way around....Stop our passing attack and the game is yours....But with 3, 4 and even 5 receivers at times, it's going to be difficult...Not to say it's impossible, but difficult....

Well I hate to admit your team will have a good shot to win this game if your defense shows up at all. Clearly your offense can put up some numbers!

Should bea good game either way. I'm looking forward to this one. Especially after the bye! Man, I hate the bye week...

Isn't it nice when other fans stop in and we can talk about our teams like adults, unlike Aquafag in week. So welcome TL. It's nice to talk to a fan who knows not only his teams strong points, but knows the have weaknesses as well.

Oh, believe me, I am a rare fan....there are those that think we are superbowl bound and all we have to do is get by the Packers....Then there are those who no matter how we win, they find fault and say we should've lost that game, imagine that, making excuses for wining...unbelievable....Like last weeks win against the Bears...the "reason" we won, according to some, is that the Bears D was banged up and they had a new QB who will need time to come into his own....This is the NFL and injuries happen to all teams all the time, just look at the Lions the past few years, we had enough injuries to cover the whole NFC North, but that doesn't matter....

And then there is the small handful of fans, who are realistic...No, we are not so blinded to believe that we are playoff caliber, though one can always hope for an appearance, nor do we believe that we are the bottom with absolutely no improvements....

We have improved, just finishing a game and not giving up in the 4th is clear evidence that the attitude has changed and we are climbing back to being respectable and not looked past....

And yes, our defense must show up for us to have a shot at this game...

I have always liked Kitna... just enough skills, and tough as heck... He reminds me of Billy Kilmer and YA Tittle

I'll be hatting on him on Sunday, though... Bet he'd look splendid in a burgundy beret.

Brilliant contribution.

So a guy comes from another team to check out the opposition, totally conducts himself properly and respectfully, and some kid thinks that it'd be cool to show their complete lack of ability to contribute anything meaningful. Congratulations.

Truelion... I'd wish you luck but it wouldn't be genuine,I do thank you however for behaving respectfully. As you can see, it's not something you can count on from everybody...

Please except my apology on behalf of the Redskins' adult fans.

Our team played as well as we possibly could have hoped for today, actually better than any honest Redskins fan would have expected. I think the Lions have a lot of potential but it appeared from today's game that the potential is being limited by Mike Martz. Unlike the Redskins NFC East rivals, I don't find it necessary to hate on the Detroit Lions, or any true fan of the Lions. Good Luck with the remainder of the season.

I don't care what you do as long as it's within the confines of the rules.

Unfortunately we don't have any rules specifically against behaving like a spoiled brat, but I'm hoping that truelions will recognize that one bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch... no matter how much it tries.

Its called class, an opposing fan visited and conducted himself in a classy fashion. Therefore he gets greeted in the same manner, with class. There are times when folks show up and conduct themselves like idiots and should be smacked down with extreme prejudice, unfortunately this was not one of those times. Truelion I hope your team addresses those O-line issues and best of luck from here on out, thanks for stopping by, hope to see you in the playoffs!
