Brandon Lloyd situation looks worse and worse...

Post by riggofan »

Man, this bit from JLC/Redskins Insider really jumped out at me:

Also, forgot to mention this yesterday, but well afer practice Campbell and Todd Collins were working with the receivers in shorts and t-shirts, running lots of routes, working on timing. Now, Santana Moss - who very well could miss Sunday's game with a groin injury - was not taking part, obviously, and neither was one other wide receiver, for what it's worth.

Randle El, Thrash, McCardell, and Caldwell were excitedly doing the extra work. Maybe it doesn't mean anything, but the omission of the other healthy wideout did not go un-noticed around here, with hiim back in the locker room while the rest of his position group was working.

I don't want to get too worked up about this. Kind of par for the course and it does seem like LaCanfora is always down on Lloyd. It just looks really bad. Stuff like this makes me worry about that situation becoming a real distraction at some point.

It is definitely not looking good for him at this point. My only hope is that bridges haven't been burnt and that something can be worked out. I do think he could produce for us, but obviously the situation is complex and there's probably something going on in the locker room / practice fields.

Well, IF JLC isn't talking out of his backside, and IF Lloyd wasn't working with the others, and IF there wasn't a perfectly reasonable explanation for that, and IF this "situation" gets worse, then it would only be a real distraction if other players started taking sides in the issue.

IF there's an issue, and IF there are any sides to take.

Things are looking a little bleak for Brandon though, which would be a shame for him, and a shame for the team, because this is one talented individual who should be capable of having pro bowl type seasons in this offence.

Lloyd really hasn't been productive for us at all. He's been given the oppurtunity to be the go-to guy, he just doesn't take it.

I think this week may be the end for him. If Caldwell and McCardell play, and can be productive, I think the team will take the cap hit and cut him.

I don't think he has any trade value at this point, he hasn't done anything to show he's worth anything.

John Riggins was interviewing a radio guy from San Fran who was laughing at us for taking Lloyd almost as much as we are laughing at San Diego for taking Norv.

Looks bad for BL. I don't think JLC is wrong because they have gone out and signed two more WR's. So the evidence is right there. Caldwell was signed before Moss got hurt and the natural progression would have been to sign someone after BL was moved to starting alongside ARE in place of Moss just in case one of them went down. But the Caldwell signing was the first shot across the bow and now they sign McCardell. Moss has not been completely ruled out of Sunday. Now you got six WRs on the roster. What's makes it interesting is that the two new guys aren't exactly bums.

I wonder what Chris Cooley is thinking at this point ("dang, how many balls am I gonna get now with all of the WRs")???

BL made his own situation. He didn't perform when given the chance, and his attitude probably didn't help knowing how Gibbs is. Might just be a bad circumstance, but regardless, he's not working out here. Cut your losses, give him a chance with another team, and call it a day. Yes, the salary cap hit will hurt, but is it REALLY any different than what's going on now? No roster space and he's suckng up money from the bench.

I understand where your are coming from but I would ask why you think "He's been given the opportunity to be the go-to guy..."? I think most here would like to think that he get a few more opportunities in an actual game than what we have seen this year before we want to see him gone. I think he can help these guys as he has demonstrated a better ability to catch the balls that most others would not have a prayer of catching - I just want to see him drop some balls that are thrown near him and then I'll agree with you BUT this guy has not been given many opportunities so far this season.

BTW welcome to the site and enjoy the Redskins this season.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

To be fair over the past two years Moss has been the only productive WR on the roster, ARE is starting to show some promise, Thrash has his role and after them it's been a revolving door for a 4th receiver, and again it's only been 3 games and most that have come through that door never made it to the field.

Too late in the game for that, the Skins no longer have the room to take the hit this year.

Trade deadline is fast aproaching and I don't see him going anywhere this year and with the current situation it's no reason why he can't work his way back into rotation considering the current depth. As far as him not working out with the WRs and QBs AFTER practice could just be a matter of him having a prior engagment and didn't know the post-practice session was planned. It was the first practice after a week off.

Anyone who thinks Lloyd isn't a dead man walking is kidding themselves. I'd like to think that the player and the organization could both act like adults and everything could be resolved, but that's just not either party's modus operandi. It's just another sad chapter in what's becoming a long book of sour management-player relationships.

I don't think this needs to affect the rest of the team's performance, so let's just hope distractions are kept to a minimum.

He is paid (a lot) to play football. That should take precedence over other engagements. Lots of folks making a small fraction of what he is stay late at the office.

Since the article says both "extra work" and "after practice" I think you may be on to something here.

Something isn't right, I mean Cris Cooley only has five catches yet the Skins are the only team in the League that only has two wideouts with receptions. Not sure what IT is but IT's not all on Lloyd
The Skins are ranked 30th in attempts and 32nd in completions

Didn't Jason Campbell say that "it" is the passive restraints and the airbags being placed on the offensive playbook?

Here's another way to look at it. During the off-season when the players were free to do whatever they want, how many of the guys out there after practice today took time to workout with Jason?

Wow. That would make Brandon Lloyd "the Supreme Evil One". Does that mean Hailskins would be required to worship him in some way?

Does that also move his name to the category of an obsenity, which may only be uttered in Smack?

I don't know Hailskins personally but I've seen enough posts to venture that Hailskins worships no one, other than perhaps the gentlemen who invented Harley-Davidson.

All the more reason for Lloyd to be there. If you aren't getting pt and the coaches/qb don't seem to have much confidence in you then it would make sense to stay after practice to try and show them that you are committed to getting better and that you really want to play, especially when two new guys that may have been signed to take your place are out there.

I like Lloyd and think he could be a good player if he'd just get a break or two in the game. But, it's hard for me to look past a couple of plays. One, JC starting his first game last year and throwing a nice bomb to Lloyd only to have him looking around like he's lost the ball in the lights (incompletion at a crucial moment -- JC's first start and the potential to start with a big play wasted). Then, this season, having one-on-one coverage, thrown to deep in the end zone, having inside position, he basically falls down and the guy intercepts the pass. It's plays like that making him seem completely clueless. The talent is there though. Seeing some of the catches he has made shows that but some of his other plays (like the ones I mentioned) make it hard for me to trust him. Maybe he's trying too hard. I don't know but I hope he works whatever out, soon. I think we could use him.

I think a lot of what is being reported is typical BS - I also think that Lloyd is still here because the people that really matter think he will be contributing to our success this year

I'm with 1niksder on this, mainly, there is no one on this team that is doing very well with our passing game, begining with the guy calling the plays, then the guy who "reportedly" worked very hard during the off season to be both really up to speed with the playbook and also worked with all the WRs so he would be able to get the ball to anyone then on to the guys who catch the ball - well, those guys have not had a lot of passes that they could catch but I do know that we need to have a much more effective passing game and that is certainly not all B Lloyd's fault.
Actually, I think he could help both Campbell and the team if he got some chances to show what he is capable of

Obviously the passing game is struggling. Maybe that's why JC and the receivers were staying late after practice. Apparently Lloyd couldn't be bothered to stay late. You say Lloyd could help the team and JC if he got a chance but the best way for that to happen is if he puts in the time with JC. Skipping out on extra work isn't going to endear him to Gibbs or JC.
