I know some people are going to see this as some type of bias for Lloyd but I am baffled by the team's approach toward him thus far. It is stupid, from a cap standpoint, to pay a guy and NOT determine whether he has any value.

I think it's something personal. Something has been said or done and the cat is black listed. Todd Yoder has just as may if not more passes thrown his way.

It's downright disappointing. To be honest, my disappointment is in the coaches.

Could be personal or it could just be that he isn't getting it done in practice. That was a knock on him in San Fran and CP seemed to indicate that that was the case in his radio interview on the John Thompson Show.

That is true. I wouldn't be shocked if that's the case, it has to be hard to go 100% when you're QB's NEVER throw you the ball. Is it a valid excuse? No. But it's understandable.

Please share with us who available is a more appealing option? Everyone wants to complain about Lloyd dropping passes, so the Redskins are looking at someone with nearly 900 career receptions, which means he doesn't drop many passes. Not to mention the fact that the Redskins had McCardell in his prime and let him go. So, now he's 37 and isn't beating anyone down the field. Art Monk never beat anyone down the field, either. All he did was catch the ball for first downs. But who needs that type of receiver when you have Santana "I never met a hamstring I couldn't pull" Moss, Antwan "I'll catch the ball for 3 yards or 30 yards but nothing in between" Randle El, James "I haven't caught a pass all year but I play special teams" Thrash, and everyone's favorite receiver to blame for everything, Brandon Lloyd. Somehow, it must be Lloyd's fault that Ladell Betts didn't quite make it into the end zone last week.

You have the luxury of being hypercritical of every decision the Washington Redskins franchise makes or does not make. The decisions their organization makes will in no way affect you directly. I'm quite certain their front office is equally hypercritical of the decisions, although, unlike you and many others, their team is not built upon a fantasy roster. They don't have the option of pulling a bait & switch with another franchise. They have to choose from who is available right now, and who fits under their salary cap. Although it seems some would prefer the Redskins sign Koren Robinson or David Boston, either would be far from a logically sound business decision.

If you really want someone to shoot you ...

Please do not mistake Mcardell for Art Monk. I for one support Lloyd and have yet to see him get a fair share of the balls thrown his way. I will wait until seasons end to evaluate Lloyd. So far he has not had many passes thrown his way, so I dont blame Lloyd for that. He should get some more oppurtunities the rest of the way.

McCardell has two good legs.
Santana Moss appears to only have one.
If Randle El becomes the #1 receiver, then who is the #2? And the #3? If anyone thinks the passing game is bad now, how would it be with Randle El being double-teamed and Thrash and Caldwell as the other options?

frankcal20 wrote:Lloyd doesn't suck as a football player. He just sucks here. Here is what happens: Players play for a contract and perform well, we sign them for huge money and then they slack off and get embarrassed b/c they play poorly and the media tears them up. We trade them and then they go to pro bowls. See Ryan Clark, Pierce, Walt Harris, and soon to be Arch in Chicago. Just something I've noticed. The other thing could be the coaches not doing a good job tapping into these guys talents. But I guess this is what you get when you try to buy talent. I want guys who are talented and are working toward their money not the other way around.

I agree on the first point but not sure about the reasoning. I don't think Lloyd ever sucked per se but he was more of a victim of bad or mediocre QBing, that is, bad passes that he had to grab and payed the price for going after them. Seems he showed flashes of brilliance but his star died out because of nagging injuries.

Not sure why we'd replace Lloyd with Keenan McCardell whose washed up. Ironically McCardell is the probably the epitome of a Redskins' short-sighted GM move when they pulled the plug on him and let him go the expansion draft. It's ridiculous to bring him in now that he's at the end of argualby a HOF career.

I think that Clark, Pierce, and Harris were playing very well when they were on the Redskins and oh, you can add Lemar Marshall to that list who played well in DC before before leaving for Cincinnati this year. For some reason, our GM doesn't believe that backups are important or if I guy isn't flashy enough (wasn't a former high draft pick) it's not a priority to keep him. It's too bad really. Walt Harris was a pretty high pick for the Bears I believe. Always was a great talent. I thought we stole him but for some reason we left him go, probably because we insist on keep Shawn Springs and thought Carlos Rogers was going to live up to the college hype.

That's exactly what I'm saying, Chris. I just find it hard to believe that Lloyd is so bad he can't catch a single pass this season. Can't get open at least a few times during the game.

Its just weird. I don't get it.

We need somebody on the Redskins like that goalkeeper for the women's soccer team. Somebody to come out and be brutally honest about what's going on and throw a few people under the bus! :)

Perhaps it's not meant for it to kick Lloyd outta the lineup, but for one last Joe Gibbs attempt to put Mark Brunell back in at QB. Just think about it, McCardell won't be on the first team for a while, and he'll get to work with the QB who helped him get a lot of those catches.

If, God forbid, JC goes down with an injury, could those two (ocho and Keenan - dare I call them "O.K.") catch lightning in a bottle for one last run?

...okay, not plausible, but I just wanna put it out there in case it plays out that way.

There's only 2 teams in the whole NFL with less completions than the Redskins... we don't throw to our wideouts hardly at all... not suprising that our #3 has no opportunities...

He isn't getting passes thrown his way because either the coaches and/or JC don't have confidence in him. CP said in his interview that Lloyd has talent but isn't consistent. To me that means that either isn't getting it done in practice or doesn't give 100% on every play when he is in the game. If that's the case then it isn't a surprise that Gibbs isn't playing him more. You look at the other three receivers (Moss, ARE, Thrash) and each of those guys works hard in practice and always gives 100% on the field, running routes, blocking, etc. Can the same be said for Lloyd?

That's a very good point. It's not like Thrash has come in for Lloyd and started tearing it up. I don't even think that we have thrown a pass in his direction. Which brings me to the question of why spend so much money on receivers if we aren't going to open up the offense? JC himself said in post game after the Giants game that he feels that he can handle more of the offense, so maybe Gibbs just needs to let Saunders open up the O.

Cause Lloyd makes bad routes and when we do trow it he either drops it or miss reads it.

Lloyd doesn't make the routes, he runs the routes. I would misread the route, too, if it was misspelled.

Your habitual disrespect for talented but older players borders on bigotry.

Keenan McCardell still has some miles to go, and can both run a route and do something with the ball once he has it. He could help this team as a possession reciever. Old does not mean "no good".

Would you like a positive guess or a negative one?

Positive - Redskins are looking for a possession receiver. They don't appear to have one right now.

Negative - Santana Moss' hamstring is worse than advertised and the Redskins have to add another receiver just to accomodate certain formations.

I dont make the rules. It is a law of nature. When you get older your body cannot perform the same as it once did when it was 20 years old.
Also why hasnt any other team picked him up? This may be the oppurtunity that Lloyd needs to breakout.

I agree that KM is too old for my taste. If we sign him, it better be for the Vet minimum and nothing more.

Your opinion of Thrash is way off base, in my opinion. This guy is a rock-solid player that plays his heart out each and every game. I, for one, would love to have 54 for "James Thrash" types on my team!

Ok Thrash may play his heart out, but we still need production out of his position. I guess we may just have to go after a tall physical reciever in the draft next year.

Thrash is awesome. Love the guy.

BLloyd...who was the idiot in Personnel that said we need to bring this guy to Washington?

McCardell...should have never been let go in the first place. He does have a year or two left and IS A GOOD WR! End of story

If we sign him...we need to USE HIM!

We could sign Randy Moss but if he can't get open and we don't throw to him....
