That dude's blog is amazing. I take everything bad I said about Smoot back. Also, it seems like someone at the Post has found his blog and used it as a source (see today's article explaining the cover 3 and the cushion).

Looks like JLC has found himself another "inside source, close to the Front Office".

Any time you mention Freddy "way back when" you need to mention he was opposite one of teh great DBs in todays game. I doubt Freddy was matched up against any elite #1s when you have Champ in the equation.

Freddy has some work to do to get himself back to where he was when he was here before. In order for him to do that though, he needs Springs on the other side to lock down that side so that he can get safety help on his side while he get's his legs back.

Rogers is done IMO. On a crucial 3rd and 7-8, you play 2 yards past the first down marker giving the receiver a big cushion, means you don't have your technique and/or confidence. As soon as I saw the formation on Sunday and saw how far he was playing off with the first down marker 2 yards in front of him, I told my buddy that, that is where Trent Green is throwing. And as soon as he snapped the ball, he turned left and throw it for a first down. A caveman can understand that you don't give a receiver 9-10 yard cushion on a 3rd and 7-8.

Rogers would be 3rd or not playing at all on other teams except ours. He's not a snail so if you have problem with your technique, then master the bump-run technique so you can jam up the receiver and throw him off his route at the beginning of the play. Alot pass players are timing so if you can disrupt that by effectively bumping at the line, you win a part of the battle and can get some help over the top if needed. It's like Rogers doesn't have any confidence in his technique or his speed.....

Start Springs and at least get that $5mill. out of him that you didn't want to pay him....

It may help to read the previous posts in this thread. A defensive back cannot play "Bump & Run" in a cover 3 Umbrella defense.

Is it true that we aren't playing a cover 1 because of the lack of a pass rush?

Can he atleast play a little closer and a little above the sticks... This monday will be the end of all Grampa 'Los haters... I hope.... If not then we get to make fun of him for another week. Smoot will get there this week or the next. Past production = present production (or something to that effect) I'm not big on Rogers, I'm hoping maybe, just maybe this week is his week.

There is no point in having a playbook or a defensive scheme if the players are going to take it upon themselves to decide how to cover a receiver. The defensive coordinator is responsible for calling the defensive schemes. If GW thought a cover 2 or a man / zone defense would be more productive I'm quite certain he would call for those schemes. Players who do whatever they want to (See LaVar Arrington) don't stick around this organization very long. Football is not a democracy. Football is an oligarchy. The select few make decisions and the masses live with the results of those decisions.

wasn't it also said that GW alters his scheme to the player's skill set?

i just decided to bump this thread for the people that aren't familiar about a cover 3 defense that have obviously been trying to find one reason to hate on Carlos like usual...no he is not a top 10 player, or living up to his expectations so far, but he is playing as one of our best cb's this year

So you think he is playing good then? That touchdown where he was completely lost was an excellent example of when it comes down to the nitty gritty, how much we can depend on him. Burress isn't THAT good....

Regardless of how he plays I think Steve is saying that out of all our CB's heis still one of the top guys. I totally agree with you, he sucks, Smoot's going to take his job late this season. I've read that he is a physical corner... How can use be a physical corner when your giving that much cushion? He will get better.

Start Smoot right now I hope Rogers is injured for 3 weeks and Smoot does so good that Smoot starts fully.

Yep. Carlos got beat on that play. And if you get beat on one play, your garbage. You don't like players much do you. I never seem to read any posts from you talking up a player, only saying how badly they suck.

Not really he just gave up maybe 6 yards for 3 first downs but upgraded much more in the 4th Q.

Yeah, the breakdown at postgameheroes made it pretty clear Smoot's performance was actually relatively solid.

Cover 3 is fine and dandy but...

Next years draft..

1. Young beastly defensive end.
2. Young lockdown corner.
3. Qb pressuring, bone jarring hitter, RB eater upper linebacker, or just bring
Lavar Arrington back and use him mainly as a blitzer.

I believe in the defensive philosophy of kill the Qb!

First the dirty version. First quarter I have one of my third string Linebackers blitz every play. This blitzers job is to hurt the starting qb of the opposing team.

Example ball is hiked Tom Brady drops back for a pass completed to Randy Moss, three seconds later our third string linebacker unloads on Tom Brady and hopefully takes him out for the game. If Brady Gets back up for the next play oh well we do it again. Voila the opposing teams starting Qb out for the game. Yes we will get penalties but the overall result is we are facing a weaker team.

Another example.

Visualize this.

1st quarter opening drive Dallas ball on the twenty yard line.
Redskins defense lines up in an odd formation.

Landry and Taylor are both thirty yards back splitting halves of the field.
The rest of the nine defensive players are all lined up at the line making a nine man front defensive line. Ball is hiked Tony Romo drops back for a pass, He sees three to four defenders in his face he quickly hits his hot route to T.O. Taylor tackles Owens. A three seconds after the play is done
Carter is holding Toni like a target mit, while Marcus Washington is charging full speed just as Washington is about to hit Romo Carter tosses Romo into a charging Washington. Boom!! POW!! Kabloowi!!!

This is the patented 9-2 defense. The play is called ROMO NOMO!

I have always been a fan of Lavar. I'd love to see him wear B&G again.

Lavar was good if he could stay healthy, and without excessive attitude IIRC.
