Burress claims Redskins' talk was pure trash
Tuesday, September 25, 2007
BY BRENDAN PRUNTY
Star-Ledger Staff
Plaxico Burress didn't need another reason to want to beat the Redskins on Sunday. An 0-2 start and a team beleaguered by defensive problems had already taken care of that.
But when he caught the Redskins doing some trash talking on television before the game, he got it.
"In the back of their minds they already had us beat," Burress said. "If you turned on the TV (Sunday) before the game, you realized that all the things that they were saying were like they were just going to walk on top of us. They didn't think that we were a good football team."
No one is sure what channel Burress was watching. As Giants center Shaun O'Hara said: "I wasn't in his room, so that's the first I've heard of it."
Burress though seemed to take offense to whatever he heard the Redskins saying on television.
"They were talking about our defense and how they gave up 80 points in the first two games -- which they did -- and they just didn't think that our (defense) couldn't handle their receivers and things like that. But our defense went out there and played well."
The Giants defense shut out Washington in the second half, including a game-winning stop at the goal line. There was some speculation that some of the jawing may have come from Redskins wide receiver Antwaan Randle El on one of the many Redskins pregame talk shows, but it is not certain.
Giants cornerback Sam Madison thinks fellow cornerback Corey Webster's benching in the second half was more a result of trying to get some reps for rookie Aaron Ross.
"That's just like what happened with me in the Dallas game," Madison said.
The veteran did not say if Webster -- who has been flip-flopping between starting and coming off the bench -- has lost his job to Ross, who had arguably his best game thus far.

Guys I just noticed this article and wanted to know what you thought about this. I think Burress is acting like an idiot. The Redskins were not talking trash. Your thoughts?

We deserve it, all of it and more. I hope they really insult us. Maybe such talk will start a well deserved fire under our team's seat, if you know what I mean.

Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

Burress is the first player from either team I've heard remotely talk trash about that game. Before or after.
What an idiot.
I hope Taylor/Landry tack this one up on their lockers for a few weeks.

All that came out of Redskins park was not taking them for granted, and talking them up which is emblematic of Gibbs' style.
He is a retard.
Hey Plaxico..your team is still 1-2 and dead last in the Division. This one was free, but we will collect before the year is over.

I'm sure it's bookmarked for later use... I'm also sure that Plaxico is too cocky to keep his mouth shut during the week before the next game...
Bring it, Plax!

If the Gnats go 1-15, Burress will still be flapping his gums about how the Redskins thought they had this game in the bag.

I COMPLETELY agree. The only way this team has the right mindset is if people criticize them and say they suck. I can't believe i'm saying this, but maybe we should be more like philly fans and if the skins aren't performing we should SHOW OUR DISCONTENT louder than we have been
There are only two teams I root for in the NFL. The Skins, and whoever is playing Dallas.
It's okay that we drafted a Landry. After this season, the crygirls will have a new association with that name.

MossIsBoss88 may have clinched the award for worst post of the century, when he wrote:I can't believe i'm saying this, but maybe we should be more like philly fans and if the skins aren't performing we should SHOW OUR DISCONTENT louder than we have been
It's worked wonders in Philly, right?

Back and better than ever!

This is one time I'll have to agree. There's a reason Philly keeps a jail underneath their football stadiums and that reason is not the visiting players or fans. Philly leads the NFL in fan arrests per game. That's not a reputation we want or need in D.C.

I wonder if Burress would have said the same stuff, had the Skins continued to steam roll them.
Where was all his "motivation" in the FIRST half, when he was dropping balls left and right?
Please. Unless the Giants were filming the Redskins sidelines during the first half (get Goodell on the phone!!), there's really no way he would have seen tape of guys talking junk about the Gints D.

Doesn't FedEx also have a holding cell?
Don't know, but I can tell you that there is not, nor has there ever been a courtroom... There was at the Vet... don't know about the Linc...
