Key To Victory Over The Eagles

Post by Justice Hog »

One thing that has irked me somewhat about the Redskins last year and yes, even in game #1 of this year, is their propensity to drive down the field and only get "3" points instead of a TD. To beat the Eagles this week, the Skins will need to get touchdowns, not just field goals.

To that end, I predict we will see this play this week.

To attack an over-pursuing Eagles defense, look for Jason Campbell to pitch the ball back to Randle El on an apparent end around only to watch El throw the ball to Moss for a touchdown.

Mark my words, we're gonna see that play this week.

You heard it here first!

My gut tells me that the Eagles are still reeling from their loss to the Packers and they are ripe for another upset. Here's hoping my gut is correct!

If we can run the ball like last week and Santana remembers how to catch a football, we will have a great chance of winning.

If you want to see your theory in action, check out the stats from the second Eagles-Redskins game last season.

The last time I marked your words they didn't come true! Anyways, I believe we will win this game again on defense. We will begin our season 2-0 while the eagles will be 0-2.

The two related keys to me are:

1) Good pass protection for Jason; and

2) A good passing/receiving game by our QB -and- receivers.

I have no question in my mind that our D can handle their offense and that we will have a good running game.

the key to victory is PLAY ACTION

if we stay committed to the running game, i suspect, we can get 3 easy touchdowns throwing play action passes to whoever is replacing lito sheppard.

Is McNabb healthy enough to run this year? Coz we might have to put a "SPY" on him. I hope they pound it out with a rush heavy attack.. I love seing the line make holes.

simple solution ....don,t turn the ball over.....
get after them for 4 quarters run the ball withsome play action ..then come with the justice play when jim johnson sends them all ..burn them good..
make them feel philthy in philly.

JH, you make a very good point. 3 points won't be enough. This offense is in it's second year and it's time for them to put up or shut up. It's time for this offense to pull it's own weight has it has been incapable of doing during this tenure. In 2004, the statistic was that if we scored at least 21 points a game, we would have been unstoppable... The fact remains that if we can put up at least 21 points per game offensively, we'll win a vast majority of our games. Our defense gave us a gift last week, a turnover and we squandered it. We HAVE to score off of those extra drives.

My keys to victory?

- The offense has to score at least 21 points.
- Split the carries just like we did against the Phins.
- Assign a spy to Brian Westbrook because they're going to try to work the flats and get him in open space.
- Get the passing game nailed down.

everyones mentioning what our O needs to do but 1st and foremost our D is going to need to play a huge part to win this game.. I know alot us are confident in the D with how they have played thru the preseason and week 1 but im still worried about our secondary ...

McNabb had a poor showing last week and I dont expect him to do the same for their home opener on monday night.. the fact that Green had all day to pass on us last week and ate up our secondary for some yards worries me.. the Eagles have a much better passing attack with a better TE in Smith and better RB in Westbrook .. they will try and exploit us underneath with the short passing game ..

we need Gregg to trust in this D and send some players at McNabb we have to apply pressure we cant sit back and let our secondary get picked apart .. we have to blitz more often then we have been IMO

We need a couple of take-aways - a fumble recovery and in interception. That'll take the wind out of their sail.

Of course it should go without saying we can't afford to give up any turnovers.

yea it would be nice to see us win the turnover battle against them.. for some reason they always seem to catch lucky breaks against us..

Everyone is mentioning the offense because they consistently inconsistent. How many points did we score last week? And the defense provided them with a turnover! 13 points is not going to cut it anyway you slice it. They need to score at least 21 points a game.

We know the defense will do their part, we need not even mention them. The offense is the issue and hopefully they'll awaken this coming Monday. The defense had a bad year in 2006, the offense hasn't had a good year yet. They've had promising games and stretches but nothing to hang your hat on.

24 points!

I think the team will need to score 24 points, because would be willing to bet the EGirls score 20-23.

To do this we just do what we did against Miami! Run the ball and stop the run. And hit 3 or 4 big plays in the passing game.

Philthy will have success throwing the ball against us, we just have to make them one dementional and limited their scoring to mostly field goals.

I don't think Philly will do tell well in the pass. Miami mostly killed us with the dump off passes. Sure, they got 2-3 nice gains via the air but it only mattered cus we left the door wide open for them because the OFFENSE failed to score a reasonable amount of points.

For once during this tenure, the offense needs to man up and win these games on their own.

We don't have a defense like the Ravens that can overcome 5 turnovers a game, but they will keep us in it.

I dont know how you can have such faith in our pass defense.. Green had a very nice day against us and that doesnt include the drops Miami had.. his number would of been even better.. the Eagles love to throw the ball.. they arent going to play like they did last week.. our secondary is my biggest concern going into this game.. the middle of the field was left wide open last week.. we have to contain Smith and Westbrook

Correct. Westbrook doesn't hurt us with the running game, it's the screen passes and short dump offs. I think Rocky can handle him. He showed a lot of quickness sideline to sideline Sunday

I'm not expecting our defense to shut them out. They can't, they aren't good enough. But they will keep us in the game as they usually do. And that's why the onus is on our offense to step up to the plate for once.

Just blitz Landry to take out McNabb - not for the season but until November 11th when he can do it again when we next meet.

One key would be to play pass defense really well early in the game. If McNabb struggles like he did against GB, I can see those classy Philly fans letting him have it with the boos. The fact Philly spent thier first draft pick on a QB already has to be messing with his head. Getting booed his home opener would probably only rattle him more.

Green had a pretty good day against us... if you consider hiting a few consecutive underneath routes on your way to a 3-n-out, a good day...

we dominated their RBs and played off the WRs, keeping everything in front. i expect a similar approach this week with, i hope, springs starting and landry spying more than blitzing

THE TWO BIGGEST KEYS ARE THE FOLLOWING:

1) Offense: Establish a good running attack. The Eagles were weak against the run and I doubt they improved since canning Jeremiah Trotter.

2) Defense: Apply constant pressure on McNabb and DBs keep it all in front of them. Let's beat up on the Eagles for a change. If we can't sack McNabb, make sure he gets hit. Let the WRs have the short ones and come up and hit them hard, cause fumbles and alligator arms.

I really hope we see Springs and Rogers with Smoot as the nickel this week - I still think Springs is our best corner and Rogers should be allowed to show that he is over last season's efforts.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
