Portis-How much weight did he gain?

Post by DiRTyHoG3026 »

I was watching the game and I noticed how much he has gained over the off season. Last year he came into training camp at almost the same size as his denver days and looked very explosive in the limited playing time he got during the season. Now he looks like he's heavier than he was in 2005. He did have an excellent game, but it the slowest I have seen him look in his whole career. He's gotta be at least 220 now, and he just seems to lack the explosiveness he had last year.

I just am wondering why he has gained so much weight since he came to washington. I know he wanted to be able to withstand the beating from a smashmouth running game, but he's supposed to be splitting carries with betts this year. Wouldn't it have been better to keep the weight off and be the speed/big play guy while betts plays the role of power back? He's went from being one of the fastest backs to the league, to getting run down when he breaks free into the secondary. He's just a completely different back then he used to be.

Yeah I seem to remember reading that he'd dropped weight too this offseason. Not sure how his weight compares to when he was in Denver though...

NFL.com lists him at 223

Redskins.com does as well ... also, DiRTyHoG3026, doesn't your sig make the question a moot one?

Does it really matter? The team did what most fans want, they won.

Lol, that sig is like 3 years old, I just threw it in there without really caring and I barely ever post here so I never got around to changing it.

He got nailed in the ribs early and they had to pad it.... Maybe he looked slow cos he's hurtin a bit on the side, looked bigger because of the padding... ah, that's all I got, I didn't notice anything different on his runs..

He didn't look slow to me. Wait until he is in the open field and see who catches him from behind.

He also was wearing a flak jacket under his jersey to protect his ribs.

He'll hit top form in a few weeks which is scary because he's already a beast.

Looks faster and stronger to me.I mean Portis is never going to get slower but he did get weaker in 06 and that resulted injurys. Now hes stronger and still has his speed and thats what we want.

I predict a 1700 yard Season with 13 TD for Por-tiz.
