How long is Jansen expected to be out with the ankle?

Talk about the Washington Football Team here. Do you bleed burgundy and gold?

They said 'broken' on TV also. Either way, we're without Jansen for a good long while IMO.

There it is from Redskins.com fractured dislocation... probably a season ender. :(

Gibbs said in his post-game comments that they chose to dress Heyer over Wade because they were concerned about Samuels' conditioning, having missed most of the preseason. Since Heyer had played LT for most of the pre-season, they figured he might spell him for a while.

I think if Heyer grades out well from his action today, he may still get the start next week.

but anyways the point is, jansen got injured by a guy rolling up on him as a result of the chaotic mess of blockers/rushers that resulted from the defender being literally an entire body-length in front of the rest of the d-line at the snap.

what could the ref POSSIBLY have been looking at to miss that call???

I agree. Everyone at the bar noticed the offsides, why couldn't the official standing five feet away?

i dont know if its just me but when i saw the replay. it just looked like a really good jump on the ball. i mean he moved right with the ball. he wasnt offside IMO. but yeah i heard his ankle was broken. hopefully its not that serious but either way it looks like we arent going to have #76 for a while.

it sucks but i'm not too worried about it. I mean Heyer did a good job stepping in and Wade is an experienced player. so we have 2 solid people for the job.

I reading on the Redskins website that Jansen might be done for the year. I feel real bad for him.

Wade, before a quick exit from the locker room, said he will start at right tackle next Monday against the Philadelphia Eagles. His shoulder, he said, is no longer a concern.

Coaches were noncommittal about next week's starter. "Let me rest on that one for a couple of days," assistant head coach-offense Joe Bugel said. In the meantime, plenty of praise was heaped on Heyer, who gamely filled in at left tackle for an injured Samuels throughout the preseason.

I knew the minute he went down that it was a season ending injury. Anytime you see a guy get rolled like that, it's either ligaments, ankle injury, or a broken leg, and they're all enough to end a season. It looked eerily close to the infamous Theismann broken leg against the Giants. At first, I thought it was ligaments, and later heard it was the ankle.

In any event, when I saw the trainer trying frantically to comfort Jansen, who was obviously in excruciating unbearable pain, I knew it was a season ending injury.

And even though he was in such agaony, Jansen still asked the trainers if they made the field goal. This guy is a gamer, and right now all we can do is hope for his recovery and welcome him back with open arms next year. In the meantime, Stephon Hoyer will have to carry the load, and it's trial by fire!!!
Sit back and watch the Redskins.

SOMETHING MAGICAL IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!

Jansen Speaks .. So Does Wade

Jon just did a conference call with us. It was pretty gruesome. He will have surgery this week, either Wed. or Thursday and will be out probably 4 months. Said he is unsure if he will be placed on IR right away, ending his season, but seemed to expect the move at some point.

Todd Wade says he is operating on the assumption he is starting indefinitely. Wade says that Coach Joe Gibbs and associate head coach Al Saunders both gave him "The Nod" - you know, that universal look and tilt of the head that means, get ready to strap it on and step up, son. We need 'ya.

Have to wait until Coach Joe talks around 5 pm to find out if Wade's reading of body language was correct, but he was fairly adamant about being the guy.

As for Jansen, until they perform the surgery the doctors will not know how extensive the ligament damage is, but there will be some. Jon said they reset the fracture on the field - holy schnikes I almost puked just hearing him describe it - and said "I could feel things popping, I could feel things breaking" at the time his leg got rolled.

Jon said he'll spend 6 weeks in a cast and on crutches and then will be able to put some weight on the fractured and dislocated right ankle in a walking boot. Ten to 12 weeks after surgery he should be running and "by end of three-to-four months there I should be able to resume any normal training."

The Redskins still have three healthy tackles so there is no rush per say to put Jansen on IR, and who knows, perhaps after surgery they see a reason to keep him active for a post-season. But Jansen was focusing on being back for next year, and was talking about this injury in the same terms as the 2004 ruptured left Achilles that kept him out of that entire season.

Since then Jansen has broken both thumbs and was finally forced out of the lineup once last season with a calf injury as well. He plans to be around the team more than he was while rehabbing in 2004.
