2007 Playoffs - who's in, and who's out?

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

2007 Playoffs - who's in, and who's out?

Post by Mursilis »

Since the NFL has now embraced parity (more or less), there's a fair degree of turnover in the playoffs every year. There's always a team or two that becomes the Cinderella, going from bad the year before to contender (think the Saints last year), and there's also a team which fades and misses out on the post-season. So who will be the new contenders and pretenders this year?

2006 playoff teams:
NFC
Seattle
NY Giants
Philly
Dallas
Chicago
New Orleans

AFC
Baltimore
Indy
New England
San Diego
NY Jets
Kansas City

For this year's collapsing team, I pick the Chiefs, because it's just too easy. They've lost pieces on thier line, they're in a strong division, and their QB situation is in flux. I can't see them back in the post-season this year. Honorable mention goes to the Giants, who lost their best RB and have the lesser Manning at QB.

For this year's new contenders, I pick .... the Redskins! With a much-improved defense and an upgrade at QB, plus a weak schedule, this team will contend strongly for the post-season. Honorable mention goes to Denver - they usually find a way to contend, and only barely missed the playoffs last year.

In the AFC, and despite some preseason injuries, I think the Broncos will bounce back and be in the postseason this year.

Have to predict the Skins, of course.

In the AFC, I agree that Kansas City is the easy target for a team collapse. I really would like to see Baltimore go sub 9-7.

I think that the Giants are out of the playoffs almost without question. The real surprise, as far as the media might be concerned, is that Dallas won't be any closer. I see the Skins and Philly in the playoffs, and I'm hoping that the Redskins are the ones with homefield advantage. . .

I would say the Giants collapse this year badly. I would not be surprised if they were 3-13 or so by the end of the year. I agree that Kansas City does not appear to be strong this year. I actually could see the Browns and Lions challenging this year.

i say in the AFC the Jets and Cheifs miss the plays off. with the Broncos and Titans making it.

NFC i have the Giants, Seatle and Dallas missing this year. with the Rams, 49ers and Redskins making it.

gotta agree with everyone on the chiefs missing.. and clearly the Giants from the NFC..

The Redskins will make it for the NFC this year and I think the Broncos will get it done in the AFC

We may be the only team from the East in the POs this season.
From the NFC:
Redskins
Bears
Saints
Seahawks
Panthers
Cardinals - Just for fun

From the AFC:
Patriots
Steelers
Colts
Chargers
Ravens
Broncos

That's East, North, South, West and then the two wild card teams.
The SB will be Redskins-Patriots with the 'Skins winning a game that follows the same script as '82; a hard-fought battle, eventually won in the fourth quarter, by wearing the Patsies down with our grinding ground game.

That would be too sweet. Something to be savored for an entire off season...

Yes! I still feel good about 2005, when we were the only East team to get a win in the playoffs – heck, the only East team to put up a fight in the playoffs!

I'm in. I just need the Skins to cooperate and get homefield throughout.

Bump to see how we did in our predictions. The Giants surprised a lot of people, including myself, by returning to the post-season. However, a bunch of us saw that Chiefs collapse coming from a mile away. Baltimore's collapse was more of a surprise.

Not too good in the NFC, but I got 4 out of 6 in the AFC. And I still stand by my SB pick! 8)
