Like Cooley said, he didn't want this on his mind at all .....during the season.
This will cause him to play his best.

Great news. Next time the Skins cut an underperforming and highly paid starter and the "core redskin" whining starts, we can point back to this signing as evidence that yeah, they value being a core redskin, but they also value people who can actually still play at a high level.

Three predictions:

1. Cooley has a great year.
2. Christy is extremely happy about the new contract.
3. Cooley has a great night, courtesy of one, elated, soon-to-be, Mrs. Cooley.8)

This is good news. I think if we would have waited any longer other teams would have started to offer more money.

:-s What are you talking about? Teams can't offer a player under contract ANYTHING until March 1st, the start of free agency... assuming, of course, said player has become a free agent.

Plus, I wonder if anyone would pay more than 6 years, 30 million as the Skins have.

Cooley is a core Skin and I'm glad he's getting some of The Danny's money.

Daniel Graham signed a five-year, $30 million contract. $15 million was guaranteed, Tony Gonzalez signed a five-year, $31.5 million contract including $17.7 million in various bonuses.
These are the two highest paid TE's in the NFL.

If he would have hit free agency in 2008 without a drop in his production he would have been offered at least that from someone, or the Skins could have Franchised him and he would have lost a lot of money because the tag for a TE was only $3,327,000 this off-season.

I'm pretty sure that 6th year is voidable also

Yeah you're probably right; I'd forgotten that even TEs got insane money in the recent free agency gluttony.

Well let me be more clear. If we would have waited until next year, I am sure if Cooley has a good year teams would be lining up to pick him up.

This is a six year extension, so he will actually be with us for the next 7 seasons, counting 2007.
