Top 500 Hundred Players *Warning SI-Skin Bashing Content*

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Top 500 Hundred Players *Warning SI-Skin Bashing Content*

Post by jazzskins »

Peter King released a top 500 list of the best players in the league. Our first player doesn't appear until number 122 (Chris Samuels). Here are some of the notable players listed in the first 121 slots.

Chad Pennington
Ronde Barber
Kamerion Wimbley
Antonio Pierce
Kelly Gregg
Devin Hester
Trevor Price
Calvin Johnson (OK, he may be great....but, he hasn't played a snap in the NFL!)
Casey Hampton
Ty Warren
Kerry Rhodes
Logan Mankins
Chad Clifton
Willie Anderson

Also, CP doesn't appear until 202. London Fletcher doesn't appear until 301 (a few spots after Robbie Gould).

Per his own explanation of his criteria (below) Samuels should probably be a top 50-70 player.
So I thought I might make a list, the best of the best. The criteria: importance of the position (I had quarterback, left tackle, pass rusher and cornerback at the top, but with room for the explosive player), talent level and age -- with a nod to young players on the cusp of a breakout season (I rank opportunistic Jets safety Kerry Rhodes 29th) and to team-oriented guys (selfless Javon Walker 80, selfish Terrell Owens 103).

By his own admission the Ravens are 19-14 over the last tow years but have 9 guys in the top 100.....clearly they aren't as good as he thinks if they are 19-14, and didn't win a road game in 2005.

I used to think 'skins fans who bashed the guy or thought he had anti-skins bias were just looking for something to complain about, but then I saw this list. It doesn't even make sense - for example, he writes about our "best" player (according to the list), Chris Samuels, that he's "nicked a lot"?!?! Look it up, Petey - it's right there at NFL.com. Samuels has missed 4(!!) games in 7 seasons, and has played complete 16-games seasons the last 3 years!!! That's "nicked a lot"!?!? Please!! Maybe he's just going on the fact that Samuels is essentially sitting out preseason, but anyone who actually does a bit of research knows that's just a precautionary measure, taken by a vet with team approval, and he'll be ready to go come opening day.

And don't even get me started on the where Samuels and the rest of our talent in ranked - that's a whole other rant, and I don't have the time. Let me just say that ranking Leinart (played little more than half a season last year) and Calvin Johnson (hasn't played at ALL!) higher than any current Redskin just shows some sort of bias, laziness, or something. :explode:

Ditto, the guy doesn't think Art Monk is one of the greatest wideouts ever, everything that comes out of his mouth is tainted with that stupidity

Although he's at least admitted he may be wrong about that. Some stupidity is curable, but King's case appears to be stubborn, even if has responded somewhat to treatment. See my discussion of his Samuels assessment, above.

That's exactly why this list doesn't bother me in the least, Peter King gets an SI cover because he's been around so long, not because his analysis or opinion are worthwhile. It's purely, 100% subjective nonsense, any fool can put a list together, it takes a total jackass like King to put together one this worthless.
