In fact, there's a dented helmet in the hall of fame that Sam damaged because he hit someone too hard.
Sam Huff wrote:Jimmy Taylor was a romping, stomping fullback. It was a great rivalry because he would carry the ball. He was not the type of back that would run out of bounds, he would try to run over you. He used to say, 'I'll sting him, you know, when I get out in the open field, someone tries to tackle me, I'm going to sting him.' So, you knew that as a linebacker and so when you played against him, you had to really tie that helmet on tight and tie your shoes on tight because he was a load. I mean, you just knew him, you get him out in the field and you get him one-on-one you knew that he was going to turn on you and come at you like a Brama bull. And, you had to hit him with everything that you had. And, I did that in New York in 1962 in the world championship game. I hit him so hard that my helmet dented. And, if you go to the Hall of Fame and you go to the Sam Huff display there, you'll see the helmet's got a big dent in it. That's where I hit Jimmy Taylor in 1962.
