Rotoworld.com is reporting that Portis is going to see Dr. James Andrews tomorrow about his knee. I really hope this isn't a sign of a surgery...here's the quote from rotoworld:
Clinton Portis will visit Dr. James Andrews in Nashville.
The Redskins say they believe the knee is getting better, but they've been saying that Portis is "days from returning" for two weeks now. A visit to Dr. Andrews is always reason for concern.
Didnt this same doctor just evaluate the MRI...And said it was negative?
"It's almost like, you play a kid's game for a king's ransom," he said. "And if you don't take it serious enough, eventually one day you're going to say, 'Oh, I could have done this, I could have done that."

Actually, they're going to meet Andrews in Nashville. Andrews is a "senior orthopedic consultant" with the club and he's going to look at anyone who needs his opinion.
Portis says he is still unsure of when he will practice next. Said his knee still "flares up" when he cuts and turns, but is repsonding well to new stretching exercises, and the bulk of his treatment is now more based around stretching, rather than weight work like last week,
Portis said he does not know much more work he will be able to take next week. Coach Joe says he remains encouraged by the reports he is getting on Clinton. Portis will travel with the team to Nashville so that everybody's favorite orthopedic, James Andrews, can evaluate him again. They believe everything is headed in the right direction.
Again, as I've said, I tend to think this is a bigger deal than some out there. He's missed two weeks of practice. I don't see anyway he would play in a preseason game until the thrid game, and that might be pushing it.
IF portis is just doing this to get out of training camp and wasting the team doctors time and the owners money just to get out of work that is pretty low. I like to think that no redskins is quite that low. However, we all know that Portis hates practice.....I do not know if I would be more upset if James Andrews says that there is nothing wrong or if there is something major wrong. On the one hand it really looks like he's screwing the team over and the other hand it is screwing the team over.
Ughh - I've been feeling like this will be "one of those injuries" for CP throughout the season. It just seems like we might hear how he's feeling fine one week, and hurting the next - until January. I hope they figure out some way to heal it up for good.
This Sucks! Portis is on my fantasy team for my keeper league.........I need him to have a good year or I'm gonna suck.
This sucks for the team too! Portis has that 5th gear that Betts doesn't have. Plus, Portis has been known to knock out blitzing linebackers. Portis also doesn't have fumblitus................Don't get me wrong Betts is a very good running back, but its going to hurt us and my fantasy team if he's not 100% this year!
I admit this does have me a bit concerned, but only from the standpoint of him missing practice. He needs to be out there with his teammates. Come the regular season, I'm sure they can simply give him an injection in his knee and he could go full speed. I get injections in my elbow and it helps a great deal, although I'm not a RB in the NFL. I don't have a problem with holding him out of a few preseason games, but he does need some practice time with the starting line-up.

Im really hoping and pulling for Portis. He has another season like last. His career will be in trouble.
The thing thats worring me, is that if this is not an issure, then why did they sign another back??
This just would not have been done, knowing it would have been good for team to keep Will W.
Well, I don't think the release of Whitticker had anything to do with Portis at all - that was entirely down to the fact that Whitticker had an injury that won't be clearing up any time soon.
As for signing another back, I read that Betts has a neck problem as well, so a body was needed for practice as much as anything else.
I'm convinced that Portis would be playing at the weekend if it was a regular season game, and that they are being ultra cautious with his knee. But I won't say that I'm not bothered by it - a recurrent knee problem is really troublesome for a running back.

this is the same doctor who just looked at Porter's knee when they said he was just going to get it checked out and then the next thing you hear is he had surgey.. I hope Portis isnt following the same pattern.. I just hope when monday rolls around we arent hearing about any surgey
Even if the new back is just a body for practice, Didn't they have to make room for him by letting Whitticker go? Im not sure, but it seems if there was not any other needs they would not have let Whitticker go. But just so happens he got hurt, that plus the need for another back(practice body). I dunno, Im just saying why would you let him go jus cause of injury if we had absolutely no other needs. If injury is the only reason they let him go, they need to release a lot of other people.
But really though, I hope you're right. Ill TRY to stay on the half full side of things, but its getting really hard, when its something with his knee over and over again. I just wish Portis well, 100% again. Thats one of the things I have been looking foward to all offseason long and its a little frustrating.
when they decided to cut Whitticker they said they thought about whether he would have even made the team and decided releasing him was the way to go.. the injury only caused them to do it earlier... why keep a guy that will be out at least a few weeks that you werent even sure would make your team..
the running back we picked up wont make the team and I would be suprised to see him make it through more than a couple preseason games because as mentioned earlier hes just a body for camp right now
I think the release of Whitticker comes down to a combination of factors, but the central cause is that he was injured. A high ankle sprain is a tough one to get over, and we really can't afford to keep a player around at this time of year with that kind of problem, unless he's a key player. Whitticker wasn't guaranteed to make the roster at all, and releasing him costs us nothing. It gives us a chance to look at somebody else who can help on the line, and frees space to bring in a running back to help out in practice too.
It's just a shame that they can't bring back Jesse Lumsden to help out, but that's a different thread all together.
I'm pretty active for an old guy (42) and run and play sports weekly. A few years ago I developed tendonitis in my left knee. It'll get to the point where I can't move it. And the kicker is it's a mystery. MRI's show a perfectly healthy knee. The last specialist I saw said I might have microscopic scar tissue in the tendon. Crazy. And stretching helps more then anything. The point? It's not a simple condition to diagnos or treat. It will clear up with rest and so on. But will flare up out of nowhere. And when it's bad the knee won't function. Thankfully Clinton is younger and has the best medical care in the world. If it can be managed they'll manage it. And he'll play.
I Just got a brand spanking new Clinton Portis Jersey so he will rush for over 2000 yards this season. Then we going to tha club, because he has got the hookup with Gibbs4life and LarryLandoooooova. Spank It!
