What should my expectations be this year?
Each year I enter a new Redskins season with optimism and, I hate to admit this, very lofty expectations. Just about every year I get very dissapointed, almost disgusted.
Yes, I'd be the first to say that this year, once again, my expectations are high? Why? 2nd year in the same offensive system. New QB. Few injuries. Solid secondary. Very good RBs and WRs. One of the best TEs in the league.
So, should I - once again - enter this season with lofty expectations yet again or would I be better served expecting the worst and hoping for the best?
Gotta tell ya, it's really difficult to go into a new season with a pessimistic attitude. Don't think I can do that!!!

The way I see it you have to have optimism and hope. If you don't It would seem as though you have given up on the Skins. Hope and optimism, well, thats why we still watch, biting our finger nails on every play and cursing at the refs, or the other team, or even the play call.
As far as expectations goes. No one can know what to expect in the NFL. Look at the Saints. Things change, players change, systems change. From what Im seeing, our changes can only better our team and we can only get better. I expect to see Tayler drill someone. I expect Portis to break free for a TD. I expect Moss to catch a long ball.
And Im very optimistic and hopefull about our season.

The only issue I see with the Skins this year is our unproven defnsive line. I was severely let down last year with Lloyd's bust, Archuleta's bust, and how long it took management to pull Brunell from the starting line-up, so I'm wary this year. I've been an avid Reskins fan as long as I can remember. That used to be the family event on Sundays from Sep - Dec(Jan if we were lucky). I have lofty expectations, but I'm not going to get excited like I did last year, but I think we have a solid slightly above average crew at all positions, with a few well above/exceptional positions covered. I say we have a good chance at taking the division, but the defensive line needs to step up for us to be Super Bowl contenders. Time will tell......

If it didn't hurt, we wouldn't be fans.

Yup - much to be optimistic about. I think at the very least, we can expect a better year this year than last (and I'm saying that as an Anti-Homer).

Hope springs eternal in the heart of every true fan. As BnGhog noted, in today's NFL, anything can happen from one season to the next. It's entirely reasonable this offense gels under JC and becomes a top 5 scoring machine - all the parts are there. Likewise, the defense could rebound to a respectable unit, and that would mean more wins. How many more? I have no idea. I'm just hoping for a respectable season (9-7) or better, and I can't wait to see how it all plays out.
for me i will be a little excited as always but cautious at the sametime with this team.
i would like to see the defense make a statement and jason continue to show improvements....
get all three working solid together, defense, special teams, offense ..
record wise i aint sayin i,m hoping a push toward the playoffs....

I am hoping for 16-0. Do I think it is realistic? No. Is it possible? Yes. I just know I will be there for every game and be optimistic unless we are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. Other than that, Super Bowl XLII here we come!!!!!!

I agree with Chris...
I have very high expectations, and hope... but I feel like verbally expressing that too early causes bad luck for those guys!!!

I gotta go with the crowd here. I'm optimistic too! Everybody's healthy going in, it's thesecond year for "the" offense, GW's defense took a lickin last year and I just don't see that happening two years in a row. Let's face it...like other teams, we got riddled with key injuries to CP, SS, PP and Santana throughout the year among others and the cumulative impact was, well...we know the rest! Here's to hoping all that is behind us and JC steps up for us this year. 9-7 maybe with a wildcard bid?

Sorry to rain on your parade:
I will be happy with even the minimum winning record of 9 - 7. Anything else would be a bonus.
Ah! but when the Hognostications come, I will surely change my mind to predict a perfect season -and- perfect post-season for the first time since a 16 game season was established.

Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!
