The fall of Dallas

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

The fall of Dallas

Post by fistandantilus »

This link is a must read, I have been telling this to arrogant Cowboys fans the last year when I knew Parcells was leaving.
I posted this following article on Sportingnews.com, which btw us Redskins fans need to register for free. They have a fan count list and we are towards the bottom. There are not more fans anywhere then here in Washington DC, not to mention better.
But this below link and my comments should make all you Skins fans feel good about the future...

Well i am a season ticket holder to the Redskins and I think the cowboys have a good shot this year. But enjoy it while you can, because with Jerry Jones back in control of player personel, your window will be small. My stats can be found on all nfl websites. Just search between the years of Jimmie Johson & when Bill Parcells took over. You will see who you signed, who you drafted, and what your record was during those stints. (ok an inherited team did get B. Switzer a Super Bowl). Jerry Jones is as bad a GM as Dan Snyder is.

This link will show you how good he has "GM'ed" the team. From 99-01 u got one starter from the draft, Dat Nguyen ??? I can't wait, albiet it probly won't be this year or next, but your fall back to mediocracy has already started. Let the games begin. I've been telling people this already, I might as well share the knowledge with all who would find interest in this.

REGISTER at sporting news com .. i can't stand to see Redskins on the bottom tier of registered fans.. don't foget to pick who you love and we all know then which team(s) you hate .. take care all fans .. GO SKINS
heres the link of this story i posted there !

You don't think He and Jeff Ireland learned a thing or two about prospecting players while BP was around?

Can't really argue with this year's draft yet, albeit it is early.

Well history generally repeats itself and he had someone better at personell there before in Jimmie Johnson. I think the facts show he didn't learn much from him. I would say chances are hes not going to have learned enough this time either. I could be wrong, but I like my chances on my prediction of "back to mediocracy". Thanks for the comment

He needs to be the owner and let the coaches do their job

You mean, keep on going as he's been going the last seasons with BP around. If BP did anything, he left the the team better then he found and only after JJ game him the control to do so. The biggest benifactor to BPs scouting eye was Jeff Ireland.

BP left because Jerry kept sticking his nose in. I hope this truly is the fall for Dallas.

No, he left because he couldn't keep up with game anymore. Heck, the assistants had to water down the plays so he could understand it. Then when Sean Peyton laid out the blueprint in destroying his vanila defense, he threw in the towell.

He'd be a great General Manager as he had the eye for talent... most of the time.

Name one other player besides TO, that Jerry supposedly threw down BP's throat?

No, Drew Henson, was't one either. BP liked him at first and then saw that he wouldn't produce and cut him. JJ didn't even blink when he cut him..

The team has enough talent to win but they may lack the necessary intangibles.

The track record suggests that life without Parcells may be difficult for Dallas in 2007. This article provides a solid breakdown of Dallas for 2007:

YAP: The Dallas Cowboys
http://www.sportsmemo.com/handicappers/ted/blog/2460/

YAP= Year After Parcells. And history shows us that teams don’t usually get better once Bill Parcells leaves town …

When Bill Parcells walked away from the New York Giants following the 1990 season, the G-men were coming off a truly special year. New York went 13-3 during the regular season, their fifth 10+ win season in the previous six years. They won all three playoff games as well, earning a Super Bowl title when Scott Norwood’s kick went wide right for the Buffalo Bills. In the year following Parcells departure, Ray Handley coached the Giants to an 8-8 record. The following year, they were 6-10.

Bill Parcells walked away from the New England Patriots following a magical 1996 season. The Pats went 11-5, won a pair of playoff games, and gave Green Bay a real battle as two touchdown underdogs in the Super Bowl before falling short. In the year following Parcells departure, the Pats declined slightly, finishing the regular season with a 10-6 mark under Pete Carroll. That, too, declined the following year as well, as New England went 9-7

Bill Parcells walked away from the Jets following the 1999 campaign, after three successful seasons in New York. But the Jets only won one playoff game in those three years, and went just 8-8, failing to reach the playoffs in his final year at the helm. The Jets improved to 9-7 in the first year without him, with Al Groh as the head man, then 10-6 the next year under Herm Edwards

Last year, Dallas went 9-7, a botched field goal snap away from upsetting the defending NFC champion Seattle Seahawks in Seattle in the playoffs. For the third time in his coaching career, he left a team that had just made the playoffs. In both previous instances, the team declined in their first YAP.

The offseason talk in Dallas is all about potential. Owner Jerry Jones has been very public in his opinion that the Cowboys are primed for a Super Bowl run, and many media outlets have mirrored his optimism. I don’t. In my mind, the Cowboys have more question marks than sure things, and the vast majority of question marks are going to have to work out in their favor in order to make the postseason, let alone the Super Bowl.

Let’s start with the coaching staff. Wade Phillips is the antithesis of Parcells in the locker room, with a player friendly, laid back style. Unfortunately for Cowboys supporters, Phillips’ approach has not worked in either of his two previous stints as an NFL head coach, lasting only two years in Denver and three in Buffalo. He’s never won a playoff game, much like the Cowboys, a team that hasn’t won in the postseason since 1996. Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett is already the heir apparent for Phillips job, despite the fact that he’s never called a single play in a regular season NFL game. There will HAVE to be tension between Phillips and Garrett, given the situation, and Garrett is not someone I’d trust to call plays just yet. Bottom line: downgrade!

Tony Romo made a big splash on a national stage once Drew Bledsoe was mercifully benched. Romo went 5-1 in his first six starts, many of them national TV games. But once teams had film on the Cowboys inexperienced signal caller, Romo’s production tanked, and the Cowboys went 1-4 down the stretch, losing three of those games as home favorites. He’s no sure thing coming into 2007, that’s for sure. Throw in an aging (ancient?) receiving corps, and arguably the worst backup QB in the league (Brad Johnson, who had absolutely nothing left in the tank in Minnesota last year), and the Cowboys offense looks like a major question mark. It’s worth noting that Dallas hasn’t spent a first round draft choice on an offensive player since 1997!

The Dallas defense is just as question-filled as their offense. On the line, the Cowboys got very little out of former first rounder Marcus Spears and Chris Canty last year, a duo that combined for only 59 tackles and two sacks. LB Greg Ellis is coming off a torn ACL, with top draft pick Anthony Spencer (Purdue) expected to step right in to a starter’s role. LB Bobby Carpenter, another 1st rounder, was a major disappointment as a rookie last year. In the secondary, the Cowboys made a nice pickup with Ken Hamlin at safety, but they still haven’t found a cornerback to man the other side from Terrance Newman. Anthony Henry is clearly not the answer at that position. This defense may end up being quite good, but on paper, it reeks of mediocrity. The Cowboys ranked 20th in the NFL in points allowed last year; 24th against the pass.

So where does this leave us in our pre-preseason prognostication about the Cowboys? Right about where we were last year with this team, that’s where, with 20 of 22 starters returning. In 2006, Dallas was good, not great, compiling a 9-7 record before getting bounced out of the playoffs in the first round. Another nine win, Wild Card type season for the Cowboys seems well within reason, but it’s hard to picture a dramatic uptick that sees them win a dozen or more games, dominating the division.

No offense there fistandantilus, but I think your post/ blog are not accurate. You're basing them on data........on teams that Parcells fixed. You know, got to the superbowl or got competitive for the superbowl. Dallas hasn't been fixed yet. Parcells was lucky to finish with a winning season and he knew it, so he stepped down............I mean, think about it. I've never in my life seen another team kick an onside kick just to run up some more points!!! Thats what New Orleans did in Parcells last year. Sorry, but I just can't believe that team is fixed when something like that happens to them!

Don't get me wrong though. I agree with your post/ blog to the fact that Jerry Jones is an idiot! Anyone who passes up on Steven Jackson in the draft just to draft a little guy that plays the same position is dumb!!! Or anyone that trades two number one picks just for a fast reciever (Joey Galloway) is also dumb! Or getting a hard throwing baseball player to play your quarterback position................I could go on all day! So please don't get me wrong. I just don't agree with the "YAP" stuff. Thats all I'm saying.

Jerry Jones is still looking for other coaches. Wade Phillips is just a fill in until the next guy comes in. BP left because he is just getting older. Also is it really a coincidence that once T.O. came in he left not too much longer? I am 100 percent sure that if T.O. were not brought in then Parcells would have stayed at least two more years.
Sean Taylor starting free safety Heavens team!

i think we all began to see the real tony romo during the last seven games or so last season. i dont want to call his first few starts luck, because if you experience success success in the nfl there has to be talent somewhere deep inside of you, but bottomline i dont think romo has much of it. once defenses got film on him he looked like a below average qb. i can see romo completely falling apart this year and throwing 20 picks and the cowboys trading their first 2 round picks next year to get someone like brian brohm from louisville.
Beat the Cowboys!!
