ESPN O-Line Ranking

Post by SkinsHead56 »

7. Washington Redskins
The Redskins have one of the best tackle combinations in the league in Jon Jansen on the right side and Chris Samuels on the left. They are big parts of a unit that was one of only three in the NFL to give up fewer than 20 sacks (19) in 2006. At the same time, they were able to gain over 4.5 yards per carry and pile up the fourth-best overall rushing total (2,216 yards) in the league. With the highly respected Joe Bugel coaching the line, the players are starting to live up to expectations. They are not the heaviest line in the league, but they are athletic and do a great job of eliminating mistakes that can cause turnovers and losses. Center Casey Rabach has become the glue that holds the unit together and is just coming into his prime in his sixth season. Guard Randy Thomas is also in his prime.

UNDERRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just look at the numbers. We should easly be in the top 3. Colts are number 2 just cause they won SB

I partially agree, but look at the first part of my signature.

People are going to complain that we weren't ranked in the top 5 (or two) but the Skins got ranked in the top ten which is something...

I would have figured since we don't really have a left guard we would have ranked much lower, all it takes is one weak link.

Ok well I take that back about the Colts, they had fewest sacks in the NFL.

But, ok come on. Denver is 3rd with 31 sacks allowed and 4.4 yards per carry.

We had 19 allowed with 4.5 per carry!!!!!!

And Bengal are 5th with 36 allowed and 3.7 yards per carry.

WHY IS THAT BETTER THAN US.

I just don't get it.

Jansen, Randy Thomas and Cooley on the right side is a force to be reckoned with. Not to mention Sellers lead blocking. Our O-Line has to be at least the best in the NFC east. Say maybe the Iggles. I got to keep it real the eagles line is pretty darn good as well. I would have to say Minnesota has the best line in the NFC INHO.

really.....who cares about all this pre-season ranking mumbo jumbo??? i do admit that i am kind of scared about our left guard spot in the line. Not so much that i think we lost one of the best left guards in the league, but the fact that we have to place a guy in there who hasn't spent a signifigant amount of time w/the starting unit, not to mention T.Wade is attempting to fill that spot which he has never played in his pro carreer. the guy is probably the tallest guard in the league and it could cuase problems just for the simple fact that LOW MAN WINS.... we do have some depth on the line but once again no one has played w/the starting unit. to me the cohesion is the key!!!! I guess that if anyone can shape up someone new in a spot on the line it has to be Boss Hog himself (J.B.)

Pre-reason rank means nothing, but

Absolutely.

That's what Joe Gibbs thinks. That's why the Redskins won three SB's, a 4th NFC championship, and played in a 5th NFC championship.

i'm not sure how excited i can get about the stats. we were having some terrible pass protection problems for at least half the season, if i recall correctly. this didn't show up in the stats ("sacks") because of MB04's penchant to "throw it away" extremely quickly, or at least attempt a 2 foot pass equally quickly.

i'm not sure how much of the pass protection problems were the o-line's fault either, though- much of that might be attributable to the other team's D being able to practically play "11 guys in the box" and blitz most of them and have MB04 still not be willing/able to throw it past 10 yards.

they definitely appeared to be "clicking" toward the end of the season though, so i am encouraged by that. hoping for very good things this year, expecting nothing.

i think for some reason randy thomas is still very underrated and this is probably what brought our rating out of the top five.

This is Scouts Inc. they notice everyone ESPECIALLY Randy Thomas one of the better guards in the NFL.

It's the lack of left guards who cost us the top five.
