Dear All

I am soon to be 40 summers old and as a treat my wife has suggested I book my trip of a lifetime.

Obviously no trip of a lifetime would be complete without seeing the greatest team on earth playing. If I can sell this to my missus it will consist of..

Flying into Washington at Ronald Reagan Airport on 29th December. Then catching the Game against the cowboys.

On 31st December flying to Vegas from Dulles International.

I will be then returning to Washington at 7 in the morning before leaving for dear old blighty at 5pm.

I have a number of questions I need answering.

Ronald Reagan and Dulles seem to be on the same place on the map. Is it just me or are they next door to each other, the same airport. Are transfers easy.

Any suggestion on where to stay in Washington. I want to stay somewhere I can make the stadium and the airport(s) with ease.

What is public transport like from that location to the stadium and how much will it cost.

I notice on the Redskins site they are selling tix for the game. They seem to be obstructed views. I know its a mad question but how obstructed are the views. A 10,000 mile round trip to look at a stansion will not go down to well. Are there any other reputable places to buy tickets.

Being English and from the North I am a hardy soul. However I can imagine that it is very cold and wet at that time of the year. How cold and wet can I expect it to be. (is there much chance of Danny putting a rook on so my wifes hair doesnt get wet.

Are there any areas to avoid getting accomodation.

I wouldn't stay near the stadium. Stay some place down town. Where you can take in the sites (like the Capital mall and the Smithsonians)

http://www.wmata.com/metrorail/systemmap.cfm
you can take the blue line all the way to the stadium or the shorter route would be to take the yellow line to the blue and FedEx is about a 1/2 a mile from the Morgan Boulevard exit.

The fare will be between $2.35 to $3.15 depending on the time of day.

Metro is the best way of getting around DC and the people that work there are usually very helpfull.

I don't know of any public transportation to Dulles (I'm sure there is, but I don't know of it)

Here is an what the Dulles website says about transportation to Reagan:
Reagan National Airport
The Airports Authority does not provide a dedicated shuttle between the airports. Washington Flyer Taxi provides service between Dulles and Reagan National for an estimated fare of $50 (estimated travel time is 45-60 minutes). SuperShuttle shared ride van provides the same service for about $23 (estimated travel time is 45-75 minutes). Washington Flyer Coach provides service between Dulles and the West Falls Church Metro Station for $9. From there you can connect to Metro Rail.

I'd also advise looking at tickets on eBay and/or on StubHub ... frankly, that isn't going to save you a great deal of money but you can definitely do better in terms of location ... I've had some "obstructed view" seats before and my experience wasn't too bad, I had to lean forward for any plays past the 20 yard line at end-zone opposite from me but it wasn't terribly annoying. However (the inevitable however) I've also heard some stories of truly awful obstructed view seats. I'm fairly certain JansenFan and Niki have obstructed-view season tickets so they'd be better able to shed some light on that.
I'm envious of the Vegas portion of that trip, good god do I love that city.

Now looking at 2 nights in Washington, 4 in Vegas, then two more in Washington so I can see the sights. A friend of mine comes to Washington every year for International police Week.

Is there any bars that fans meet up in the night before the game, or afterwards in the city.

If I were you, I would fly into Reagan. It is closer to DC and it is a short walk to the nearest metro station. Dulles and Reagan are NOT the same airport. Dulles is quite a ways further out from DC. Reagan is in Arlington and is right next to DC.

I believe you can metro to and from the stadium but I believe it is a "nice" little walk.

As far as hotel, I do not know of one to recommend.

It is cold in December so dress warm so you don't freeze your knickers off! There is always a chance of snow in December.

Do yourself a favor and do not buy obstructed view seats. If it is a dream vacation, buy some seats between the 20yd lines on the lower level. It will cost more (especially a Cowboy vs Skins game) but hey, you only live once.

I am not sure what you are into but the national mall has museums, monuments, white house etc.... If I were you, the monument I would want to see the most is RFK stadium

Be sure on game day to visit the THN tent in the green lot for your tailgating experience. I have never been (other people last year were late getting to my house so I didn't get there in time) but I am sure it will be fun.

Enjoy your stay in America

As far as hotels go........during that time of the year you're looking at over $300 a night if you get a hotel in the city. And that is only for a room that has a pull out couch! If it is your dream vacation then I must say that ALL hotels in Washington are good, but to my knowledge, the Marriott is closest to the mall. The mall is where the capitol, washington monument, musuems are. Its also about 3 blocks from the white house. So if you have some time to see the city............that might be what you would want. But, you must know that DC WILL GET VERY WINDY AT THAT TIME OF THE YEAR!!! Even though the weather report says 30 degrees.......don't fool yourself, it will feel like negative 30. So dress warmly.

I wouldn't worry to much about dressing to warm for the game. Fed Ex Field packs darn near 100,000 people right next to each other and..............I know I know its not RFK, but it puts those 90,000+ people as close to the field as possible. In other words, its not that cold during games. Especially on the lower level.

If you want to get a hotel in the city I would fly into Reagan. The metro is just right across the street from the airport. Dulles is waaaaaaaaaay out there. I wouldn't do Dulles. But! If you want to stay in the suburbs I would fly into BWI and catch a cab to a hotel by the stadium. I don't know of any good ones in that area, but...........it is cheaper for a hotel in the suburbs.

As far as aquiring tickets..........If this is your first game and dream vacation. I would have to recommend on buying seats in the lower level. And definetly DON'T buy them in the obstructed view area. Alot of people prefer the middle of the field, but some prefer the end zone. So take your pick there, but I would recommend trying to get seats that are about row 17 or row 18. Because you're still VERY close to the field and you get a good perspective on it.

I hope that helps! And have fun!

For the record, the past couple of Decembers here have actually been relatively moderate but the weather isn't vastly different from St. Helens in December

The obstructed view weren't bad, but I ended up watching most of the game on the little TV's because it can be frustrating going back and forth. As many have stated, if I were only going to one game, and flying across the Atlantic Ocean to do so, I would look around for better seats.

I am looking to stay at Jurys hotel Washington on my first visit and Homewood Suites by Hilton on my second.

Wife didn't fancy vegas due to the poor flight times and length of time in the air. She wanted to go to New York. I told her it would be full of Giants fans. She just looked at me.

Just dotting the is and crossing ts. Am in negotiation for Tix. Getting very excited.

Keep your fingers crossed for me that all my bookings go according to plan and I will see you soon.
