The Redskins released four players from the roster on Wednesday, including practice squad defensive end Joe Sykes, and signed a pair of NFL Europa players in wide receiver Burl Toler and linebacker Matt Sinclair.

Linebacker Zach Latimer and defensive back Brandon Register, a pair of undrafted rookies, and wide receiver Cedric Bonner were the other Redskins released on Wednesday.

Sykes spent the 2006 season on the Redskins' practice squad. The team signed him to the active roster for the season finale against the New York Giants and he recorded one tackle in the Redskins' 34-28 loss.

Toler, 6-2 and 185 pounds, played for the Cologne Centurions in NFL Europa this spring. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the Oakland Raiders in May 2006,

Toler spent one week on the Raiders' practice squad during the 2006 season before he was released on Sept. 12.

Toler was a walk-on wide receiver at the University of California. As a senior, he led the Bears' offense in receptions, hauling in 61 passes for 795 yards.

Sinclair, 6-2 and 245 pounds, wrapped up his second consecutive season in NFL Europa this spring playing with the Frankfurt Galaxy.

Sinclair began his NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens in April 2005 as an undrafted rookie free agent. He was released by the Ravens prior to the 2005 regular season and later signed with the Miami Dolphins in January 2006.

Sinclair attended the University of Illinois, where he played in 45 games recording 278 tackles.

I kind of thought Sykes would stick around through training camp... they said some good things about him last year in camp...

I think with the emergence of this guy from UCLA, they don't have room and don't feel he's making the progressions he should have.
