It would help to determine if you are right or not by listing your political beliefs. If you have no political beliefs then you are probably correct in your assessment. Epimenides is the man that you're looking for. Famous in his own right, but quoted by St. Paul as well. That's a case of a learned Jew / Roman saying "all Cretans are liars. . ."

Also, I believe the derrogatory word "cretin" actually has its roots in 'Christian', and not 'Cretan'. Could be wrong, but I read it in a book once so it must be true.
