Stanley Cup Playoffs
Okay, this thread is long overdue, but with the Ducks clinching tonight are there any Senators fans out there?
I am really looking forward to seeing how Scotty and Pronger due against their #1 scoring line.

Go Ducks.
I'd rather see just about anyone on the planet win a Cup over Alfie and his Sens.
I'm even more bitter at Ottawa as they are my only blemish on an otherwise perfect playoff pool. I picked Buffalo because... well because I hate the Senators as much as I hate the Cowboys... maybe more.
I met Brian Burke (GM of the Ducks) in the press box at a Capitals game this year. He's kind of a 'mean-looking' guy but I walked up to him anyway and told him what a fantastic job he had done in Anaheim and how little I thought of the Vancouver Canucks for unceremoniously dumping him.
He was truly appreciative of the sentiment.
Brian Burke is probably the best GM in hockey - and it should really come as no surprise that the team he built has come so far, so quick. So again I say... Go Ducks. They're in real tough against a powerhouse Ottawa team, but that's just all the more reason to route for them.

Go HABS GO!
Are we out yet?
I feel that -most- Canadians will cheer for Ottawa as a matter of solidarity. Except for the fans of -that- other team in Ontario with its own announcers and national tv network.
I am looking for a great series, probably going to seven games. I could be very well wrong but I predict Anaheim in seven. Ottawa has a tradition of choking in the playoffs and they did not have a great first series in the playoffs. Having said so, this -might- be their year.

Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

Spoken like a man who bleeds a bit of blue and white along with that burgundy and gold.
Hey, you posted!!!!

Good to see man. I know you've been lurking for quite some time, but welcome to the land of posting!!!!
... and yes, my love of the Leafs blue and white (not to be confused with those colors of that team in Texas), does force me to hate the Sens a little... but really it's all about Alfie.

Now Mr. Murray, I'm going to guess that since you share the last name with the Sens coach, and I know that you ARE related in some way... that maybe you don't feel the same way despite living in Leafs country?
I'd just suggest looking to the other namesake Andy Murray.

Anyway.. great to see you finally post bro, welcome to the board officially, and I look forward to not having to wait a couple of years for your second post.

Oh yeah, and go Ducks go!

Solidarity?
55-60% of EVERY team is Canadian... I feel no need to cheer on a team just because it's Canadian-based. Calgary and Edmonton are the only other teams from Canada that I'll route for. The Canadians, the Canucks and the Senators can all be re-located to somewhere else thanks.

But you go ahead and cheer on a rival. I prefer my hatred to run a little deepr.

A lot is going to be gained from that first game. The Sens have had such a long layoff, that they may have lost some of the momentum that they had.
The Ducks better hope so, because even though I hate Ottawa... they're on fire in the playoffs. (Led by Alfie.

I'd jut love to see Brian Burke win the Cup and solidify the point that he is IMO, arguably the best general manager in ALL OF SPORTS.

Hey BossHog
Thanks for the welcome. I have been a long time lurker, infact much longer than your records show. Shelagh convinced me to register a couple of years ago. I am glad that I did, as I gained access to the smack forum - in which I have enjoyed some of the classic rebuttals ("fal-cun idiot" being my all time favorite). Although I am a big Redskins fan, I just don't have the knowledge base to post relevant stuff. I soak in what I can. Funny that my first post on THN is about hockey. No relation to any of the Murrays involved in the cup that I know of (does Shelagh know otherwise?). I am a Leafs fan, but certainly don't hate the Sens as much as I hate the Habs. However, I don't really care who wins. Looks like it will be a good series.

I think you might actually be related to him actually... at least Shelagh has always been under that impression. I'll ask her why or how she knows/thinks that.
I'm not really sure what makes you think your opinion on Redskins stuff wouldn't be relevant. This is a site for the fans... all views are relevant... though far fewer of them are actually informed.

Don't be shy now that you've let your hair down. Shelagh and I were just saying how much we want to come up and see you guys... I've been setting aside some Redskin trinkets for you and should really get them to you before we're both 100 years old.
And now you have two posts.

Come on man, at least wait until I log off ... ouch

Vintage sippy cup.

I guess we should hit the guy up for tickets if there is a relation. It is only 2.5 hours to Ottawa from Peterborough, and if you guys are looking to make a trip up this way... perfect oportunity. After all, what is a long lost relative for. I am sure the guy has met a few long lost relatives since he won a berth in the Stanley Cup finals.
I really don't think we are related. Shelagh is likley confusing this guy with Reg Higgs (her Mom's cousin) who was the assistant coach of the Flyers and Rangers under Ted Sator during the mid-eighties. I think he was also the head coach of the Sudbury Wolves, and the UWO Mustangs. Now I think he sell real estate
.
Anyhow, we would love to have you guys to Ptbo for a visit.

Just to follow up... Shelagh said she really doesn't know, but that she thought that there was a Murray. But she also conceded that it could very well have been Reg Higgs.
Of course... if you want to hit him up for some tickets under the guise of being a long-lost relative anyway, and worry about the validity of it all after the playoffs... I'd back you.

Now you have three posts... there's no turning back... and so it begins... oh the horror...

Hey man, you still gotta score to win the games.
Now I won't deny that Detriot probably out-played the Ducks for most of the series, but they never finished it.
Plus, it didn't us that we have probably one of the deepest benches in the NHL.
But like I said before, our defense is going to have to step up against Ottawa's #1 line because unlike Detriot, they probably will score if they have the oppertunity.

Boo ya, up 1-0.
I don't know if any of you guys watched the game, but you really should this is going to be a physical series.
I mean tonight there were enough big hits to keep anyone interested.
And I don't want to get cocky or anyting, but I think the Ducks are going to have a much easier time against Ottawa than they did agianst Detriot.
If our checking line of Niedermeyer, Moen and Sammy Pahlsson play like they did today for the rest of the series, I don't see us having much trouble with the Senators.
But hey, it's only game 1 of a 7 game series so we'll see what happens.

The Ducks were fortunate last night, but winning that first game is huge.
Still... the Sens looked exactly as you would expect them to after waiting in the wings so long to start this series... and they still nearly pulled it off.
It's going to be a tough series. One that I'll really, really enjoy watching Alfie and the Sens lose.
But there's no way I would say that the ducks will have an easier time with the Sens than they did with the Wings... Ottawa waited NINE days for last night's game... that's an eternity. They'll be a lot less rusty in game two.

True, but if our checking line can stop Ottawa's #1 line, I don't really see them being much of a threat.
Yes, rust probably played a factor but nontheless I see our persistant offense attacks wearing down the Ottawa defense and Ray Emery (who I thought looked almost scarred last night).
As long as we cut down on stupid penalties, I think we should be in good shape.

Hey R.I.C.
If, as your name suggests, you really are in Canada you can live stream the games, and watch archived games of any game from the playoffs that aired on the CBC on the CBC website.
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/stanleycup2007/streams/
If you are abroad, then maybe not. Usually they put geographic restrictions on these live stream things. Hope that helps.

Murray, I am working abroad at the moment.
You guys would laugh your heads off if you knew the range of sites I post from sometimes. I take a bush plane to travel deeper into the jungle early tomorrow morning and hopefully get the hell out before nightfall. All the gear is ready.
