Thanks,

I had forgotten that.

Bailey just thought he could get more as a free agent.

Was he right?

I still stay the whole he didn't want to be here thing started after they franchised him!

The team franchised him after he turned down the contract and while Champ obviously never tested free agency, he did sign a seven year, $63 million deal with Denver.

With $18mil signing bonus...thinks that may have had anything to do with him leaving?? Or was it he just didn't want to be a Skin??

I mean, I can't fault the guy for taking the extra $3.3 million but that, combined with his comments and attitude at the time tell me that he wanted out, no matter what. This is the Pierce thing redux, the player wanted more money and went elsewhere to get it, ipso facto, he did not want to be a Redskin.

I would tend to agree...It just bothers me that the organization didn't make a push to sign him a little earlier. I keep brining this up because I believe this regime it responsible for it. Champ is the poster child for why we need a GM. My fear is that the same thing will happen to ST. There is very little loyalty in the game today, players care more about the color green than the team colors they’re wearing.

OK I’m off to get help to try and “let it go” It’s hard…I still love my dead horses!

I'm going to kick it one more time: they offered him a contract the year before his first one expired, I just can't see how an argument can be made for the team waiting too long

Which make it his contract year, I'd have like to seen it done the year before his contract year. I believe had we made the same offer he may have signed???

If the skins didn't want him then why did they offer that contract at all. They would have worked out some kind of deal with denver some other way if possible.

At that point it would seem mutual that they both wanted the trade not just washington. Kind of like spings, Yes we want him here, but if a trade came that would be great. At the same time, if you look at Springs side of things, they already asked him to take a cut. If a trade happens with Springs, Springs would welcome it as much as the skins would at this point.

Did the Skins offer Bailey the deal before the Broncos?????????????????

That would answer a lot, if the Skins made him an offer and he still wanted more more money, then the Broncos offer came around. That would mean that it was Bailey that wanted the trade. Also, we need to compair the amount of money Bailey was making before the Skins offer. Because if he was getting a really good raise and he still wanted to shop, I would defenitly say Bailey wanted out.

IMO, Bailey wanted two things.

1. Money
2. A good organization.

He got both with the Bronco's, he felt he would have only had 1 of 2 with the Skins.

And really who could blame him? He only had the past to judge the direction the Skins were headed in and it wasn't looking good. He left towards the end of some of our most frenzied years and was simply tired of the bull.

I'm probably misreading you, but I can't agree with the idea that a player (speaking generally, not about Bailey in particular) who leaves for more money doesn't necessarily want to stay with his original team. Sometimes, a player just knows his current team can't/won't match what he can get on the open market. I seriously doubt Edgerrin James wanted to be a Cardinal more than a Colt, but he just knew that after Peyton, Marvin, and some of the other names got paid, there wasn't going to be enough left under the cap to give him what he thought he was worth.

Which part aren't you buying - that Denver is a good organization, or that Bailey wanted such a thing.

I think that was a big part of the issue...

At the time we had a billion coaches floating through here with 2 billion QB's, an owner firing players at a whim... This place was chaos and without my B&G tinted shades on and I understand and don't blame such a factor.

I believe that if we were the stable (thus far) franchise we are now with some consistency and potential to get where to the big dance he would have stayed.

Out of the 2 reasons I listed I do agree that money was the bigger issue to him.

Notice I was trying to not get in this converstion, too late now.

Does anyone else notice that in 05 this topic came up a lot less than now? Humm.... Wonder y

I think some of the whiners should go to a Broncos page and cry to them. They will let you cry on their shoulders, It makes them feel good.

Maybe we should rename the thread to "The Crying for Bailey Group"

Stupid me..I thought this was a message board where we discuss the Redskins.

CLL I agree I think the organization played a big part. Not only from a standpoint of stability..How about the $$$ DS was shelling out for retreads like Sanders,Smith,Carrier,George,Trotter,Armstead...etc.....

I also agree Portis was the reason we made it to the Playoffs. He basicly put us on his back and carried us there ,1300 and 1500 yds seasons holds the record for most rushing yds in a season .He had seven td's before he got hurt .I would have to go with CPbaby.

What? You mean you didn't enjoy Bruce Smith and his ability to not care about anything else except for breaking the sack record when he was on the Redskins? For shame....
