Urg, this team can't be completed...
Okay, on offense, yes... we have a solid unit
QB- Patrick Ramsey/Mark Brunell
HB- Clinton Portis/Ladell Betts
FB- Mike Sellers/Rock Cartwright
TE- Byron Chamberlain/Walter Rasby
WR- Laveranues Coles/James Thrash/Taylor Jacobs
WR- Rod Gardner/Darnerien McCants/Kevin Swane
LT- Chris Samuels
LG- Derrick Dockery/Kenyatta Jones
C- Corey Raymer/Lennie Friedman
RG- Randy Thomas/Dave Fiore
RT- Jon Jansen
We have a ton of offense and we're very solid on this side of the ball... I am confident in these guys scoring a lot of point for us... BUT
DE- Phillip Daniels/Ron Warner
DE- Reynaldo Wynn/Regan Upshaw
DT- Cornelius Griffin/Brandon Noble
DT- Jermaine Haley/Joe Salave'a
LB- LaVar Arrington
LB- Kevin Mitchell
LB- Marcus Washington
CB- Shawn Springs/Ralph Brown
CB- Fred Smoot/Walt Harris
S- Ifeanyi Ohalete
S- Matt Bowen
Not that much real depth on the defensive side, and... not that much skill either... there's a couple good, but older players out there (Bratzke, Barrow, Hand...) but how do you see fixing this problem? Through trades with Gardner and Trotter? Signing vets? Draft?

I don't know how you can say their isn't that much skill on defense.
Line= Daniels can play tackle, which means both Wynn and Upshaw would be the ends. We still haven't had the draft, and we'll get a d-line prospect their. After June 1st we'll try to add a low price, low key vet.
LB= If Trotter goes were farting through silk. If he stays, we're still one of the top five best units in the league. Our outside guys are freaks, and K-Mitch in the middle is a consament professional.
DB= Our starting corner's are both number one calliber, helping us to have one of the top tandems in all the NFL. Matt Bowen and Ify both had over 80 tackles last season, both picked off 3 or more passes, and made big plays. Lavar has said many times that the two safety's are our top laymakers. Last season after the Falcons game, "When we really need somehting IFY or Matt make it happen."
The depth is their, it's just not nearly as good as our offensive depth. Then again, not much is.

I agree with ya rs56... I think if we pick up Wilfork/Starks in the draft we have 2 good DTs in Griffin and whoever. If we get Smith/Udeze in the draft we have two good ends in Daniels/Smith/Udeze. We'll also be able to pick up some depth if we make a trade or two - people forget that Russell is a second rounder with potential - but we were too deep to get a chance to see it last year.
It's possible we could get some gems for the line in the later rounds... I just wanna see Wilfork/Starks and Griffin next to each other
Check yer PMs by the way

we aren't that far off. i feel very comfortable with our secondary, and LB's. i think we'll trade up a few spots(maybe houston) and go after a lineman in the draft. but i can live with what we've got. last year people were bitchin about having overpriced guys that didn't play to their potential and blowing assignments. now people are unhappy that there aren't enough high priced babies on the defense......damned if you do, damned if you don't....

At this rate - we'll be an expansion team by September!
Who's next for the add/subtract list?
To date, we've added twelve new Skins who weren't with the team last year but are certain to make the roster for 2004. And we've cut/traded nine who were on the roster at the end of the season last year.
Adds:
On Defense - Griffin, Daniels - D-Line
Brown, Harris, Springs - D-Backfield
Washington - LB
On Offense - Raymer - O-Line
Rasby - TE
Brunell - QB
Portis - RB
Thrash - WR
And Tupa on special teams.
Substractions:
On Defense - Bailey - CB
Dalton, Chase, Russell, Smith - D-Line
Trotter, Armstead - LB
On Offense - Bryan Johnson - FB/HB
Patrick Johnson - WR
Even WITHOUT the upcomming draft and possible roster additions after teams purge players after June 1st for cap reasons - there are at least three players who were on the roster last year that are still likely to be cut/traded.
My guess is that Moore, Fiore, and Candidate are the most likely to meet that reality.
I gotta admit, when I heard Gibbs was coming back, the first thing I thought was that he'd put an end to all of Mr. Snyder's insane off-season spending . . . wicked wrong there!

i think you'll notice a big change next offseason. right now, joe is just cutting the fat off the meat, adding a few players, trying to mold the team into his image as quickly as possible. next year, i think there'll be less to do in the offseason. we'll all be moaning about how boring the offseason is, given what we're accustomed to! although, perhaps if the offseason were a tad bit shorter.....(i'm talking playoffs here).
'wicked'....heh heh. you from newinglin area?

You're partially right in your thinking...but I think (
)that there is more to it than that. I think, as I'm sure others would/will agree that Gibbs is "weeding" out flounders and non-hackers and creating HIS organization. I would look for this type of money tossing/player hopping to slow down tremendously as Gibbs develops his core unit over the next few years. Then, maybe only then will we have our first "quiet" offseason since the millenium. It wouldn't hurt my feelings a bit to know that the same group of players are returning to the field the next season...as long as they are "Gibb's type of players." The good thing with Gibbs is that you don't need superstars all over the field to win championships. Just sprinkle in a few here and there with a bunch of hard working guys and good coaching. Let the rest take care of itself.

I agree with ya 100% skinz74. I would much rather have a team filled with blue collar hard working guys willing to give 110% each game than a lot of "look at me" high profile expensive players who think they don't have to work as hard because of their perception that they are naturally talented.

I agree with you guys that once Gibbs gets his guys on the roster, things will slow down.
But I bet-ya' that we haven't seen the end of the purge - which is cool with me. I'd hate to be a fan of any other team right now - what are they talking about? What their draft needs are? Dullsville! That's just a drop in our bucket.
And one other note - we haven't seen much fiddlin' with the O-line beside the addition of Raymer. How ironic is it that the WEAKEST part of the team under Spurrier's leadership (all those sacks, no 1000 yard rusher, false start flags, and yada-yada) is the one area on the team that's pretty much going to stay as-was going into next year.
(I picked up 'wicked' from a boston pal and never dropped it cause it's sorta wicked ya' know)

On the nose! Last year our defense played entirely too much in games due to the inefficiency of the fun-n-gun, and the "coachin' up" was horrible. Glad to see both those problems have been nipped in the bud.
Our defense will be solid. After all, from the marketing blitz, LAVAR CAN DO IT ALL!!!!!

Back and better than ever!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. Trotter was not the D-fense! Yes he made the most tackles...but he was out of position alot of times also. I'm sure Gibbs wants people who can be where they need to be. Plus we are paying him so much money. I have nothing against him, but the LB's we picked up have been great players to at a much lower cost and probubly do not blow assignments. The team has depth. they were just coached wrong for the pro system. plus Spurier cared more about the offense and getting it to score. The D-fense coach was simply trying to keep the same defense, but ended up allowing the players to dictate how they wanted to be used(ie Lavar). This new coach I'm sure will not tolerate this. You simply can't just run up field. There has to be tricks and stunts and fake blitzes to throw off the offense so they don't know whats coming. We did not have this before. We had a simple "go after the QB."

I think Carolina proved that in a 4-3 scheme that you need four good ones up front. LBs are overrated in their packages.

Huh? We blitz alot with the best Trio LB in the league and it did nothing for us. It maybe the scheme, though.
