Packers | Favre asked to be traded before the draft Sun, 13 May 2007 09:08:18 -0700
Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre's agent, Bus Cook, phoned general manager Ted Thompson within two to three days of the draft and asked for a trade, according to several team and league sources. The sources said Cook railed off how his client was fed up with the organization and wanted out. Head coach Mike McCarthy tried phoning Favre, but the quarterback ignored all off his calls for a week. The two finally connected in the middle of this past week, and sources close to the situation said Favre asked McCarthy if he was aware that Cook asked for a trade. McCarthy immediately insisted that would not happen. McCarthy told others inside the organization he had cooled Favre's anger. By the end of the conversation, Favre admitted he did not want to go elsewhere. However, Favre has told friends on other teams he is frustrated with the organization's failure to acquire WR Randy Moss, who was traded to the New England Patriots.
Packers | Favre criticizes organization for missing out on R. Moss Sun, 13 May 2007 07:10:27 -0700
Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre criticized the organization for failing to acquire WR Randy Moss, who was traded during the 2007 NFL Draft to the New England Patriots. "The last thing I want to do is start anything, but I think he would have been a great addition. You throw Randy Moss, you throw [WR] Donald Driver and you throw [WR] Greg Jennings on the field at the same time, and go three-wide receiver set, I think it's pretty intimidating. And we lost out on that, and it's a shame because I know we could have had him," Favre said to Memphis, Tenn., television station WMC-TV Saturday, May 12.
The man who may have the biggest name in Green Bay sports history has asked to be traded.
Several Packers and league sources have told FOXSports.com that Brett Favre's agent Bus Cook phoned Green Bay's general manager Ted Thompson within two to three days of the draft and asked for a trade. The sources said that Cook railed off how his client was fed up with the organization and wanted out.
The shocking request appeared directly related to the team's inability to trade for WR Randy Moss.
The news was then relayed to head coach Mike McCarthy, who immediately phoned the Super Bowl winning quarterback to squash his anger. However, the quarterback ignored all his calls for a week, perhaps showing the team how upset he was this time.
Finally, in the middle of this past week the two finally connected. Sources close to the situation said Favre asked McCarthy if he was aware that Cook asked for a trade but McCarthy immediately insisted that would not happen. McCarthy told others inside the organization it appeared the team's head coach had cooled Favre's anger and by the end of the conversation admitted he didn't want to go elsewhere. However, at the same time he has told friends on other teams as well how frustrated he is with the organization's inability to land the former Pro Bowl wideout and that he, in fact, wanted out.
Funny, Favre is pissed that the Packers FO doesn't spend enough money and is not aggressive in free agency, all while having plenty of cap space to do so. He wants proven talent around him yet the FO is notorious for being cheap and refuses to upgrade the team through free agency, even when the face of the franchise is in favor of it. Brett is now demanding to be traded because he is disgusted by the why the Packers FO does things and their out-of-date approach to free agency, as a way to ultimately upgrade the team.
I don't want this to turn into a draft vs. free agency debate, we've been around that block numerous times already. I've never liked Vinny and agree that they've made some bad moves, but I'd rather take Snyder's approach towards free agency, even with a few mistakes, over theirs any day. Teams like the 9'ers, Pats and the Broncos are all evolving into the era of free agency, as free agency is now a realistic option for teams to acquire players, and Brett simply wants the Packers to keep pace. I agree with his frustration. Redskin fans everywhere would be screaming if our owner didn't spend money to upgrade the level of talent on this team.
Just listening to a press release from Favre and he now states that the media were not correct in "reporting" that he had requested to be traded. He is due to make $11M and as he and his agent point out there is no way someone will trade for him and he's not about to take a pay cut.
He says this "report" has been "distorted" - He indicates that he will finish his playing career as a Packer
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

There's a fan out there that'd want him to start because he'd take us to the super bowl.
I have alot of respect for Favre. However I would say that he has 1-2 years left and there is no way that they Redskins would pick up Favre and start him over Campbell. The Redskins have invested alot in Campbell and they need to see what they have in him before trading away a draft pick or anything else on someone that will last no more then 2 years.
If he took a pay cut and was traded; imagine what a dream scenario that would be for teams like minnesota or the Raiders, who have qb's they like but aren't fully confident in yet
On the eighth day God created Sean Taylor- and he was good.
Now I'm all for "blaming" the media for outlandish "reporting" but I think we have to give credit where credit is due and this whole thing smells worse than a "rotten catfish" in LA or a bad "trout fish" out of the lakes.
This guy thinks his "stuff" doesn't stink - what a shame
