Scientology

I guess this may have got some airplay on your side of the pond as well. It's a pretty poor exhibition from a professional journalist, but I have to believe that this guy was driven beyond the limit by something, and it wasn't because he was having a bad hair day.

But this clip is really just a side issue, a little device to introduce today's deep and meaningful subject of conversation so, you decide - are scientologists normal?

Before I answer, can you define "normal"? :)

Hmmm - probably not :)

Poorly worded question - how about: is scientology acceptable?

Or we could just answer the question in the poll!

Well, can you at least define accep. . .ah, never mind. I'll choose 'Who cares?', although I personally find the religion rather odd.

And if someone who has studied religion and religious history in depth believes it's rather odd, then I have to agree!!!

A lot of even more learned people think that what I believe is odd, though. . .take what I say for what it's worth, I suppose.

Most of my association with Scientology comes mostly through Tom Cruise and Wikipedia. . .and a South Park episode. I don't know if I'd call that a fair trial. . .

That south park episode was the result of extensive under cover research by Matt and Trey.

I have to admit that I know very little about the religion. I agree with Irn-Bru though, the religion and some of its members do seem a little odd. Then again, I believe certain aspects of ALL religions are somewhat odd.

Many years ago my mother mailed to me a clip from a newspaper article entitled "12 things it took me 50 years to learn." #3 on the list caught my attention and I think about it quite often...

It reads . . . "People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them."

What I know of Scientology is that it is a gag, a farce, a work of fiction made up by a fictional writer. L Ron Hubbert made up "this pretend religion" to sale books. He even said that it wasn't real.

Yeah - it doesn't make any more sense to me than following the works of Tolkien and pronouncing Aragorn as the one true king...

Maybe I'm too quick to judge, but I generally prefer to assume that people are crazy until/unless they prove to me otherwise.

Further, he is on record as saying if he ever wanted to make real money, he'd start a religion. His own son says the man was nuts.

Whoah, slow down ... are you saying Aragorn is NOT the true king? Oh my gosh, I had this feeling I was still in the running

Lordy - you're not Aragorn's long lost sister Wendy, are you?

Very useful phrase that. I'm fairly sure that it works in Welsh too.

Semi irrelevant but Tom Cruise is an absolute retard, a dumb idiot retard. He claimed to be devout and then couldn't even explain many beliefs he has, and then claimed to be more knowledgeable about medecine than a Doctor with a PHD. thats when i vowed to never look at his face again
On the eighth day God created Sean Taylor- and he was good.

Travolta was recently crying about a BBC report that tried investigating Scientology and ended up having Scientologist following them around and intimidating them.
