Brown staying put?
<May. 12> Don't expect Alex Brown to be traded to the Redskins any time soon, ESPN.com's John Clayton reports. The Redskins are looking for a pass rusher and might have to make a trade to get one, while Brown could be had in a trade because he wants a new contract and the team isn't close to giving him a new deal.

However, it will probably cost a team a first-day draft choice to get Brown, and the Redskins aren't willing to give up that much. Relations between the Bears and Redskins have cooled since the Lance Brigg trade fell apart the night before the draft.

I think the addition of Alex Brown to our roster would be an upgrade but to give up a first day pick for him is a bit much especially being that everyone in the league knows that that the bears have an array of defensive lineman and the fact that he will be a June 1st cut is only a matter of time.

Its seems to me that there are a number of servicable D-linemen available, or who will become available post June 1.

I believe the smart move would be to sign a few blue collar, affordable guys who can be rotated in, keeping our guys like Phillos, Carter, Griffen, etc....FRESH.

Also, I think the big question this offseason is about our pass rush. But I believe the bigger problem was run D. With a better LB lineup, I think run support will force more throwing situations, giving our pass rushers a better chance.

Getting Holdman would of there is an instant upgrade with whoever replaces him...Lemar or Rocky. Then you take Lemars gig and put London in there.....and if Marcus isn't 100%, you still have the guy who didn't win the other OLB gig. That's depth baby. If in a pinch you need a backup MLB to step in, you have Lemar who's been doing it. Or even Blades if he is ready (I doubt it).

Either way, I think the Skins would be foolish to trade for any position right now.

We can play wait and see. June 1st is quickly approaching. Let's face it, D-lineman can pick up their part of the system pretty easily so a late edition is just as good as an early one.

Not a big Alex Brown fan. I agree with the issue on our run D last year. And the wait and see approach on getting another D lineman. Alot can change with the other teams. Holdman was a joke. I think Rocky's going to have a breakout season!

P.S. Blades was a steal!

I hope Blades was a steal. I don't think effort will be a problem with him. Hopefully his size being similiar to London's will give him a chance to see how a shorter MLB can do really well in the NFL.

yeah blades was definitely a bigtime steal, guys like him who have one certain thing like height, weight, speed, ect. that scouts knock them for are often the bigtime sleepers, because in the end all that matters is can you play
On the eighth day God created Sean Taylor- and he was good.

I hope some how we can get him but not for a first day pick,I see him as a 4th rounder but we dont have one thanx to our overexaggerating coachin staff (TJ Duckett) Him and Sam Rayburn would be big.

I think that if we are going to sign anybody, it is not going to be a long term deal which is what most players want. I think we should take a guy that has experience but, also has something to prove and sign him to a one year deal while our guys keep developing, while in the rotation though.

Could be an upgrade but might not be that much of one. I'm hoping he just had a bad year but it seemed like last year he started on the downslope after peaking.

An upgrade in age but if this guy is done he definetly is not an upgrade. Another year with Daniels if he stays healthy will have to do. i dont see this deal getting done.

No more guys who want off their current team. We need to develop our own, and find gems of guys who have been released. Free agency should be used for blue collar depth and the key guy once every once in awhile.

Its not so much that he wants to leave but more that they that OGun, just drafted a guy named Bazuin, and another guy. He is the odd man out who is talented. I think that he may be a june 1 cut so I don't think we need to trade for him but we should bring him in to see what we can put together. He's not done.

Brown staying put?
<May. 18> Don't bet the house, at least not yet, that Brown will be wearing a new uniform in 2007, writes Len Pasquarelli. Even though the Bears feel they now have two excellent young weakside pass rushers in second-year end Mark Anderson (12 sacks in 2006) and rookie second-rounder Dan Bazuin of Central Michigan (35 career sacks in college), they aren't just going to surrender Brown in a giveaway deal.

And even though he is curious about his market value, Brown isn't inclined to just go anywhere. A solid two-way defender, the former University of Florida star has never really developed into the weakside pass rusher many felt he would be at the NFL level, so it's debatable what he might be worth to another team. To agree to a trade, he would likely want a new contract. Unless a lot of circumstances fall into place, chances are Brown will still be with the defending NFC champions when the season starts.

By the way, under the column "Interested" it list the Washington Redskins but what does Pastabelly know, right?

Like the guy said when he fell out of the skyscaper "so far so good" - I am reasonably pleased with how our FO guys have done this off-season especially that we still have those 3 first day picks - "so far so good" - I hope we can help ourselves without trading draft picks - we will not be a Super Bowl certainty but we are definetly going to have a much better record than last season.

The difference between the top 10 teams and the next 5 is not all that great and I do believe we will be at least better than more than half the league.

I look for steady improvement this year and then if Campbell is going to be the "star" that many here predict - he should be ready to go deep into the playoffs next season.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I dont want him if we have to give up a first rounder. Why not just draft a Defensive End with our first round pick next year?

WIth the pieces we have on defense so far next years draft could put us over the top. I see blades starting in the middle for years to come. Landry and Taylor roaming left and right field. Next year we can draft a young Defensive End Stud.

I am telling you guys we dont need to get this Alex Brown. If we dont have to give up a first rounder then I am for it. I say we give up a sixth round pick for him. Just like they did to us for Archuletta. Thats it no higher than a sixth.

We can draft our own studs. Just be patient. I see us making a comeback statement this year. After the draft next year we will be contending for the SuperBowl.
Sean Taylor starting free safety Heavens team!
