How is Chamberlain?

Post by Skinsfan55 »

I heard a rumor that he came into camp overweight, anyone else hear anything? He's kind of short for a TE, he should be working real hard so he can start...

Also, did we release Zeron Flemister? I think he has great potential

Byron Chamberlain was a Pro-Bowl TE a couple years ago.

He tested positive for the weight loss drug Ephedra and was suspended for the first 4 games last season....after the suspension he showed up at Vikings park fat, overweight....so Mike Tice cut him.

The Skins picked him up since Robert Royal got hurt, and Spurrier has just cut Flemister.

So....Chamberlain was a need, we were desparate...and we are hoping he can return to his Pro-Bowl form.
He didn't last season, so Spurrier brought back Flemister to finish out the season as a UFA.

He has skills, but it appears Ephedra was the only thing that kept him in shape. I heard he was 260 lbs at mini camp...not good. Just picture Warren Sapp doing his TD dance...that is close to what Byron would look like :)

Flemister is gone...UFA
Our active TE's now are:
Rasby
Chamberlain
Royal
Ware
Leonard Stephens (NFL Europe)

Spurrier cut Flemister, but we signed him again days later when Royal got hurt.

I know Chamberlain has the skills, his hands are like glue... but he's short and getting fat... did we cut Flemister again? Maybe Zeron can step it up, he has great size

Coach just needs to keep him with the wideouts and not the O-line at dinner time. Can you say SALAD.

It don't matter how good your hands are if you can't get to the ball. Let's hope he get's in shape.

Nunyo Demasio said in a Wash Post chat that Chamberlain came in looking like like a defensive lineman. I think that guy is going to get cut. He seems totally uninterested in getting into any kind of playing shape.

I think we're looking at Rasby and Royal as TEs and Ware and Sellers as H-backs. Maybe a free agent rookie in the mix.

I really think Kellen Winslow, Jr. will be our TE or H-back in 2004

Sean Taylor had a bad work out and Gibbs coached Kellen Winslow, Sr. @ San Diego.

Plus, H-back is SOOOOO important to Gibbs' offense, taking Winslow in the draft would fill a need more than Taylor since Iffy and Bowen are good respectable players (not to mention they will be under Greg Williams defense).

The one thing that I want to comment on is someone saying that Flemister has hands like glue. I seem to remember him not being able to catch a freakin cold last year. IMHO the guy flat out sucks!

I said Chamberlain has hands like glue...

Anyway, Flemister has a lot of potential he's big (6-5 250), and he's only 27... I think he could be a solid TE with some work from Gibbs et. al.

If he gets in there with the trainers and joins Weight Watchers, he can probably sign an endorsement and also loose some weight. Wish i didnt have to pay for my gym membership every month. I would live right across the street and be at Rskins park daily like lavar. Thats who he needs to be hangin with.

At this point Flemister is not on an NFL team.
He might be out of the league, unless a TE gets hurt during training camp somewhere.

Maybe Marty will pick him up since FLemister was one of Marty's guys....

Come on now guys...fat players need love too! -drinking

Seriously I don't care if a TE looks like Sapp or not as long as he can play! If he can't, cut him. If he can, jiggle it baby!

Chamberlain said that he was in as good of shape as anyone at mini camp despite coming in at 250...275... something like that.

Also, at a game in which he was inactive, he was spotted buying a hot dog at half time.  Man, I knew that guy in front of me in line looked familiar! (Rim Shot!)

I read in a WP article that Gibbs' has started a 12 week conditioning program starting today. Maybe that'll get Chamberlain into shape?

Hey! I just saw this cool photo of Chamberlain walking off the field at the last mini-camp after practice. He must have been hot because he wasn't wearing his jersey!

Here it is:
