I cannot believe all of you doubters and naysayers on this pick...
This is truly the best pick at 6 that anyone could ever imagine. You all are probably the same fans who wanted the SKINS to draft Mike Williams a couple of years ago or Kellen Winslow Jr., over Sean Taylor. I think I trust the people in charge and our head coach to judge talent and what or who would fit in for our ball club.

1inkster said it best..."this is a good pick". Landry is a true beast and will help to form one of the best defensive backfields in history. Many of you all will reap the benefits of this pick and jump on this moving bandwagon when you see him light up opposing defenders or intercept passes at will. You all heard all week long about how our coach, owner and Cerrato state that we would NOT draft on need, but on the best available player. Landry is clearly the best defensive player in the draft. Obviously, our FO was not impressed with any of the defensive tackles or ends to pick at that spot. I personally liked Jamaal Anderson, but even he was not a better pick than that of Landry at that spot. Plus no player is a guarantee anyway...there were fans on this board screaming for us to pick or draft Eramus James or Kenechi Udeze a couple of years back and those two are bubbling busts! Landry is a safe pick and a very good one at that. Besides, you all also heard all week at how Coach Gibbs stated that he was very satisfied and excited about our football team, especially at every position. We are a markedly better defense already with the acquisitions of Fletcher, Macklin, Smoot and Stoutmire (2 prior Redskins), a healthy Springs (who is still a top/elite corner in this league), an impressive Andre Carter, a third year experienced corner in the former Jim Thorpe Award winner, Carlos Rogers, a healthy safety/corner in P.P. And then you throw in Landry who will be devastating in the blitz packages or disguised coverages.

Goldston and Montgomery, are stronger and better, and we will have better attacking ways to generate any type of rush imaginable that includes our fast, attacking LB, McIntosh. Perhaps we will pick up LaVar and that will conclude the making of a number one defense or top three again.

What do you say to the fact that Landry played hardly at all in both his junior and senior years. How can a guy who has at best limited college experience, a history of injury, and horrible stats for the last two years possibly be regarded as a logical or safe pick?

Youn never know. They might start Laundry. But lets have confidence in Joe Gibbs and stop being critical.

Landry will not start. GW will not allow a rookie to start opening day if anything for the simple fact that he wants to humble the player.

He probably won't start until week 3-4, however, we wont be able to tell. He will likely get into games. GW likes to think that his rookies need to progress with their reps...i.e. 10 reps, 15 reps, 18, 20...starting....So while he may not start...I have a hard time believing that he's not in our Nickle and Dime Packages and also some exotic blitz schemes.

I can't wait. This guy is the real deal. I hate to throw the Ronnie Lott name out there, but he's like a cross between Ed Reed and Brian Dawkins in my opinion...but he's a tad bigger than both....its really scary what this guy can do.

I think the pick is the result of not being satisfied with the offers on the table to trade down... in other words, they refused to give the pick away for less than it was worth. The result was selecting the best player availible...

We all were on the same page, even the Front Office. EVERYBODY would have preferred if we could have TRADED DOWN. However, in the absence of an attractive offer, we had to make this pick. Laron Landry was probably the best defensive player available at that spot. It was the SAFEST pick. Only time will tell whether Okoye would have been better for us BUT to be fair, we know that he was in our radar screen at THIS pick and it was a tough choice between both of them in the War Room.

I will just go on record as saying that Landry himself was a great college player and he should definitely be a great addition to our secondary.

The reason I don't like us picking him is because I felt we had more pressing needs than safety.

I think we all agree. D line is more urgent. The problem is, the team did not feel that the availible defensive linemen were worth the number 6 pick... so, they took the best defensive player on the board.

However, when the middle of the field on the defensive side of the ball becomes a no-man's land for opposing receivers, I think that may take some of the sting away. Have you seen Landry on a blitz? Scarey!

I also heard JG say a few days ago that he feels the D-line problem will be fixed. His interview 2 days ago basically told us that they were likely to take Landry, and that the D-line will be fixed. While this raises my eyebrow in some doubt, I think I will wait a bit to get frustrated...
The FO is showing a new discipline... I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

Good advice for all of us. Sure, some of us wanted D-line, but the selection of Landry also addresses a need, and the d-line might still be fine this season, with some of the veterans healed up and younger guys like Golston and Montgomery coming on. Plus, Carter seemed to really pick up at the end of last season, so he may turn into the pass-rushing end we expected him to be when we signed him. Finally, we still have 4 more picks, so who knows - maybe we'll actually get some good luck for a change and find a stud in the late rounds. Chicago found a guy in the 5th round last year (Mark Anderson out of Alabama) who got 12 sacks his rookie year, so maybe we'll come up with a guy like that as well. You never know . . .

Also, a safety really can impact how a whole defense plays. Remember the difference last year in the Colts defense when Bob Sanders was injured, and when he was playing in the playoffs?

Transformed that whole defense.

I was on record with Okoye 1st, Landry 2nd, but I'm happy with the pick.

I've watched a lot of LSU games over the last few years and this guy is a complete stud! The DC faithful will be proud when he takes the field.

I am thrilled with the Landry pick. Taking the best player available is always the smartest move. My first choice would have been to trade down, but if you can't get a trading partner or equal value you take the best player.

Sean Taylor and LaRon Landry shall be known as Fire and Brimstone.

I would argue that the receivers on the other team will be known as fire and brimstone, because the safeties are gonna get BURNED. No Defensive Ends and two safeties that can't cover. Qb's dream. Just imagine a healthy Griff and Golston,Salavea. That will shore up the hole that was our Defensive line last year.

With two defensive Ball Hawks roaming the defensive secondary this will bring a confidence to this defense. Trust.

All though I was hoping for trade down and I am Sure Gibbs explored the possibilitie overall I am happy with this pick. Laron is a stud in coverage and against the run. What more can you ask for?

We still have time to pick up some more defensive line help. All is well you will see.

Hey, I like most think we needed DL help (and still do - I don't care what JG says), but Landry appears to be a stud and Safety was the next biggest area of need for this D.

It looks like our back 7 is pretty stout! Springs healthy, Smoot an Mcklin as backups are a lot better than Kenny Wright and that other guy.

A stud MLB (a little old, but still a stud), Marshall or Rockey are deffinate upgrades over Holdman.

Now for the Sean Taylor can't cover non-sense. No one on this boars would have said that before last year. I think the D got into a funk with all the injuries early on and everyone started trying to do too much (ST most of all) and some times when you try to do too much you don't do anything.

The best Defensive player in the draft can't cover? Where the heck did that come from? I heard one of the idiots during draft coverage on that 4 letter network say that and I could find that in any scotting report, so where did it come from?

The optimistic way to look at it is we have on paper one of, if not the most, talented secondary in the NFL and that we added a stud MLB to our front 7 that should be considerably improved this year assuming everyone is healthy.

The pessimistic way to look at is that we still don't have any substantial pass rush, we are thin at DT, Rogers struggled all season, Springs is coming off an injury, and our safeties are a rookie and a guy who struggled to cover last season.

Only time will tell which viewpoint is correct, but I sure hope it's the former.
