NFL | Owners Feel Unshared Revenue Puts Small Markets At Disadvantage - from www.KFFL.com
Tue, 30 Mar 2004 08:24:45 -0800

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports several NFL owners said Monday, March 29, they fear small-market teams might soon be at a competitive disadvantage similar to the economic difference in Major League Baseball. There is a growing concern among owners - both of small- and big-market teams - that rapid growth in unshared revenue will give large-market teams such as the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys a significant edge. Profits generated by luxury suite tickets, club seats, and local radio rights, advertising, sponsorships, parking and concessions all fall under in the unshared revenue category. Those revenues in Washington and Dallas count as total league revenues, which help determine the salary cap number. The more revenues Dallas and Washington generate, the higher the cap figure the small market teams must pay.

Perhaps, like Lavar, the owners should know the details of the arrangements they agree to. It's not our fault that other owners are too cheap to put together a team with a chance of winning. A winning team puts fannies in the seats. Just ask the Panthers.

Maaaan, the NFL revenue sharing is already Socialist at it's core, this is the small markets with "suite envy", Bill Polian or whoever can only sell his luxury boxes in Indy for 70k a year when big market boxes go for 200k, oh cry me a Manning. He still pulling it in hand over fist. The only time this problem should be addressed is when a NFL franchise's net worth is lower than the cap, then do a revenue sharing bailout. Otherwise, be happy with what you got, no other major sports league is sharing loot on the scale they are...go work on instant replay and adding playoff teams and stop wasting time being upset over how you took your hundreds of millions and invested in a small market...

PS: You owners ain't fooling us, whenAl Davis sued the league and had y'all books disclosed, we saw how much y'all caking it. If ya wanna share some 'nue, how bout ya only pay TagliaBOO a mil a year, and split up the other 8? Dude makes 9 mil a year to tell cats to 'stop celebrating'... :?

On the other hand, no other major sports league shares the success of the NFL right now.

That's my point exactly General...the NHL bout to lockout cuz they got franchises running 'in the red', the Yankees payroll is more than the bottom three teams (in payroll) combined, and the NBA is just starting to 'get it right' with their luxury tax (sort of) to balance things out. But this move by the small market owners is like a McDonalds on the 'run-down' side of town asking the Mickey D's downtown to share their profits cuz they sold more fries last week. The owners all put in their set amount, they all receive their set amount. Unless they're gonna have national radio deals and sponsorships, then why would they share that money? When some foolish sap wastes his money on a Dal-a$$ Cowboys jersey (zing!), the Cincinnati Bengals make money. But you want more from them because they have more seats in their stadium, or the radio station had to up their bid for broadcasting rights because there was more than one bidder? Naw, that ain't right...

Yeah its kinda like all those people I see in D.C. with Deion,Bruce Smith , Bailey, Armstead, Trotter, Jeff George and Brad Johnson jerseys It just burns me up for all that money that was spent of those players that did nothing at all. But atleast the money went to Synder to pay bigger bonuses

lol, touche. But anyone who bought a Burgundy and Gold Deion Sanders (mercenary) or Jeff George (can throw it deep but miss the dump off) jersey deserved what they got. All the others on your list stayed for more than a year.

Proud owner of two Stephen Davis Skins jerseys, one Darrell Green, one Bruce Smith, one Champ Bailey and one Jesse Armstead (but I got that one free). I also have Ramsey, Arrington and Riggins...at least they can't get rid of Riggo.

Ahhh gambit, to be lumped together with the Cowboys! Darn you cruel world!!!!

Still you got to love owners that put everything back into their team. And Jerry Jones did have a lot of class coming to Jack Kent Cooke's funeral. For that, I salute you.

But still...

DARN you cruel world!!!!

Hey gambit, do us all a favor and just admit that you're a FREAKIN CLOSET SKINS FAN! Why else do you make these constant comparisons between the Skins and Boys? Why else do you post on these boards? And why else are you constantly trying to build some sort of comraderie between Skins fans and Boys fans?

Face it, you LOVE the Redskins!
