16. Washington Redskins (531 points): The Redskins face the 29th hardest schedule versus the run, but Clinton Portis will still remain a borderline first- or second-round selection. Where the offense could thrive is through the air; it faces the fifth easiest schedule versus the pass. That's terrific news for the likes of Santana Moss, Chris ey and sleeper candidate Jason Campbell.
As I stated at this time last year, the Skins will go the way the QB goes.
I said Brunnell was the key to our season and he definately had a major impact on how we started.
I was of the opinion that we should have started JC last year, take our lumps and be much better prepared for this comming season.
So now, JC has only 1/2 a season under his belt... and as far as I'm concerened the "jury's still out" on his ability to carry this team.
I suppose my concern lies with his passion for improvement... it appears a little suspect-- who know maybe I'm wrong. This season will be a make or break for JC... and once again I'll make the statement that it ALL RIDES ON JC'S SHOULDERS... viya con dios!

I disagree with two things here.
1. How is his passion for improvement suspect? He's already at Redskins park. He has said he wanted to work with the WR's on their own time to improve timing. ARE and Moss have stated they have time penciled down for JC to work with them....
What more can he do thus far? I'm very pleased with his apparent work ethic. I hope it pays off to encourage him to push it that much further.
2. I don't think this season will define his career. He's still growing as is the rest of the team.
Offensively, the skins go as our run goes. Period. More importantly the skins go as Clinton Portis goes. No offense to betts he's good and I'm please to have him as a changeup to Portis, but he doesn't bring up that eighth man like Portis does. That being said, bringing that 8th man up helps Moss get open. That helps Campbell throw deep and score points.
Look at the few years Portis has been here. In 2005 during our playoff run we started out strong because portis was running hard. Then midway through the schedule (the west coast trip) we got away from the run and got whipped by the Chargers and Raiders. We went back to the run the past 5 games and got ourselves into the playoffs.
Go to last year and portis was hurt the first few games and we struggled. He came back for a few games and got into a groove and we started winning. He goes out and we tank again. Betts racks up 1,000 yards but doesn't change the game like Portis does. Betts gets 1,000 yards. Portis earns his 1,000. I don't wanna turn this into a betts vs portis thread but clearly our offense is centered around Portis.
Over his three year tenure we all saw what kind of player Brunell was. But with portis's running he even turned Boonell into a good looking qb.
Throughout the course of football a lot has changed. But the thing that always holds true is a strong running game and a good defense wins games and gets you into the playoffs.

I also have to say that JCs passion isnt a problem. He has been putting in the work so far. He did pretty good for the first time he has ever stepped on the field. The guy hasnt even started a whole season yet. I really think this season will be a good one for JC. That favorable scheduele should help him thrive.

My instinct is that the run goes as the offensive line goes, and yes, the Skins go as the run goes.
Agreed, Portis is, and Larry Brown was, an extraordinary running back...partly because they both blocked and caught passes so well. Have to mention Brown if there is an excuse. Still, when the OL shreds a defense, the Redskinsn can have Riggins or Washington or Riogers or Bryant or Riggs or Byner or...<name one>
My thoughts are that JC should have started last year,I think he is putting in good work and has the desir to win and that is the type of QB we need. Record wise there was not many diffrence in JC from MB.Int/TD and games won, BUT JC has things i saw that opened my eyes, for example in the tampa game he broke tackles and still threw the ball 20-35 yards down field, the ablity to scramble quiker that MB. the down field game can go both ways cuse even though MB didn't do it much in 06 in 05 he was luanching it. to me i'm looking foward to this year and I am glad that JC is starting and MB is giving him veterans tip.
