Turkish people are real morons

Post by ATV »

It's official - The people of the United States are WAY more sophisticated than the people of Turkey.....

http://www.livescience.com/php/multimed ... 3A+Science

U-S-A! U-S-A-!

This was part of a recent study.....

http://www.livescience.com/humanbiology ... _rank.html

Other interesting note - in the past 20 years the percentage of U.S. adults who accept evolution declined from 45 to 40 percent. Hopefully these are our Dark Ages. Hopefully some day we'll be able to look back on these days and find some humor in them.

Those Turks! What a bunch of dummies.
I bet we would have done even better if we could have dropped Republican voters.

Sadly true. That's the problem in this country, we are caught between the Republicans who believe whatever the church tells them and the Democrats who believe whatever their political party tells them.

Nice chart. It certainly tells the truth. I mean, this is the greatest nation on the planet, and God created us that way!!

What, you think the U.S. came from a bunch of apes?? Those other countries are using evolution as a crutch to explain why they are not as blessed as the U.S.

Yes, this country is God's gift to humanity.

Actually, by the chart, Turkey is the greatest nation on the planet and God created it that way.

So ATV, I was reading the link about the poll. I'm a Six Sigma Blackbelt and an expert in data collection and surveys/polls. Do see an issue with the phrasing of the poll question? I would have rejected the phrasing of this question out of hand, do you see why?

I don't dispute the result, by the way, we have a lot of Christians who don't think God was clever enough to evolve humans or to speak figuratively in the bible rather then literally and must have created them as is. I'm just saying there is a major flaw in this one.

The poll question: “Human beings, as we know them, developed from earlier species of animals,” was true, false, or if they were unsure.

I'll give you three hints and a story:

1) If you want an accurate response to a poll, never use a word that people will have a reaction to. Do you see what word might bother people in this poll? When they see a word that bothers them, they are a lot more likely to say "No" even if that's not the best reflection of their views, they are really saying no to the word, not the question.

2) If you are taking a poll crossing languages, don't use a word that could have clearly different connotations in different languages.

3) One and Two are the same word. What word did they use that invalidated this poll? Again, I'm not arguing the results, I'm just arguing this poll.

And the story, I went to a seminar in the Netherlands at an institute that specializes in international polling/surveys. One question they had was:

- Your boss tells you to paint his house on a Friday. Over the weekend, you talk to your friends and they give you different advice. On Monday, he asks you to go do it. What do you say?

The most likely to say "No" were Canadians and Americans, no surprise. The most likely to say "Yes" were Koreans, no surprise either. The surprise was the hierarchical Japanese were in the middle. So they went back and asked the Japanese who said "No" to explain their answer. They said, "No, I would not have talked to my friends and shamed myself, I would have just painted the house."

So again, what is wrong with this poll?

OK, the problem is the use of the word "animal."

To Christians, people have souls. Animals don't. Many Christians believe in a process called "creative evolution" where rather then inventing man as is, God guided the evolution process. By asking if man evolved from animal as in my paint the house story, they were asking two questions instead of one, and the answer to both had to be yes to get a yes.

- Did man evolve?
- Is what man evolved from an animal?

So, many people said "No" or "not sure" not because they didn't believe in evolution but they were uncomfortable or against the use of the word "animal" implying man is or was an animal as opposed to having evolved to be man.

I am not arguing the word is wrong intellectually, what I am telling you that word would skew the poll and when you design surveys wanting true rather then projected answers as the left wing media constantly does, those are the things you agonize over.

And in the international part, the connotation of the word animal will change. If they had said "organism" in the US it would not have conveyed the soul issue. So this poll is flawed. And again I'm not saying the result is wrong, don't know.
