However, if I springs I would not start settling down anytime soon,
If Calvin Johnson drops to second in the draft the redskins will trade for him... Gibbs loves him and Snyder loves wide recievers...Detroit is not set for any player at second and could use two quality guys out of that pick...very possibly springs and then hopefully Brady at 6th and if not there are a variety of other possibilites
Why waste the pick?

While everyone and their mom has adressed the D-line as a problem for the Skins...The Skins have not seen this...why do i say that? we do not think one of the defensive lineman in the draft is worth a 6th pick..we have not brought in one defensive lineman during FA... I am not entirely sure that greg williams is not okay with his lineman Carter Griffin Golston Rotating Daniels/Wynn/Evans at LE.. I think we will prolly only add one guy to the rotation and Broshcetti will not have a job...

If this is the case, then I don't care who plays CB....we'll be in for another LOOOOOOONG season.

Daniels or Wynn won't be back, that leaves Carter,Grifffin, Golston, Evans, Mongomery, and maybe Salave'a. That's at least one player short and you can't tell me they aren't out there looking.
Who knows what they are looking at or who they are talking to
No one saw the Fabini signing and the Redskins never came up when people talked about Macklin. So one is actually running the front office this off-season

People talked about Macklin? I've never heard of the guy. But I only really follow the Skins and some Titans I must confess. Aug 11th I'll be there screaming.
Macklin is a great signing, I think Daniels and Wynn will both be back because Daniels was one of the key people who got the off season training schedule changed... or atleas the most vocal about it, wynn should be back because he was one of the captains last year and is considered one of the top locker room leaders..however he does carry a large cap and he is the mostly likely DE to be cut...I dont doubt that one Lineman will come in but i think thats about it...I dont know if that is good or bad...prolly bad...but on the fabini signing we were mentioned at looking for another veteran lineman... the skins brought in plenty of O lineman for official visits to the park but we still have not seen one FA DLineman in to Redskins Park... I just think that signifies we are not very interested...especially since the Skins have tried to rid themselves of the 6th pick like it was a plagued disease so far this off season

Macklin's a journeyman with multiple weaknesses and a career backup. He's ok, at best-- nothing to get excited about.

yeah i agree...a dime package corner doesnt do much to help the team...i mean in a game the only time we use the dime package is in an obvious passing situation which means our defense has held them to a long yardage situation and even an average defense shouldnt be given up 3rd and 10s or 3rd and 15s regardless of who the fourth corner is.
Sounds like a decent signing to me. Remember, a dime cornerback is one play away from being a nickel cornerback. And with Springs' recent history, that one play could come along at any time.
I don't see that he's anything more than solid depth, but even that makes our corner situation a lot better than last season. I've already forgotten the names of our back-up corners from last year!

If the Briggs trade doesn't go through then this offseason will have been a success in my opinion.
Exactly.
I also like the fact that Macklin had several more lucrative offers and chose to come here because he has family in the area and has always wanted to play for Gibbs.

I like this signing as well - no team has a "great" CB without a very good D line and LBs - very good CBs are made to look that way by the guys up front. We needed to add some depth at CB and this at least provides that.
I'm really sure that there is very little to NO chance that we are trading for Briggs unless the Bears want to give him to us as originally offered. Actually, I do not even want to make that trade as I think we can do better with the 6 pick than getting Briggs and the # 31 pick!
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Macklin, 28, began his career with the Indianapolis Colts after being selected out of Penn State in the third round of the 2000 draft. He spent the last three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals
Good signing, I agree. I don't know about the rest of you, folks, but I've been very very impressed with the Redskins thus far this off season! They know what they want/need and have made improvements in certain areas.
Unlike years past, they are not willing to give up a lot (a la "break the bank") to bring in a big money player. In years past, for example, I could see the Skins giving up #6 and Rocky McIntosh for Briggs and #31. Not this year folks. This year, the Skins are different.
All of their signings, including this one.....and their RESTRAINT have impressed me very much!

IMO the more time that passes the cheaper that guy from the Bears will be.
Ian Scott has yet to sign with anyone, he'd be a nice addition to the D-line
Then trade down.

Me too but it's going to take one brick at a time. None of these moves are foolproof but seemingly are doing what the successful teams do. With our talented coaches, we'll achieve success.
heres a thought---Gibbs met with Springs down in Arizona when the owners had there meeting..2 weeks later we sign a CB...Looks like Springs told JG "im not redoing my deal"..and gibbs said ok and signed macklin...Springs is a goner in my eyes...I think a trade up for CJ is extremley real at this point...LIONS never replaced Bly etc .. stay tuned

Hmm.... I didnt think about that. I have been thinking that Springs wouldnt be here next year just because of his salary but that makes alot more since. And with all the talk of Samuel . I sounds good

Who cares if he is a career backup? NEWS FLASH!!! He will be a backup here as well. Thats what we signed him for.
Taylor and Landry will take no Prisoners!! - I just can't bring myself to delete it!

1Nik, Since you referenced the Howard Bryant Post article I'm surprised that you weren't all over this. Note the last sentence of his 1st paragraph?

The Washington Redskins signed veteran cornerback David Macklin yesterday, adding depth to a cornerback position that was victimized last season. After trading safety Adam Archuleta and releasing cornerback Mike Rumph, Macklin is the first defensive back the Redskins have added this offseason.
Wonder what Howie was smoking when he wrote that. Wonder he considered our signing of Smootie was? Makes one wonder about his creditbility.
