I like this signing. Like what has already been said in this thread; he's a good depth player on the cheap.

If the Briggs trade doesn't go through then this offseason will have been a success in my opinion.

It could also be at 28 he figured playing for coaches like Gibbs/Williams for a year in a secondary with clear opportunity to play could lead to a nice payday next year, better then what he would have gotten now.

That's no insult, I like if he's thinking long term instead of short term dough.

Yes, but most players don't go for that and agents will typically try to steer them away from contracts like that. If Macklin gets hurt next year, he's screwed. Players usually want a multi-year deal for security. But something must have caught his fancy.

The former Cardinals' starter could upgrade Washington's dime defense.

This guy is an over achiever from Penn State who I wanted the Skins to draft as a rookie. What a great story that he loves the Skins and agreed to play for us for less. =D>

I heard Gaines Adams was a Skins fan too btw.

Guys, I have a theory here...

1) We have heard Gibbs say that moving up is apparently easier than moving down.

2) We've heard that the Lions were after Springs during the trade talks for Bly.

3) The Lions have yet to sign any replacements for Bly.

4) We have now added Smoot and Macklin.

5) We've heard that the entire staff showed up at the Georgia Tech pro-day.

I'm just sayin'...

Might you be suggesting that the Skins may want to trade Springs and our 6th pick to the Lions for their 2nd overall pick, so we can select Calvin Johnson?

This is a huge signing, why...because it signifies that The Skins will in no way target a defensive back in the first round of the draft and that we will not be trading for samuel or bly...

However, if I springs I would not start settling down anytime soon,

If Calvin Johnson drops to second in the draft the redskins will trade for him... Gibbs loves him and Snyder loves wide recievers...Detroit is not set for any player at second and could use two quality guys out of that pick...very possibly springs and then hopefully Brady at 6th and if not there are a variety of other possibilites
