Not that he'll be available at #6 but if he is, and people think we may be interested in him, it may be a ploy to get them to want to trade up with us.

Who knows.

He won't be available at #6 anyway.

I agree. This probably started out with someone talking about how we do things in the off-season and then it manifested itself into a story by the time it got to the 9th person.....

When you have the #6 pick you should be looking at every option and talking to everyone. You're not far from the top and almost anyone could fall 6 spots.

I think if we were NOT even meeting with him that would be incompetent.

Agreed, Kazoo. Many options that need to be evaluated, even the less than desirable ones.

This coaching staff has no shame when it comes to dealing with it's players.

To publicly say that you are sitting down with Russell says to me that they have no confidence in Campbell. Especially given the fact that this guy is one of the top QBs coming out and he had what some considered the best workout ever for a QB. Now if they had met with the #12 or #20th rated QB coming out, I wouldn't feel so bad because you would assume that they were looking at this kid as a back up for Campbell. But to sit down and talk to a QB coming out that has the potential to start for a team and did so well in his workout is a different story.

I understand that this is a business but at some point, when do you also realize that these guys are also human with feelings to.

So because people believe every drop of off season media hype, the coaches are shameless?

Did you ever consider that the Redskins are posturing and actually WENT to Campbell and said, 'hey... we're going to bring jaMarcus in for an interview. It's no slight on you Jason and it's really just draft posturing like you see from every team in every single off season."

It's called due dilligence... and most of you constantly complain that it ISN'T being done, so I'm not really sure how there's a 'winning' scenario here.

Hell I'd look at and interview EVERY single player ranked in the top 20-25 just to make sure that other teams couldn't get a firm grasp on what we were trying to do in the draft. That isn't shamelessly dealing with players, that's intelligently dealing with your franchise as a whole.

You NEVER know what's going to happen on Draft day, so it's always prudent to consider as many scenarios and as many prospects as you can possibly manage.

My 2 cents

Why? Do you think NE never talks to a top QB prospect just out of "respect" for Brady? Do you think Brady has a cow if they do? Shouldn't the Skins look at everything and Campbell just worry about doing his job? Why would Campbell worry about who the Skins "sit down with" anyway?

If the team were actually publicly offering the Raiders Campbell and the #6 pick for #1, then I could see your point. But saying the team with the #6 pick shouldn't even talk to a QB so they have some idea what they would want to do if he fell to them or a trade opportunity involving him came up? I just don't get that.

My 2 cents

Redskins meeting Russell, others
By Ryan O'Halloran
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
March 30, 2007

Vinny Cerrato, Washington Redskins vice president of football operations, confirmed an ESPN.com report yesterday that LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell will meet with the team's coaches and front office April 10.

But that doesn't mean the Redskins necessarily have an interest in picking Russell, considered by many experts as the NFL Draft's top prospect.

"We have 25 guys coming in to visit during the first three weeks of April," Cerrato said. "Whoever are considered the top players in this draft, you'll see all of them coming to visit. We have to cover our bases in case we trade up, trade back or stay."

The Redskins have the sixth pick overall in the draft, which is April 28-29.

Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn, Wisconsin offensive tackle Joe Thomas and Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson also are scheduled to visit Redskin Park even though those positions aren't areas of need.

"We want to talk to everybody just so we get a chance to know them," Cerrato said.

The Redskins, according to NFL.com, are traveling to Columbus, Ohio, to work out Ted Ginn Jr., on April 16 and bringing quarterback Jason Campbell along. Because of a leg injury, Ginn won't work out for teams until April 12.

Teams are limited to 15-minute interviews at the NFL Scouting Combine. During in-person visits to team facilities, players like Russell and Quinn go through extensive chalk talk sessions with the offensive coaching staff and have an on-field workout.

Two years ago, when the Redskins began their evaluation of Auburn product Campbell, the team's brain trust traveled to Alabama. Campbell said he had private workouts with five teams.

"I did a whole lot of throwing during those months [before the draft]," Campbell said earlier this month.

Quinn has visits scheduled with the Redskins, Cleveland and Tampa Bay. Miami officials will travel to Quinn's home for a workout.

Russell ran a 4.83-second 40-yard dash at LSU's Pro Day on March 14
and threw to former teammates Dwayne Bowe and Craig Davis.

Interviewing the top draft candidates may become moot in the coming days and weeks, though, as the Redskins wait to hear back from the Chicago Bears about linebacker Lance Briggs.

An NFL source said the Bears coaches and front office are scheduled to meet this weekend to decide whether to trade Briggs and the No. 31 pick overall to the Redskins for the sixth pick.

Man fears that which he doesn't understand. Don't read anything into it, we aren't drafting Russell, and Campbell knows that.

I do not remember exactly when, but recently a NFL team was not ready to select a player and missed their turn - I'm fairly sure this happened because they were not ready for the circumstance they found themselves in

Our FO guys and talent evaluators have not distinguished themselves recently and now because they seem to be doing the sort of diligent work we all expect of them we have some here criticizing and putting them down :?

After the draft - If anyone thinks this FO group did a bad a job or has concerns about what they have done - they have every right to go after them but until then WAKE UP or SHUT UP
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I think there may be serious interest in JRuss. Listen Gibbs loves QB's and he loves to have depth at QB, if he thinks JRuss is the goods he might pull the trigger and let JCam duke it out in training camp with the phenom from LSU.

Yeah. Gibbs may love QBs, but he loves VETERAN QBs. He is not willing to sit through another learning period. Plus investing that much of our salary cap in our QBs (Campbell, Brunell, and a #1 overall??) is just idiotic.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up, I assumed everything I typed becomes an irrevocable law of nature as soon as I hit enter. Fun fact: I never, ever, at any point, at all, anywhere, said my post was based in irrefutable fact, of course it's my opinion. My opinion is that the Redskins will not, under any circumstances, sign Russel.

Man, that's bizarre. You spelled preponderance correctly, but evidence incorrectly....

I assumed by
100% wrong, the Redskins will NOT draft Russel
you meant there was a 100% chance the redskins would not draft Russel, that is a false statement unless as I stated you are Snyder Cerrato or Gibbs, I don't think we'll draft him either but the fact is Joe Gibbs is not afraid to draft him if he thinks he is as special as say VY.

You should say 99.9% chance the Redskins will not draft Russel

No, because my opinion is such that there is zero chance of this happening, I am that confident in my opinion. I do not believe there is even the smallest inkling of possibility here. If it happens, you can say I was 100% wrong but I don't think you will have that chance.

Just by the title, it has to be one of the most far fetched forum's EVER. I'm trying to think of what would be dumber.

Maybe I'll start a forum called "Will alien consortium make bid to buy Redskins?" Think it'll go this many pages? I'd say no, but I'd have said no ever to trading for Russell.
