I'm speechless...really...i wouldn't be surprised if they did this...what i hate is that the report makes it seem like Danny and Cerrato are making the personel evals and just ask Gibbs persmission.
It's like two dumb teenagers who want to do something dumb, but have to run it by grandpa first..knowing that he'll say yes.

PHOENIX -- While a proposal has yet to be formalized, the Washington Redskins will make a trade offer to the Chicago Bears aimed at acquiring two-time Pro Bowl weakside linebacker Lance Briggs, agent Drew Rosenhaus and two league sources told ESPN.com late Monday night.
Lance Briggs
Briggs
Washington will propose a swap of first-round draft picks in this year's draft -- the Redskins own the sixth overall selection and Chicago has the 31st choice in the lottery -- in exchange for Briggs. The potential deal, which is expected to pick up steam on Tuesday morning as the annual NFL meetings continue here, would be contingent on the Redskins signing Briggs to a long-term contract.

I don't see how this would be a bad trade for the Skins, as it now reads. Even though the Bear's first rounder is near the very end that's still a high pick. The key, I think, would be how large of a contract Briggs would require. I don't think they should overspend (as usual). IMO, whether it is a smart move would come down to that.

As usual, the Redskins will end up doing something like this. If they do swap 1st round picks for Briggs, I, again, wouldn't be shocked to see them offering the 31st pick in the 1st round and other picks to try and move back up. This is the kind of stuff they do that frustrates everyone.
We'll see what happens...

Im not really sure. I dont think they would draft a DE that high and I really dont think they were going to keep the 6th pick anyways. There is some possibility they will trade down even more to get more picks or they could trade back up. Who knows . I still like the move.

A fan from another board - "hey who the heck needs draft picks?!?!! we've been rebuilding through free agency for 10 years!" -
If this goes down....
This crap is depressing.
If this trade goes down a few things will most likely happen.
1. Briggs will be over paid.
A. Lemar will be disgruntled.
B. McIntosh will be disgruntled.
C. Locker room issues.
2. We will only swap picks.
A. The bears need to get rid of Briggs and we don't need him so we should be pulling the strings. Our F/O couldn't negotiate with a toddler.
B. We will be on the short end of the stick.
IF this trade happens it proves that our franchise can't even find starters in the 2nd round of the draft. Not only is our Rocky not starting we gave up about 20 picks to get him.
So it comes down to this. We play the offseason well and pick up proven players who aren't overpriced....and we potentially did all of this to build up steam for such a retarded move.
Get your credit cards out for Danny and buy that new jeresey that you'll all whine about in 2 months when it's worthless because he switched numbers. The "smart" fans who wait till August to buy this new jersey should get about 2 years out of it before he becomes pissed off and forces another lopsided trade out of here so that you all can praise the F/O about how great they are at defusing these situations.
The sheer thought of this trade is disgusting but it'll make the sheep happy. It'll make them feel like we're "improving" and doing our best to win a trophy.
*Yes the sky is falling.
Please don't let this be true.

The road to the number 1 pick gaining speed!
I want to go on record as saying I like the idea. If we swap positions in the first round and pick up a pro bowl player early in his prime plus we get a late 1st round pick which could be used to pick ( possibly the best guard in the draft), I think that is a great move. We would parlay one pick into two starters, both should be upgrades.

Anthony Spencer, for one. He's almost as fast as Adams and had a spectacular year last year. Check the stats and appraisals. He could be one of the almost-hidden gems in the draft. If we did succeed in landing both him and Briggs. this would have to be considered a great move-- that is, until it fails. Anyway, I think it would be much more successful than the Randal-el and Lloyd move. Stats really didn't support that one.
Briggs made about 130 tackles last year on the weak side and that's incredible and Spencer was a demon last year-- he went on a tear that's still being talked about with awe.
I found this evualuation of Briggs.
Full Name: Lance Marell Briggs
Born: November 12, 1980
Sacramento, CA
Height: 6-1
Weight: 240 lbs. Age: 26
Pos: LB
Experience: 4 years
College: Arizona
Drafted: Year:2003 Round:3 Pick:4, Bears
The Bears used their franchise tag on Briggs in order to keep him in Chicago, where he is surrounded by exceptional players. Briggs is a fine playmaker in his own right and is reaching his prime. He is a fine player against the run and rushing the passer, but as a cover guy, there are few in Briggs' league. He has outstanding range, gets very deep in his drops, can cover running backs and tight ends man-to-man and also has fine ball skills and hands for the interception. He is tough, very durable and reliable. While he is a fine fit in the Tampa 2 scheme as a weakside linebacker, he has the skill set to excel in numerous schemes. As weakside linebackers go, Briggs has excellent size and a strong thick body. He has made more than 100 tackles in each of the past three seasons, including 134 in 2006. He is also good for a few takeaways every year. He plays the game in balance, rarely looks awkward and consistently maintains proper football position, keeping his numbers over his toes. His lateral agility and change of direction skills are very impressive and he is a natural knee bender and fluid athlete. He is light on his feet and technically and fundamentally sound. Briggs is an aggressive football player who works hard to make plays. He wants to win. He uses his hands very well, has natural pop and power and can get low and really jolt bigger blockers. He sheds very well. Briggs has improved every year since entering the NFL. He is a decent blitzer and times it well, but isn't a big sack guy and doesn't have a variety of different moves as a pass rusher. At times, he can be overly aggressive, but this problem has become more and more of a rarity. Finding true negatives with Briggs isn't easy to do.

Something else will have to happen there seems to be some Chicago draft picks or players are missing, unless they plan on paying the signing bonus for Briggs.

chemistry chemistry chemistry.. i swear no one in our organization short of the actual players understand how important that is to a team.. anytime a pro bowler or former pro bowler becomes available .. danny, joe, and vinny wet themselves with excitment and throw a bunch of money at em .. while briggs is a great player and im sure could help like many of you have already said all it will do is digruntle marshall , mcintosh and who knows who else.. if money and egos werent involved itd be a fantastic move because it would give us GREAT depth at linebacker but money and egos are involved and it will just divide the locker room .. thats why we dont win in my opnion ..chemistry you need to have it in the locker room to build a strong team

The idea we might do this makes me sick. Just sick.
How does Lance Briggs help our pass rush out? He's not a blitzer. We need help in that facet of defense in the worst way possible.
Worst pass rush in franchise history. That's just dismal.

Is there a problem with Washington's rehap
Why are looking at a WLB.
We may be looking at using more of a four linebacker set. Just a thought.

That would explain not a one free agent D-lineman showing up in Ashburn this off-season.

Maybe we will make him the highest paid LB in history and then have him share time. That sounds like a good plan.
HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!
