They got a 6th round pick for a guy that didn't fit.
They paid him $30M for 7 years, with $10m guaranteed with low base salaries in the first few years. Had he came in and did what everyone thought he would do we wouldn't have this thread. (we do have something to thank the man for).
Last year's performance was due to injuries to other players that forced him into a role that he wasn't brought in to play. He failed at that role and became the highest paid Personal protector in the history of football (any kind of football

).
At the end of year one he's pocketed a little of $5m....
What happens if they keep him now that PP and (maybe SS) will be back and healthy? Maybe they can use him like they originally planned, but that would cost them the additional $5M. Why because of the split bonus (this is the portion of the bonus that was held back for 1 year), the bonus was split "just in case" something like what happened happened.
Had he been paid the $10m upfront it would be no way to cut/trade him for at least another year or two and each year his cap # would grow. Then what happens if the team is hit with the injury bug again this year, do the put AA back in the game to play a position they know he is weak at?
Now that the Bears have agreed to pick up the 2nd half of the bonus and AA has reworked his deal, he became tradeable. Basically it turns out Arch $30m/7year deal as become a 4 year/$14m deal. Instead of being stuck with a guy for 2/3 more years that would be out of position whenever the team isn't at full strength, we freed up the spot for someone that would be better able to step in (Omar has already been signed) and a late round draft pick. More than anything he freed up cap space in the next two years that will benefit the team.
Believe it or not but this shows that the Redskins didn't just throw money at Adam but they gave him a lot to see what he had. It shows that the team had a plan
Speaking of plans: still have almost $8m under the cap, there is another big move out there waiting to happen
