Clayton just said look for a deal to be done with the bears and archuleta by tonight. Pretty exciting i wonder what we could get for him? Probably nothing good but unloading him would be great.

one of the next players expected to be traded is Washington's safety Adam Archuleta, who will most likely wind up in Chicago.

Archuleta is expected to be traded for a mid-round conditional pick that could improve for Washington depending on how well the safety performs. The trade would help the Redskins recoup a draft pick in an offseason when Washington would like to add as many as possible.

Adam Archuleta could be headed to Chicago where he'll be reunited with coach Lovie Smith.
Before Washington trades Archuleta, it is first trying to restructure the safety's contract so as to soften his salary-cap blow once he is dealt. Chicago is the natural landing spot for him primarily because of head coach Lovie Smith, who has coveted Archuleta ever since he took over as the Bears head coach in January 2004.

Smith was Archuleta's defensive coordinator in St. Louis, and believes he knows just how to deploy the versatile safety. It is the reason that Smith tried trading for Archuleta two seasons ago, then wanted to sign him last offseason before the Redskins swooped in with a monstrous record contract for Archuleta.

Smith believes he can help Archuleta return to being the defensive presence he was in St. Louis rather than the disappointment he was last season in Washington. Smith likely would plan to play Archuleta closer to the line of scrimmage, as a weapon against the run, rather than ask him to be a centerfielder against the pass.

That's good. I wasn't as anti-AA as many but I think after last year it would have been really difficult for him to turn it around in DC. He certainly had a bad year but Preileau going out really hurt him because we asked him to do things we didn't sign him for, the D struggled in general and the D particularly struggled over the middle and it wasn't just him.

I wasn't big on some of his off season comments either. On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being LaVar crying about a $5 mil bonus in a $60 mil contract two years later) his comments were only a 3 or 4, but if he had just said he had a bad year and felt he could do better I would have liked it better then the comments I heard, which seemed sort of devoid of his feeling he had any hand in his having had a very bad year.

I keep seeing this but if that was the case then why is he not on the top 10 list for salary at his position - actually, most of us know the answer - a player rarely plays for the contract as signed - salaries should never be judged for the length of the contract because that is just not the true "value" of a contract.

just a slight distortion to make it sound worse - we made a mistake in not utilizing his talents appropriately - it was not as big a mistake as it is always made out to be by these guys.

AA was not the only thing bad about our defense, hopefully the coaches will make the adjustments we need this off season.

The Washington Redskins have agreed to trade safety Adam Archuleta to the Chicago Bears for a conditional sixth-round draft pick. Archuleta restructured his contract to soften the salary-cap hit the Redskins will have to take this season, and now Washington will get back a draft pick for him. Bears coach Lovie Smith was Archuleta's defensive coordinator in St. Louis and has coveted the safety since he took over as Chicago's head coach in January 2004. He finally has gotten his man.
