Another update from Jason La Confora's blog regarding Wade...
Okay, now on to Todd Wade. His agent, Ken Kremer, emailed to say Todd has agreed to terms on a two-year deal, and will sign it today. I am guessing the numbers Schefter reported - $3.5 guaranteed and $6 million total - are probably right now, but have yet to hear them myself, so I can only go with what I know for now.
Look for the Skins to announce the Yoder deal by tomorrow, and probably announce Wade by Friday as well.

Right. Once you let a player get to the open free agency market without having him sign a tender offer, he immediately becomes an unrestricted free agent.

A big thumbs-up from me for this move. It's not a mega bucks contract, but it's enough money to make me think they want him to start at guard. Even if that isn't the case, I love the depth at tackle that this gives us.
Re-signing people like Fox, Yoder and Wade really helps with depth and continuity. This offseason has been really encouraging so far, in a refreshingly quiet way.

They didn't waive him, fine. That's quibbling over semantics. They had an opportunity to sign him as an RFA to a low tender, and chose not to. The moment they chose not to tender him, was the end of his Redskins career.
In essence, it's waiving a player, in all but name.
Wade said he will take over Dockery's starting spot at LG but could potentially move to RT.
I think the move to RT is wishful thinking on his part because he's comfortable at tackle. I just don't see Jansen switching positions just because he re-signed, though.

A surprise (at least a little), I guess the tackle money wasn't there form him like he hoped.
I wonder if the team's focus on continuity influenced him. Not that he wouldn't have left for the money he wanted if he got it, but since he didn't if staying in a consistent environment became more appealing at that point.

I don't want to be a party pooper, but are we right to assume that a player used to being a right tackle can simply switch to playing left guard, without missing a beat? I mean, we're suggesting switching from tackle to guard, AND from right to left.
I still love the signing, but I'm not ready to assume that Wade is the solution at left guard.

Good point and it's not nothing, but it is easier to go from tackle to guard and a good tackle can do it. Tackles have to cover more territory and the DE's have more room to manuver around them. Since guards are in the interior they need to cover less ground.
It's not uncommon for tackles to switch to guard later in their career for that reason. The best linemen want to be tackles because it pays better. Switching from guard to tackle happens sometimes but it is rarer and less likely to be successful. Often it's a mid season stop gap for injury and at the end of the year they go back and the team looks for a tackle.
