Battlestar Galactica

Post by skinsfan#33 »

For those of you who haven't seen the new Battlestar Galactica It is frakking incredible, it has become my favorite show on TV.

If you are thinking about the 1980's version, this has almost nothing in common with it. Yes, the main idea is the same "A rag tag band of humans running from cylons", but this is no campy, cheasing, planet of the week type SciFi show.

This is an extremely well done drama, that just happens to be set in space. Rolling Stones calls it the best show on TV. it has been nominated for 5 emmys and has won nine various awards. see link!

http://imdb.com/title/tt0407362/awards

It is in it's third season and started with a 2004 mini-series. If you are interested the new shows are on Scifi ch. Sunday at 10pm EST. and reruns of this season are on Saturday night (in glorious HD) on Universal HD. Also, you can get the min-series and previous seasons from Netlix.

I would like to know if anyone else has seen it and what you think!

My son liked it a lot when he was 10 years old but grew out of it a couple of years ago already ...

How old are you?

I'm sorry but I hate low budget sci-fi. It looks so 1998 that it makes me want to cut the TV off.

Actually I've never seen an episode but it's a critical favorite, I'm willing to check it out as soon as I have time.

39.

And I would never let a 10 year old watch the current BSG. Unless you let them watch stuff like the NYPD Blues, the Sparanos or CSI and I would say the new BSG is even less kid appropriate than either of those three. It is definately not a kids show. It is a very adult drama for people that were kids when the original show was on.

I can't watch it. It appears they have killed off all the "daggetts". Bastages.

Have you watched any of it? Watch an episode in HD. Directv doesn't get the SciFi channel in HD yet. I think only Universal HD has shows in HD. The mini-series was a little on the cheap side compared to the current episodes.

I didn't have much hope for it, but watched it for nostalgic reasons and got hooked.

It is the only show that I watch on the SciFi channel and is by far the best of shows like Heroes and Smallville (although I do like both of those). Smallville is a completely didn't type of genre, made for much younger viewers than BSG.

See that is exactly why I like it! There is no more of the hokey junk that was in the first show.

And I new that I would take some shots for posting this here, but I wanted to try to convince some of you to check it out, because once you do you'll be hooked.

I'm sure some of the people that have viewed this thread have seen the show and liked it, but didn't want to get the old "how old are you comment?", from someone who hasn't seen the show.

It was really good for the first year and a half. Then it degenerated into Starbuck is a slut (Starbuck's a girl now for those who haven't seen the new one) and Apollo is a suicidal loser soap opera who's lost all hope. Not why I watch sci-fi. It has been bouncing back though as it gets in the 3rd year.

Totally it has to be seen on HD. The third season that started last fall is running in HD already. I waited for that.

Are YOU one of those dagget murdering bastages? Lorne Green would have had you tossed through an air lock.

Can't get into it. Not enough cheesy, poorly done, star fields. Besides, what's with all the trouble they have finding Earth. Heck, even I know where Earth is. JUST LOOK DOWN, for crying out loud!

I like the show. The women are nice looking. The story lines are interesting. Edward James Olmos is a great Capt. Adama. It is one of my favorite shows on right now.

So say we all.

This version makes sense; the original version was a cheesy imitation of Star Wars with dumb plots. Cheesy would have been OK, considering the budget that TV shows had then. Star Trek Original had equally cheesy sets and unspecial effects, but it had wonderful plots. The old BSG made a viewer wonder how any people as stupid as these could have fought the yklons for more than five minutes, and then showed that the Cylons were so slow-moving and dull that a single Viper could wipe a hundred or two hundred Cylon attack ships.

I kept hoping that Lorne Greene and friends would get to the Alpha Quadrant, so Starfleet could annihillate the Cylons and finish the show.

Compare the frst episodes of BSG 1 and BSG 2: in BSG 1, the entire -- entire -- human fleet takes the President to a "peace" meeting with the Cylons. When they see that the Cylons have launched thousands of atttackers, the President refuses even to go to battle stations -- "it's a welcoming party" says the original bad-guy Baltar.

After the Cylons destroy the entire fleet, they bomb the human home worlds which, for some reason, have no defense systems. We had anti-aircraft missles in the '50s', and these guys have space travel, but no one has thought of inventing a ship-killing missle. Oh, for some photon torpedos!! Or phasers! Or shields!

Compare BSG 2.

This fracking sucks!!!

Half the main characters are cylons.

Still the best show on TV!
