The Arizona Cardinals fired first-year wide receivers coach Richie Anderson on Monday evening, just four days after he was arrested for allegedly soliciting an undercover Phoenix police officer who was posing as a prostitute as part of a sting operation.
Head coach Ken Whisenhunt announced the dismissal of Anderson, who was hired in late January, in a statement released by the team.
"I wanted a chance to review the details of the situation before making any decision," Whisenhunt said. "While it's disappointing, I've decided that this is clearly in the best interest of our team in this particular instance. Our focus now is on finding a replacement and I am confident we will be able to do that relatively soon."
Anderson, 35, was one of five men arrested last Thursday evening at the Pointe South Mountain Resort, the site of the sting operation. He was taken into custody without incident, police said, and held at the Fourth Avenue Jail for a short time before being released on bond.
Police have not released any further details of the incident.
Anderson played 13 seasons in the NFL as a fullback for the New York Jets (1993-2002) and the Dallas Cowboys (2003-05), appearing in 161 games. The former Penn State standout was one of the league's most accomplished receivers out of the backfield during his long NFL tenure.
He caught 400 passes for 3,149 yards and 14 touchdowns and carried 318 times for 1,274 yards and four touchdowns. He holds the Jets' franchise record for most receptions by a back with 305. Anderson was chosen for the 2000 Pro Bowl game.
In 2006, Anderson served as the Jets' assistant wide receivers and tight ends coach.

Technically, he didn't. However, he DID try to, ilegally...and failed.
Big ups to Whisenhunt!!
That makes it worse! LOL, he fails at life.
So one can infer from your comments that soliciting illegal prostitution is the way to live, eh, CLL?

Back and better than ever!

What do you mean big ups to Whisenhunt!?!??! I'll bet you that this wide recievers' coach of his put in a lot of hours at his new city/ new job. And just didn't have time to find a girlfriend in his new city and outside of his new job! So, when he FINALLY got a day off........he did what someone should do! And he gets fired for that?
Besides, its not like he hurt anyone or anything! He just wanted to "relax" on his day off! There is nothing wrong with that!

What I mean is, he could have thought just like you and Skins2dagrave do (as seen in your respective posts), but he thought better of it.
Whether solicitation of prostitution is right or wrong to either of you is really irrelevant. What's most important is that it would be a distraction to the team, and that's the last thing a NEW coach (or any for that matter) needs to be worried about.
He stood his ground, and is the better man for it. Too bad you can't say the same about Anderson.

How do we know it would have been a distraction? Being the WR coach, for all we know it could have been a player that directed him to the area where he got busted. That would be a distraction for that player now, wouldn't it? What he did was against the law and when you attempt to do it with a cop you'll come out on the short end most of the time. It happens and I can't think of anyone on the team they would be distracted because of it. How often are you distracted because someone else has a court date that at most will be plead down to a misdemeanor?

Stood what ground? Did he give everyone a speech or something saying this would happen or that would happen if caught with a lady of the night? If so then there might be a loop hole her, did he discuss getting caught by a lady of the night that really wasn't a lady of the night?
Which brings me to another question.
If prostitution is illegal and a person solicits from a non-prostitute (meaning he/she has NO chance of completing the deal), when was the law broken?

Are you kidding me? If your boss was arrested for solicitation of a prostitute, you mean to tell me that your production would not drop for at least a day or two? How do you think your co-workers would react? But then again, you probably have nerves off steel and the mental focus of a world-class curler.

Though perhaps not a speech, he did have to make a public announcement regarding the firing. Did he WANT to let go of his WR coach? Probably not. But, the team comes first, and he had to stand firm on that.

I think the charges are on "solicitation" and not "completion". A man knows he's breaking the law by doing it, so he shouldn't do it either way. I don't think the judge would show him any leniance, based on his chances of "completing the deal".

He thought better of it!?!??!?! So your saying that its better to go home and whack off to a movie or a magazine rather than getting laid!?!? Dude! If you weren't married.....I'd prove you wrong!

And I doubt prostitution would have been a distraction. ALOT of players get prostitutes! Did you hear the LT interview on 60 minutes? He said, that he would always buy prostitutes for the opposing team's best players, so they would be tired for the game the next day! The loveboat is another example!
Standing his ground!?!?!? I'm starting to think we just need to agree to disagree on this! I know some people can be a little 'touchy' on this issue and maybe we should just agree to disagree and let it go. I really don't want to offend you or anyone else.

Too late. The thought of you actively trying to "prove your point", on its own, is offensive enough.
