Whats up fellow Californian. I don't know much about the guy but I think the organization is trying to find someone who is going to be relatively cheap. There is so much money tied up in the offensive line that they have to make probably bring in a 2nd tier guy or a 1st tier guy coming off injury who will take a small contract with little pay to prove himself. Who knows.

After being a perennial Pro Bowl performer for the Buffalo Bills, Ruben Brown joined the Bears in 2004 and remains a dominant player at 35-years-old. A physical freak of nature this extremely athletic 300 pound left guard uses great technique to win most of the battles at the line of scrimmage. Brown does an excellent job of resetting his hands after his initial punch to maintain inside out position keeping leverage with a solid base allowing his athletic feet to fend off pass rushers. He uses good angles, hand placement and leverage to help him win when drive blocking larger or stronger opponents. Even with his declining abilities due to the wear and tear of 13 years in the trenches, Brown shows fluid transition skills going from a combination block on the line of scrimmage to engulfing a linebacker in space on the second level. He has been incredibly durable during his career having started 181 games and only missing 13 games in his 12 seasons. Brown will occasionally let his understanding of the game and experience show and he will cheat his technique playing too high with his hands outside when he is backside and the offensive play is going away. At his age, don?t look for a rush of activity from other NFL teams during free agency but do look for Chicago to resign him as the starting left guard while the Bears draft and develop young linemen to learn from this old pro in the twilight of his career.

Brown gained notoriety as the starting left guard for the Buffalo Bills. He was regarded by many as one of the best interior lineman in football. Brown was named to eight consecutive AFC Pro Bowl teams from 1996 to 2003, though in his final year he was deemed by many to have been selected based on reputation not merit.

In the final game of the 2003 season, the Bills sent Brown home, causing him to miss his first start since 1999. Brown was released by the Bills after the 2003 season, and signed with the Bears. In 2004 Brown started only nine games due to injuries. He Started 12 games in 2005 and all 16 last year

You mean like he shaped up Molinaro and Wilson? That is a 2-3 year project if it works at all. We need a starting guard right now. Brown could be a consideration if the money was right. Maybe a reasonable signing bounus and a 1 or 2 year cap friendly deal.
