Bryan Johnson To Be Traded?

Notes: The Redskins matched New Orleans' four-year, $4.3 million offer sheet to restricted free agent FB Bryan Johnson. Gibbs, however, said that Johnson's status had not been resolved, leaving the possibility open for a trade. Johnson has not attended the minicamp.

Man, this really stinks! I also read that he may be dealt by/on Tuesday because that's when his bonus is due. :evil:

This better not happen. I like Bryan a lot and he can be a very valuable part of this offense.

Jake, you know I love ya. I also know you know more about this team than I ever will. Having said that, there's a couple of things I want to address, if you can handle it coming from a nobody...old TCWEST.
Here's what's happening in the article you posted. Joe has taken Mr. Snyder aside and said, "This is my team. No more 'Bruce Smith going crying to the owner about playing time' garbage. The players need to know that I am the be-all and end-all with all things Redskins." This is why Snyder has no comment, along with the fact that the case has gone to arbitration.
Now, with Johnson...
Gibbs has always been big with people showing up at every camp that we have. It establishes community and continuity, and enables the staff to see who is good at what. Your fullback buddy wasn't there, so his status is "unresolved'. It doesn't mean "trade-bait". It means, "He's an well-enough known quantity that we felt strongly enough to retain his services, but he has yet to show at camp to prove that he was worth the interest we've shown in him."
That's all. No need to pull the fire alarm yet. They're tryin' to get him into camp.

TC, you've been around long enough to experience the good days, I was merely a 4-month old and a 5-year old. I think you have the upper hand when it comes to Skins knowledge ( and sense of humor :wink:

).

Bryan had a good reason for not being there on Friday becuase he felt he was going to be a Saint. His mind set may have been that it would have been odd if he was there and he still wasn't officially brought back or if the team decided not to match.

But there isn't a real good reason for him to not be there today.

I hope your right when you say that it is a ploy to get him back to camp but doesn't that seem to be a little extreme to you? If they want to get him back in camp, they should do it in a much more professional fashion.

And it would have been almost pointless to bring him back becuase we will still get almost nothing for a quality fullback.

Here's why he's not here.

Fullback Bryan Johnson won't participate in the minicamp because his contract won't be finalized until Monday, according to a source familiar with the situation.

If we could get a draft pick from someone we should trade him immediately. We need picks and Rock is more than capable of being the H-Back that Gibbs uses.

Well, if Gibbs didn't match BJ's offer he would have walked for nothing. By signing him we can trade for compensation. Also his cap number for this year is supposed to be really high and that might be another cause for a trade.

Look, Cartwright had a great season last year as a halfback, but that doesn't mean that he can be a good H-back. Gibbs brought Johnson back here to play that position, not to trade him...

I'm glad the Skin's matched BJ's offer because I've thought all along that He would be a good H-back. I love Rock, but He may not be big enough to play H-back every down. If you look at the guys who played that position for Gibbs His 1st time around, Didier, Orr, Warren etc. they all went 235 or 240 lbs.
I think there is a spot on this team for Rock besides special teams. Short yardage FB or TB is in Gibbs offense and is a valuable person that Gibbs Loves, Reggie Branch comes to mind from the old days.

Cartwright as H-back? I think he'll be too short. Isn't he about 5-7? The ideal guy was Didier, who was about 6-5...the system often calls for the H-back to go into harms way, and rise up above defenders to make a catch.

Cartwright seems to have the toughness, but not the height. My guess, which counts for nothing, is that he might be the short-yardage RB.

Johnson is about 6-1, but he has some bulk. If the films show he has the hands, maybe they want to get him in for the next camp, and look for the Redskin inside him, and the H-back.

Hey Guys, Johnson will probably be gone today in a trade to da Bears. We will be receiving a 6th round pick as compensation. That is why we mathed the saints lucrative offer, to receive some comp. We happen to be stocked in fb/te position so he can afford to let him go. :twisted:
