Kris Dielman?
Do we make a move for this guy?
Very solid guard who played for the Chargers the last few seasons. He just turned 26 last month. I would consider him an upgrade over Dockery, but I'm sure we'd have to break the bank to get him.
What are the chances of this happening for us?

Sure it'd be nice to sign every good player because we have the money, but this isn't the MLB guys, there's a salary cap.
I already included in my post that we'd have to break the bank to get him, but let's face it this wouldn't be the first time that the Skins pulled big money from seemingly nowhere to sign a FA.
It's not like I'm saying we should go after every good player. This is a young, very good player, at a position that we suddenly have a hole at.

But I'm saying, he's going to cost a lot of money.
I mean, if Dock got 49 Million, then Dielman who is only 26 is going to get just as much, if not more.
We just don't have the cap space for that.

His deal will break down to be about $4-$5.5 million a year the first couple of years, so it's doable. There are other guys that won't cost as much that are out there.

Most of the FA-ranking boards placed KD as the top OL. I saw one at ESPN (drawn up by your hero and mine, Len Fattensmelly, who placed him at #4 overall.
He's likely to go someplace where he'd be the biggest acquisition made for that team in FA...and it would be hard to imagine that we'd have the money to spend on the O-Line without having fully dealt with the defense.
The same credit we give Buges for turning guards into tackles, we can hopefully give him for putting a lesser-known guy in there to fill in.
I miss Dock already. I know I called him a saloon door more than once, but he was our saloon door. You know what I mean?

If we were ready to offer 30+ mil to Dockery before he left then I would imagine there is at least a possibility to get Dielman. Seattle has more cap space but they are also looking at Kerney and Graham, both of which will be expensive. Plus they have a 1st round quailying tender to Locklear. I imagine Locklear is going to want a new deal to stay there if no team offers up a 1st rounder. So let's not give up on Dielman yet. He would be a definite improvement over Dockery, IMO.

Wade is a right tackle with NO experience at guard. So it is not an assumption that we non-coaches can make.
He is an average athlete though and isn't a very good knee-bender, which is an especially large problem with his great height and resulting high pad level. He isn't real nimble and is slow to redirect and recover when beaten. Because of this, speed rushers on the edge can really give him a hard time. He is not an explosive or overly powerful player. His consistency is an issue and he hasn't been reliable play after play for some time now. It is difficult to say what to expect from Wade at this point of his career, but a team will certainly give him a shot at right tackle.

He only played when JJ couldn't go.

Thomas played in and started every game last year and has only missed 6 games in 8 years. Dock played every game last year also.

Chargers re-signed G Kris Dielman to a six-year contract.
An unexpected development; most believed San Diego wouldn't be able to keep its mauling guard without loads of cap space, so it's likely Dielman took substantially less money than he could've had on the open market. LaDainian Tomlinson (and Michael Turner) are certainly happy. Mar. 3 - 1:38 pm et

DIELMAN DETAILS
Scout.com reports that Chargers offensive lineman Kris Dielman will be paid $40 million over six years, with $18 million in guaranteed money.
Dielman will earn $24 million over the first three years of the contract.
We heard that Dielman's agent was claiming during the combine that he had a $7 million-per-year deal in hand. We later heard that the agent was inviting teams to get into the bidding at $7 million per year.
The final deal -- averaging $6.67 million (if those numbers are accurate) -- shows that the goal wasn't reached.
We're hearing that the real number is $39 million, which works out to an average of $6.5 million per year.
Not that it's a bad deal, but it's not what either "The Skipper" Steinbach or Derrick Dockery got on Friday.

This is precisely the kind of player I would like to have with us.
Loyalty works both ways:
The player towards the team and the team towards the player. I hope that the Chargers reward him for being a true team player next season.

Exactly, I dont' understand why some Skins fans only put the blame on the Skins front office when deals don't get done. None of these guys are going to go hungry, life is more enjoyable working and playing with people you like and loyalty leads to off field money like endorsements when the fans like you and you're not just a journeyman always seeking only the highest dollars in the contract.
The players have the right to do that, but again my point is the Skins fans who only put the bug on our management.
Hail to the Redskins!

While he was never on our radar screen, it is interesting that he -resigned with the Bolts instead of going somewhere else with all the money that's being thrown around. It's nice to see that someone has feelings of loyalty to their ream instead of just chasing the almighty dollar. Maybe there's still hope for the world.
