In light of the slow days of football i thought a funny post to see how creative you guys are in comming up with names and logos. if the Washington Redskins had to chage there name and logos and no longer be named the Redskins, what do you think they should be named?
I came up with the Washington Warriors that way they can keep the indian look.
Every offseason, this comes up. I hope the team never changes the name and logo. It wouldn't be the same.
I'd almost equate it to the Colts leaving Baltimore and the Browns leaving Cleveland. It would be treachery on the same level as abandonment, to me.
"Sit back and watch the Redskins.
SOMETHING MAGICAL IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!"

I completely agree. It'd be like asking me to root for a new franchise.
I don't even want to think about it.

i would much rather keep the Redskins name and put a redskin potato on the helmet than keep the indian and switch to another name. my team is the redskins, period. if they had another name, they wouldn't be the same team anymore.
Sounds crazy, but if the pressure ever got to great on the Redskins organization....that Idea of using a potato as our symbol is not bad. For me at least the name is more important than the symbol.
If we used the potato logo, could we call ourselves the Stud Spuds? or how about the Red Eyes? or The Eyes Have It? or maybe the Eye Catchers? hummm maybe even call ourselves the Red Skins?
It's not about the name anyway. It's about what it means. People try to make it mean all sorts of things to fit their personal feelings. In reality, the name Redskins was chosen for attributes of bravery, skill, leadership and the inate ability to survive. So it's a proud name not a slanderous one. Hail to the Redskins!
WOW I wrote this as a joke to have some fun and see what kind of names people could come up with but you guys took it to hard. I agree the name, logo, colors should stay the same i just thought you would get a kick out of it and take a break from the rumors.
these are just rumors and it wont happen but the name redskin is very racist. Some say it is equivalent to the n-word and can u imagine if there was a football team with that name. The uproar and lawsuits...
and to do the original poster some justice, here's some frivolous ideas for a name:
Washington Bravery (keep the same logo and colors)
Washington Soldiers (maybe switch to a red, white and blue uni)
Washington Americans (keep the same logo and colors)
and a name to cater to all the PC POLICE who don't have the priviledge of independent thought:
The Washington Lawsuits - change color to Green, the color of money, and rip out all of the regular seats so Fed EX field would just be a massive collection of Corporate boxes for all the beltway suits.
NY Jets fan lawyers could come down and see how Santana Moss makes L. Coles look like the bust he is.

The endless name debate has got to stop, if for no other reason than if we are FORCED to change our name and logo, it will (and rightfully so) open Pandora's Box. If someone if forced to change their own properties name or trademark, then that will set a precedent for others. ANY name or likeness could be construed as being offensive and inappropriate, take these other team names for example:
Notre Dame Fighting Irish: Well... Im 1/3 Irish and to me it is HIGHLY offensive that this name indicates that Irish people like to fight....
Oakland RAIDERS: the word raid means "to surprise Attack esp. by a Military force, or a sudden and Forcible Entry... Well that certainly has some negative conotations (see also Texas tech Red Raiders)
Tampa bay Buccaneers and Pittsburg Pirates: Well a pirate is "someone who commits Robbery on the high seas” so to insinuate that these teams are named after scoundrels and thieves that maraud and pillage is very disparaging.
Dallas Mavericks: well one definition of maverick is “a person who refuses to abide by the policies or views of a group. Well that would indicate that they are trouble makers and rabble rousers.... also a lot of negative innuendo and overtones of gambling.
New Jersey DEVILS : Not to much that needs explaining here... but any person of faith that believes in some type of higher being could take offense to this name.
New Orleans Saints: just the opposite... May not be offensive... unless you’re agnostic or an aethiest. I mean we can’t say the pledge of allegiance in school because of religion right?
Nashville Predators: one definition of predator is "one who selfishly exploits others". So that could be offensive to anybody... especially Arnold swartzenegger (spelling?) and Danny Glover!
Atlanta Thrashers: well a thrasher is technically a bird... however.... the word thrash means to "Strike, beat or vanquish violently” hmmmm..... Don’t know if I want to root for a team with such violent undertones.
Golden State Warriors: I for one am opposed to most wars and the term warrior could be construed as very bellicose and offensive.
Cleveland Cavaliers: Well they either mean that the team has a "nonchalant, carefree and cavalier attitude" or they are supporters of Charles I of England. All I know is I don’t like to be called lazy or happy go lucky non caring attitude... and as for the King of jolly old England any supporters of him were probably termed as traitors or benedict Arnolds to the Fledgling United States, which obviously is a very harsh and unkind classification. It’s pretty thin I know... but just saying.
Green bay Packers: Am I to believe that EVERYone in green bay is one who "packs and or processes food products"? That doesn’t leave much to aspire to if all I have to look forward to in life is to process meats and cheeses.....
Braves, Seminoles, Indians and the Gamecocks?!?: Not much needs to be said about the Native American names, and don’t even get me started on the gamecocks... but isn’t cock fighting illegal in the better part of the United States??? hmmmmm
Obviously most of these examples are pretty ridiculous but the point here is that EVERYthing CAN be offensive to SOMEone. Additionally, if the law comes in and says you can not name your own property what you choose, then to me that flies in the face of everything this country stands for in terms of free speech and the inalienable rights that are bestowed upon us. Lastly.. It’s not as if Dan Snyder is some racist bigot. He and all skins fans have clearly stated that this trademark and name eschew Pride, Bravery, and Nobility and not some derogatory slander. Many words have different conotations and meanings, and I actually have 2 Indian friends that are in no way offended by the term. Frankly... the only thing that is offensive is the play of our team over the last decade plus. Our country is just to "PC" right now. Suing McDonalds for coffee that is TO hot?!? Having a "Mail Person" instead of a Mail MAN?!? It’s seriously getting ridiculous! I think Sergeant Hulka of the classic move "Stripes" said it best.... "Lighten Up Francis!"
