Chargers Fire Schottenheimer

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

What if, because of all that talent the Chargers win the Super Bowl with Norv. This makes me think of the situation when the Phillies fired Terry Francona and he was hired by Boston and did not even make decisions, he let the computers and Theo make the big calls, he just sailed the ship. Oh, God I would hate to see that repeat itself in S.D. with that good for nothing franchise ruining coach.

the ONLY superbowl rings norval will EVER have will be as a coordinator. If norval wins the SB as a head coach, i'll give up on football altogether. :puke:

LEN PLAYS DIRTY ON TURNER HIRE

Okay, now that ESPN has opted to clear Michael Irvin off of the television side of the operation, we think it's high time for the boys in Bristol to turn a scrutinizing eye toward certain portions of its dot-com operation, which continues to (from time to time) claim credit for stories that it simply didn't break.

Regarding the report that the Chargers have hired Norv Turner, the news officially was broken by Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com. And we posted a story on the Glazer report well before ESPN.com had anything published on the issue.

But, lo and behold, ESPN.com now has an item in which Len Pasquarelli claims credit for reporting that Turner is getting the job.

And the underhandedness apparently isn't confined to the Internet side of the business. Says a member of PFT Planet: "At exactly 12:27 p.m. (I checked my watch), ESPN changed its ticker on the SportsCenter rerun to note the BREAKING NEWS reported by Len Pasquarelli that Norv was San Diego bound. My question is, did he learn it from FOX, from PFT citing FOX, or the ESPNNews ticker, which had the info in its news box for the prior half hour?"

When Dan Patrick politely chastised on his radio show those (including us) who posted the "Terry Bradshaw might be dead" rumors, he candidly admitted that ESPN is guilty at times of attempting to take credit for reports originating elsewhere, often by using the subtle code words "ESPN has confirmed" in order to get around the inconvenient reality that someone else had it first.

In this case, Pasquarelli doesn't even use the word "confirmed". He sells the thing as his own work product, even though it clearly is not. Here's the screen shot, in the event they do the right thing and change it.

PFT says Fat Lenny is a liar when he says he was the first on the web with the story.

THN had at least 8 hours before anyone else. What does that make PFT? :D

Everyone knows Lenny is a liar anyway, well sometimes he just flst out lies.

He sucks as a head coach, though. But not even he can screw up with the insane talent San Diego has stockpiled.
But he proved here and in Oakland that he's more than qualified to be the one thing A.J. Smith was looking for in his next head coach --

Unfrigginbelievable. Fire Schottenheimer after a 14-2 season and hire Norv Turner? Fire a proven coach for a proven underachiever? This is going to be BY FAR the dumbest personnel move any team makes this offseason. This is on par with the Herschel Walker trade.

How long will it take before the Chargers are 2-14? I say three years. I figure they will probably go 8-8 next season, 5-11 the season after that, and then 2-14.

If I were a Chargers fan I would be rioting.

The first five games of that season are the worst Redkins games I've seen in my life. I remember the end of that season as being just OK. Maybe it just seemed good in contrast to the beginning.

They are certainly missing something but I've got a feeling that they are missing Wade Phillips a lot more than Marty

Turner, IMO, is just another one of those guys that is a great co-ordinator but just does not seem to have what it takes to be a good head coach - he might have had a chance if he could have had Phillips to manage the D here but that was not an option as I recall because a number of the assistants were let go

A number of fans here at THN were pleased that Phillips went to the pukes and felt that Dallas/Jerry Jones made a mistake but I always maintained (and posted) that Phillips was going to make ttiT better.

Phillips is looking like he has the best team in the NFC and there are a number of people to blame for the Chargers demise - Turner will take the brunt of the criticism but he is not the real scapegoat here.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Did you hear the crowd chant "MARTY, MARTY, MARTY, ... " in San Diego yesterday during the 4th quarter?

EMBARRASSING, the GM should be fired. It was all a personality fights that led to letting Drew Brees and Marty go. Chargers defense is playing poorly but that team should be able to put 35 pints on the board every given Sunday!!!

How long before Norv gets fired? I say he makes it to the end of the (painful) season but no more.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!
