Let the debate commence!! (NY may cut 3 players)

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Supposedly Lavar is going to get cut from the Giants. The rumour supposedly originates from Pft.com....so take it with a grain of salt.

THAT BEING SAID!!! Let the RESIGN LAVAR DISCUSSION BEGIN. x infinity

After one season?!? Can they afford the cap hit for that? Won't it accelerate his signing bonus or something like that? I'd think they'd hold on to him a little longer, but I could be wrong.

I don't think he will have many takers. We may sign him for the vet minimum and he can play special teams. Oh, nevermind, you have to be able to tackle to do that #-o

If it is true, i can almost guarantee that he will end up in San Diego with Marty and probably ends up his career with pretty decent numbers playing alongside Merriman!

As for Petigout, would it be such a bad idea to get this guy as a backup at a low cost?

Reportedly, it's Arrington, Petitgout, and Carlos Emmons, not Chad Morton.

NFL.com wire reports

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (Feb. 12, 2007) -- The New York Giants released linebacker LaVar Arrington and two other starters in the first major shake-up under new general manager Jerry Reese.

New York also cut linebacker Carlos Emmons and offensive tackle Luke Petitgout, both of whom were slowed by injuries over the last two seasons.

The release of Arrington ended a brief and unsatisfying tenure with the Giants for the former Pro Bowler, who was signed last year to a seven-year deal but suffered an Achilles injury against Dallas on Oct. 23 and played in only six games.

"LaVar's situation is unfortunate because he was just starting to really become a factor in our defense at the time of his injury," Reese said.

Reese, who replaced the retired Ernie Accorsi, served notice that he will not stand pat with a team that won the NFC East in 2005 but was humiliated in a first-round playoff loss to Carolina, then scraped into the playoffs last season with an 8-8 record and again lost in the first round.

"These are difficult decisions," Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said. "But as Jerry and I looked at the roster, they are decisions we felt we had to make as we start to compose our team for the upcoming season."

Petitgout started 106 games at tackle and guard over eight seasons for the Giants. He broke his leg against Chicago on Nov. 12 and missed the Giants' final seven games.

Emmons, acquired from Philadelphia in 2004, played in 36 games in three seasons but missed a total of 11 games in the last two seasons with a pectoral injury.

It's really too bad, for LaVar that is. He had a legitimate opportunity to become a huge star in this league. But his attitude, endless injuries and choice of agents will ultimately be his demise.

Man, with LaVar Arrington, and Champ Bailey we had the best defensive back and one of the best linebackers in the league... but it all starts at the line... and without that, no other players on D can live to their full potential.

LaVar Arrington was good, but he could have been one of the best ever... what went wrong?

It really says alot about LaVar when the guy can't even stay with the Giants for one year. I can't stand LaVar for what he did to the Redskins. What goes around comes around. And LaVar is finally getting what he deserves.

Seek therapy. But I did chuckle when I saw this. Maybe if he had exited with class, i.e. not calling Snyder the 'devil' and speaking negatively in the media, then he could have come back ala Trotter with the E-gals...but his comments were over the top, and i don't think Gibbs would go for that.

Sends the wrong message to guys like Rocky McIntosh

A few things. First, no continuity at defco. He's said that it hurt him, and I tend to agree, having to learn a new system and new techniques every year.

But there's more to it than that. Imho I think he believed his ESPN highlights and honestly thought he had arrived. I think he stopped working to improve himself. He came to DC as kind of raw, running on instinct more than football smarts. He left DC still football "dumb".

Marty would love to have LaVar, I don't think it will do anything for LA's career though.

There is no 'Marty' to run to. My bet? You'll see LA roaming the sidelines and waving the Black and Gold Pom-Poms for
his beloved Steelers.

we dont NEED to have lavar back because of our present situation at olb (both rocky and marcus) BUT... i would not be against everyone getting together, clearing the air, and signing lavar to a vet minimum, incentive based contract. that way he will be motivated to get himself back to his former level in search of a big payday. THEN we can let him go to san diego and let him underachieve for marty... or we could just go with holdman and marshall.

LaVar has too much pride to come back now. It'd be akin to making a big speech to your parents, moving out of the only home you'd ever known in a huff...then showing up at their door a year later with your tail tucked between your legs, the real world having handed your butt to you.
No, no LaVar II for me. I saw enough while he was here. Let him be somebody else's "legend". I'm hoping he fades from our collective memory to the point where his name would be a real stumper in a trivia contest.

I think that's a good guess. I presume the only reason he didn't go there last year was because the Giants ponied up more money.

How would he help? He's already demonstrated that he 1) can't or won't play in the current scheme and 2) he can't stay healthy; he hasn't played a full season in three years and has missed more than half of the season two out of the past three years.
RIP Sean Taylor
