Its hard to expect this guy to play like a well oiled machine when he's been on the shelf for MONTHS. I doubt he got much practice time during the season either.

Just started? He's seen 2nd RB action since week 11 in Tampa, when Betts began as our starting back. Perhaps there was some rust there, but that doesn't explain everything.

Don't get me wrong: he's been good in his role for the last 5 weeks, but like I said he's been stuffed more than a couple of times on the kind of runs that everyone has wanted to see from him. I don't think he's the savior-sitting-on-the-bench that I'm seeing ascribed to him in this thread.

Answer me this: why is it that people call for Gibbs' head when he doesn't use Duckett ("Why is he not on the field?!"), but when Gibbs puts T. J. in the goal line situation (and we don't convert) we all hear "Man, why wasn't Betts on the field! No one could stop him, why take him off then?!"

It's amazing how it's so easy to second guess the team for making that trade. I truly believe the team/coaches were hearing from dr's (after the injury) that Clinton's shoulder needed surgery. They knew he wouldn't make the whole season and they (and us too) expected the SKins to be a good team -- a playoff team. They were hedging their bets by picking up TJ. If we had started out 4-1 and Clinton got hurt, none of us would be saying anything about the TJ trade as we would have used him to give Ladell rest. As is, Clinton didn't get put on IR until a few weeks back and we lost most of those games.

Sorry, not buying it. Portis has been out of the lineup for a few weeks and TJ still hasn't gotten very many carries. Gibbs and the front office totally blew it on this one. They panicked over Clinton's injury and prob didn't want the Eagles to get him either. Total waste of a draft pick.

Why would you play him much when Betts is running the way he is?
Taylor and Landry will take no Prisoners!! - I just can't bring myself to delete it!

Maybe he's one of those backs who takes a few carries to get warmed up. I remember seeing a study comparing the first ten carries of various elite backs vs. their subsequent carries, and a lot of them really didn't hit their stride until after they had a few carries. Duckett has never had more than 7 carries in a game, which doesn't give him time to get his rhythm. Also, every time he goes in, it's pretty clearly going to be a run between the tackles, and I've never believed a team should telegraph plays so obviously, unless they're clearly dominant.

well, before the season started i think gibbs thought portis would miss the first few weeks so the signed duckett as a backup. i think they did that in case betts didnt do very well, which they were wrong.
My two favorite teams.......
Redskins
whoever is playing Dallas (except for Philly or New York)

I never called for Gibbs head but I think it was dumb to not even ATTEMPT to use TJ early on. TJ wasn't even ACTIVATED. We were losing games left and right. We spent a 3RD round pick. We spent another "Cooley" for a game who couldn't even play.

The coaches can't win when it comes to the fans, its not fair.

Im not worried about his performance, Im just pissed at the waste of a pick.

Draft picks DO have great value, just because the Skins are very hit or miss with their scouting doesn't lessen the worth of the draft. Give that pick to Baltimore and watch them churn out another prowbowler.
The road to the number 1 pick gaining speed!
