McCune to the Dolphins?

This is coming from "Andyman", the notortious member of the Official Message Board of the Washington Redskins, who apparantly may or may not be a high-ranking official in the organization.

Take it for what it's worth but I personally believe it. Because based on his past, he is very reliable with inside scoop over there.

If McCune does get signed to the Dolphins from our practice squad, it will be a big blow to our depth at linebacker considering the porous tackling from our current linebacking corps... cough... Holdman... cough.

Our linebacking coprse needs an overhaul this offseason. For starters, Holdman has to go. He is one of the worst linebackers in the NFL. Marshall needs to be moved back to the outside where he belongs and we need to find ourselves a MLB. Marshall just isn't cut out for that position and has struggled bigtime this season.

Ckeck this out, I read it this morning and was like "WTF!";

But there are a few things they could, and should, do in the final three games:
» Play Rocky more: Linebacker Rocky McIntosh finally played a little in Sunday’s loss to the Eagles. Coaches say he does not yet know the system, which doesn’t bode well. But his development plays a role in the franchise’s future. He doesn’t need to completely bump Warrick Holdman from the lineup, but playing him more would speed his development.

Good news, IMO.

Yeah losing Robert McCune would be a huge loss. :roll:

How many games has he played this year with our porous defense?

The guy hasn't showed that he can play here (in two years)... I'm not really sure why it would be a loss. He's on the practice squad for a reason. My 2 cents

Thats what we get...we draft players who never play for us. Its funny how our coaches are the ones who make personell decisions and evaluate players in the offseason..then it seems like the players they pick can't get the job done.

Doesn't that say..."we don't know what we're looking at". You should know what a guy can do before drafting him...that goes for Rocky, Robert and all the guys. I hope McCune goes there and does well...then it will add to the evidence that we need a GM IMO.

Cerrato is the biggest cut we need to make in this offseason.

While I agree with most of what you are writing, it still understates the lottery that is the draft. Evaluating talent is still rolling dice to a large degree, even for professionals. Otherwise, Clinton Portis wouldn't have been the 52nd pick overall, and Ryan Leaf wouldn't have been number 2 overall.

I've been told that A LOT of teams hire companies to scout a lot of their players. I dont know if it includes the skins but I wouldn't be shocked. Baltimore is one of the very few that has people from within the organization scout every single prospect. Whatever Baltimore is doing, we need to do.

No we will find someone who is past their prime and overpay them. I think their first choice is Lawrence Taylor. If Taylor is unavailble maybe Chuck Bedarick? I heard he can hit so maybe he would be a good fit.

A change needs to be made, our scouting dept is substandard imo.

Who have been our recent picks that have worked out?

Taylor - An easy no brainer pick.
Cool

ey - A gem but I've heard rumblings that he wasn't as far under the radar as I may think.
Carlos - We were considering M. Williams (who i wanted and his been a bust), out of the 2 we made the best choice. Los had a good rookie year and a bumpy sophmore outing.
JC - Although not has glamorous as other QB's during that round, he was a popular candidate.
Golston - IMO the ONLY true late round gem in recent years.

Am I missing anyone? We need more Golstons. He's a prime example of how good scouting can pay off. If other teams can consistently draft good depth why can't we?

I'm reading Feinstein's Next Man Up, and comparing that organization to the Skins, it sickens me. I don't like the Ravens at all, but their organization runs very, very well.

Been meaning to get to that book. Just an example of their success with personnel, starting ILB Bart Scott (65 tackles, 24 assists, 8.5 sacks) was undrafted!! Why can't we do that?!?!

December 12, 2006-The Miami Dolphins today placed quarterback Daunte Culpepper on injured reserve. Also on Tuesday, the team signed linebacker Robert McCune off Washington’s practice squad and waived linebacker Keith Newman.

“Even though Daunte was making good progress in his rehabilitation, we both felt, along with our medical staff, that it would be very difficult for him to be ready to play in the next three weeks,” said Dolphins Head Coach Nick Saban. “Because it’s important to have depth at the quarterback position the rest of the season, we all felt the best decision for the team was to place him on I/R.”

McCune, 27, was a fifth-round draft choice of the Redskins in 2005. He spent the first part of his rookie season on the team’s practice squad before being activated to the 53-man roster on November 5. He played in a reserve role in five games for the Redskins last year. He was released by Washington prior to the 2006 regular season and was subsequently signed to the practice squad.

McCune was a four-year letterman at Louisville (2001-04) where he started his final two years. As a senior in 2004, he was a first-team All-Conference USA selection when he posted a team-high 115 tackles, including two sacks and an interception. Born March 9, 1979, McCune attended LeFlore High School in Mobile, Ala.

I'm with BH -- if McCune isn't good enough at 26-27 years old to make our roster, he isn't a loss. If he's a loss, we're in bigger trouble than I thought.

We need a real MLB --either through FA or draft (we'd have to trade our very high first rounder down to pick up another draft pick). My guess is FA as GW doesn't like rookies to play. We need someone who can play day 1 next year.

I had high hopes based on how he looks but I don't believe he's smart enough to pick up the job of running our defense - which is what GW expects from our MLB. It seems that GW wants a smart guy at MLB more than a super duper athlete. Marshall is just too small to handle the lineman that seem to take him out of the play every-single-time.

Yes, but we need the picks in order to roll the dice. There will be some misses, but the hits are how you build a team. The way we do it we make it tougher because we limit ourselves to very few 1st day picks between rounds 2 and 5....you can find very high quality players there...but we use those picks as trade bait.

Golston is a perfect example of what this team could become.

1. He was drafted late.
2. He came extremely cheap.
3. He's working his way up the latter and growing a bond with the vets.
4. He had a bigger impact on the season than Carter, imo.

Our drafts are so hit and miss because of the lack of attention spent on it. I dont live at Redskins park but its obvious through the results of our drafts and the lack of packs that no emphasis is placed on it. If they'd try a bit harder, we could have 1 star player early in the draft and maybe 2-3 Golstons added in the later rounds...
