Blair unveils plans for nuclear arsenal

Post by dnpmakkah »

Prime Minister Tony Blair laid out plans Monday for a new multibillion-dollar submarine-based nuclear arsenal, warning lawmakers the future may hold perilous threats from rogue regimes and state-sponsored terrorists.

Blair told the House of Commons that despite the end of the Cold War, potential threats were posed by North Korea, Iran and others.

Interesting bit of news here. So while a nation like Britain wants to deter other nations such as North Korea and Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons they are in discussion of increasing theirs. Very interesting news.

Of course, the minute that the UK decides to unilaterally disarm, the likes of North Korea and Iran will go back to a peace loving existence, spreading love and joy throughout the world.

Rrrrrrrrrrrrrright!. This will only cause a negative reaction by the rest of the world and once again increase an arms race instead of working to stop it.

And by stopping it I don't mean "you get rid of yours, we keep ours". I mean "we all get rid of it". Damn shame...people will continue to accept this an make excuses for it.

Just an FYI I wasn't calling you an idiot. Those who support the British nuclear arms expanison yet deny other nations the same right are idiots and hypocrites. But I'll change my post a bit so you don't think it was directed at you.

Oh, I just chose to be offended on this occasion. I'm trying to get in touch with my feminine side, and it occasionally manifests itself in strange ways.

I don't think that reducing the number of nuclear submarines and warheads (which is what is proposed) can be considered an expansion though. I too would love to live in a world where nuclear weapons don't exist, and of course there is hypocrisy in the current position of the established nuclear powers. But the genie is out of the bottle, and I have no idea how we put it back.

If the nuclear powers (U.S., Britian, China, Russia, France, India, Pakistan, North Korea, and Israel) get rid of their nuclear weapons ENTIRELY then these nations have a greater right to demand others not to build them (i.e. Iran etc...). But right now they lose credibility with the world when they look like hypcrites.

However, for example if the world trashed their stockpile then a country like Iran goes against the curve an builds nuclear weapons then I see no reason to disagree with America if they wanted to wage war against them for do so. The way it is right now I just can not accept that sort of injustice and hypocrisy.
